KARE has been working with the County on the new Pacific Building Co Shelter in Port Orchard Community. This facility enables guests to shelter with their pets. We occasionally have prospective residents who need to have some temporary fosters for their animals before they can move in with them. We are currently needing fosters for two separate people's dogs. Both are very friendly and good with dogs and people. Please contact [email protected] for more information.

Kitsap Animal Rescue & Education (KARE) has been rescuing abandoned or neglected dogs and providing animal welfare education to the community for more than 15 years. With our dedicated team of foster families, KARE rescues pets from dire situations and provides the support and guidance needed to transition into their forever homes. With our certified training team, KARE strives to provide free or low-cost training opportunities revolving around animal behavior education, in an effort to reduce the number of relinquished pets. After 20 years of dreaming, planning, and saving, and with a lot of help from the Kitsap Great Give, we were able to finally open our KARE Training and Activity Center in 2018. This facility serves as a centrally-located “headquarters” for our team, improving our organization’s day-to-day operations, as well as provide a safe space for those who are struggling with behavioral issues caused by environmental stressors.
Your donations allow us to continue our life-saving work with at-risk dogs and to help keep them in their forever homes. Our rescues are cared for by a volunteer-powered foster family system. Our priority is always with the rescues, and we strive to give them the best start to their new life. Your donations empower us to remove abandoned or neglected animals from dire situations, transport, rehabilitate, provide tools and resources like food and medical, and place in the most loving and appropriately-matched forever home.
