DO NOT CHAIN YOUR PETS IN A STORM ... AND OTHER TIPS.

I got the below tips online. If you have any other tips, leave them in the comments.

From PETA:

"In a press release, PETA said many pet owners often do chain up their dogs or leave them behind when there's a natural disaster. The organization added that its Animal Rescue Team has "witnessed firsthand the trauma that animals endure when left behind to face the floodwaters and flying debris caused by hurricanes."
PETA said that during previous storms, they have found dogs dead or up to their necks in water inside of almost-submerged crates in houses. The organization added it has also seen animals who have been flung around in high winds and says they are "petrified" in these kinds of weather conditions."

From Reddit:

"What to Do With Pets During a Storm:
Bring your pets inside immediately.

Have newspapers on hand for sanitary purposes. Feed the animals moist or canned food so they will need less water to drink.

Animals have instincts about severe weather changes and will often isolate themselves if they are afraid. Bringing them inside early can stop them from running away. Do not leave a pet outside or tied up during a storm.

Do not leave a cat alone or in direct contact with a dog, even if they normally get along. The anxiety of an emergency situation can cause pets to act irrationally. Confine small pets away from cats and dogs.

In an emergency, you may have to take your birds with you. Talk with your veterinarian or local pet store about special food dispensers that regulate the amount of food a bird is given. Make sure that the bird is caged and the cage is covered by a thin cloth or sheet to provide security and filtered light.

What to Do With Pets After a Storm:

If after a disaster you have to leave town, take your pets with you. Pets are unlikely to survive on their own.

In the first few days after the disaster, leash your pets when they go outside. Always maintain close contact. Familiar scents and landmarks may be altered and your pet may become confused and lost. Also, snakes and other dangerous animals may be brought into the area with flood areas. Downed power lines are a hazard.

The behavior of your pets may change after an emergency. Normally quiet and friendly pets may become aggressive or defensive. Watch animals closely. Leash dogs and place them in a fenced yard with access to shelter and water.

If You Have Large Animals:

Ensure all animals have some form of identification.

Evacuate animals whenever possible. Map out primary and secondary routes in advance.

Make available vehicles and trailers needed for transporting and supporting each type of animal. Also make available experienced handlers and drivers. Note: It is best to allow animals a chance to become accustomed to vehicular travel so they are less frightened and easier to move.

Ensure destinations have food, water, veterinary care and handling equipment.

If evacuation is not possible, animal owners must decide whether to move large animals to shelter or turn them outside."

I do not want to be remembered as a woman who was always exhausted. I do not want to be remembered as a woman who was always stressed, always busy, always rushing, always holding herself together and pushing through.

I would like to be remembered as a relaxed woman, a compassionate woman, a curious, joyful, pleasure-loving woman. A woman who works hard and rests deeply, who loves fiercely and lives peacefully.

A woman who knows her worth and her power, who accepts her imperfections and her vulnerabilities, who embraces her limitations and her possibilities.

A woman who laughs and cries and aches and loves and is enchanted by the mess and magic and mundaneness of this beautiful, shimmering life.

Please share! Posting for a friend.

10 months old female heeler mix. Housebroken, crate trained, great with kids, dogs, cats. Up to date on shots , wormings and already spayed. Wonderful temperament. Needs a foster or a re-home ASAP. THIS IS URGENT!!

Owner was forced from her home and is facing some major life upsets very unexpectedly. She is in a place where at this second she cannot have her and doesn't want her on the street or in a kill shelter because the pup did nothing to deserve this.

For my birthday today I would love to get enough people to send any money to my cash app or make a donation in my name to a local animal shelter or rescue. I want to take any money I get today and donate it to a local shelter here.
Shelters and rescues run on donations and unfortunately right now there just isn't a lot of donations going in. Add to that overcrowding, the need for food, toys, blankets, cots and everything goes up. I want to help make a very stressful situation better for dogs if I can for my birthday.
Please consider it. Thanks

Taken from another page…… and I agree.

Did you know there is a definite difference between a male and female? There truly is!

 Male vs. Female

Does a male or a female make a better pet for you and your family?

It’s not uncommon for people to believe that a female dog will make a better pet. We get a lot of calls for people wanting that “special little girl”. For whatever reason they don’t think that females will exhibit “alpha” behaviors like hu***ng and/or marking. A lot of people think that females are more passive and friendly and that they don’t take part in fighting over dominance, which could NOT be farther from the truth. If you check out the structure of dog packs, the females determine the pecking order and rule the roost. The result of that behavior is that the females become more stubborn, independent, and territorial than the males. These females are much more intent on exercising their control by participating in that “alpha” behavior like hu***ng. Most fighting will usually break out between two females.

Males tend to be more affectionate, exuberant, attentive, and even more demanding of attention. The males are very attached to their owners, tending to be more dedicated, reliable and less temperamental. They are more sociable, more accepting of other pets, playful for years, and take quicker to children. Most boys are easily motivated by treats/food, words of praise and are so eager to please that training actually becomes easier. Their playful nature, however, can make males more easily distracted. The boys are more likely to act silly and more puppy-like, always wanting to play games, no matter what their age. The boys are fun-loving until the day they die, whereas girls tend to be more standoffish and dignified the older they get.

Neutered males rarely exhibit secondary sexual behavior such as marking and lifting their legs or hu***ng. Once the testosterone levels recede after neutering, most of these behaviors will disappear if they ever existed.

So before making your decision on that age old dilemma of male verses female, hopefully this will give you some helpful info to think about.
