EMERGENCY EYE REMOVAL!
We were called upon to intake an emergency pup with no time to prepare or fundraise. A gut-wrenching, desperate call arrived about a 4-month-old puppy in critical need of immediate surgery. His eye had been in a dire state for the past 2 months, and by the time we were contacted, his eye was so pressurized it was on the verge of exploding.

A compassionate Good Samaritan rescued him from a breeder who intended to abandon him at the pound due to his eye injury. Despite the Good Samaritan’s dedicated efforts and multiple vet visits, including prescriptions for antibiotics and eye drops, there was no relief for this poor little guy.

In response to this urgent situation, we immediately dropped everything we had scheduled and rushed to get him into our vet’s office for emergency surgery. His life and well-being depended on it.

We urgently need your help to cover the cost of this critical eye removal surgery. Your generous support will be vital to his recovery and well-being.

Vet visit for seniors, Caleb & Malkey 💙💙

Shoutout to our volunteer (and 2 time adopter) Susie! She took time out of her day to volunteer and transport this 3 1/2 legged cutie to our vets.
MEET MUDGE! His little nub was cleaned, checked and wrapped and he got all of his vaccines and f***l testing done. Doctor confirmed he should be full grown at his current size. He’s a young adult, between 9mos to 1.5 years of age. Weighing in at only 13 pounds (a little on the thin side right now so would likely be 16-17 lbs full grown at proper healthy body weight). Sadly his body score condition was extremely low during yesterday’s exam / appointment. So we’re working hard to change that to give this deserving dog the opportunity at an incredible new life! He’s being fostered by Jenny who so kindly opened her home so we could say “yes” to taking Mudge the tripod into her home.

SPAY DAY for Bally! Her foster family was so kind to get her to her vet appointment today and will be caring for her during her recovery process.
She will have cherry eye surgery to follow at a separate vet and then will be formally available for adoption.
Now that’s she’s spayed, we’re accepting applications for this sweet Frenchton (suspected French Bulldog / Boston Terrier Mix). She’s great with the kids. Have learned the doggy door and loves to snuggle!
(Bally is a pound survivor from LAAS, Chatsworth Shelter)

Blueberry went to the vets today — she had been on prednisone and medications to open up her ear canal that was totally shut when we rescued her. Once her inflammation went down, we scheduled a deep ear cleaning. Today, during her ear exam and deep cleaning, the vet found a lodged foxtail. Poor Blueberry had to be in so much pain! She has her cherry eye removal surgery scheduled on 8/15/24 and will have a mass removed from her tummy at the same time, along with another deep ear cleaning. Then, we will wait for her skin condition to improve and schedule her spay. She’s been through way too much in her short time on earth, we’re looking forward to having her medically cleared for adoption!

This little guy was so sweet and pleading for attention, I couldn’t find info on him but he did have tags! Hoping if we share owner will see he’s at the shelter.

COURTESY POST— looking for rightful owner of this dog.
About 1:30 am Friday I picked up this small dog from the middle of Firestone Blvd. I took it to Washington Animal Hospital but they said they had no doctors there that day. Even though they were seeing patients. They wouldn't even check it for a chip. I live in Downey. SEACCA services my area and they are a high kill shelter. The Downey animal care shelter will not accept it because I live in Downey. It's not my dog. I have a Belgian Malinois. I'm in the process of moving to Downey to care for my Mother (92 years old, broke her femur, she'll never walk again) and her Chihuahua. My husband of 30+ years passed 2 years ago, Probate is coming to an end, I've got a realtor pressuring me to finish removing my belongings from the house so it can be sold. I can not keep or properly take care of this little dog. It has slept in the bed of my truck the last 2 nights. I couldn't leave it in the street to be run over or attacked by coyotes. I will not take it to be euthanized. I desperately need someone to keep it while I try to find the owner. I'm sure it belongs to someone. Can you help, please?

We are beyond blessed for our loving and patient foster mom, Charlotte. We were able to save Bally from the shelter on her last possible day. Unfortunately, adoptions at the shelter (and in rescues) are at an all-time low, and the shelter is currently operating at 197% capacity—please see the attached chart for a visual reference.

Despite our best efforts and a week of urgent pleading to our followers for a short-term foster home without other dogs, we were unable to secure one!

We anticipated that Bally would come to us with kennel cough, a common respiratory virus in shelter dogs. Charlotte, who thought her days of dealing with snotty noses were behind her, is now caring for Bally during her recovery.

To save shelter dogs, they must enter our rescue and go straight into a 2-3 week quarantine period, depending on the severity of their kennel cough. We are always seeking short term foster homes (with no other pets) so as to not infect resident pets in a home with other animals. Your support in providing a temporary 2-3 week foster home, long term foster home and/or making a donation is crucial.

If you have ever considered fostering, now is the perfect time to step up. Your support can make a world of difference. We are seeking additional short-term foster homes for other dogs like Bally, ideally for just two weeks, as the only dog. As a nonprofit charity, we rely heavily on the generosity of our community to continue our vital work. Donations are also at an all-time low, but we didn’t want to wait to save Bally’s life while we raised pledges for funds for her costly surgery (cherry eyes + spay).

Junior / JR is now named Mudd. He sure looks like he’s enjoying is forever home! Mudd got to travel in a boat and went to Catalina Island! How awesome is that?
