Janet Bocaner - Founder, Erica Bocaner - President
After a lifelong interest in horses and everything equine, Janet Bocaner has spent the last 10 years repairing bridles, martingales and strap goods. Janet began to notice a few consistent trends…first, manufacturers don’t make dense, hard leather like they used to. In today’s market, soft leather—which requires very little break-in time—is favore
d by consumers. It is nearly impossible to find the type of leather that was used in construction of sandwich cases and vintage tack still being used today! The second observation was that there are people who never their clean tack; it stiffens, rots, and breaks. With the softer, more porous leather preferred by consumers today, it’s very easy to over oil and over condition your tack! Riders are instructed to dunk new tack in barrels and soak up oil, or clean and oil with every use. How often have you seen or maybe had a new brand-name bridle require parts to be shortened after oiling and use? Another incentive for the “over-oiler” is the desire to have the leather quickly darken and feel “broken in.” Daily use is the best method to break in new tack and with the leather that is used today, this won’t take long! If one prefers their tack dark, it’s best to buy it that way. Over-oiling to achieve a desired color is extremely damaging to leather. Lastly, those electing to clean tack daily can also damage and dry out leather with the excess use of soaps and detergents. After observing these trends over and over again, Janet Bocaner decided to experiment and come up with what we believe is a superior product that both lightly cleanses and conditions tack. The mixture contains natural oils of the highest quality, along with other natural ingredients, to make a truly unique tack care and cleaning product. With proper use, no additional oil should be necessary to maintain beautiful, supple tack. There are many outside factors influencing how long your tack and leather will last—is your tack stored in a hot barn or an air conditioned tack room? Do you use your tack daily or just on occasion? Royal Saddle Soap was developed with these specific factors in mind. A well-loved bridle that gleams with care only enhances the love you have for your horse! Royal Saddle Soap is also an excellent product for cleaning and conditioning riding boots, belts, shoes, handbags and baseball gloves! Instructions: Wipe tack daily with slightly dampened rag or sponge to
remove sweat and dirt, paying extra attention to bit ends and other
areas of extensive use. Dampen sponge and massage into Royal Saddle Soap tin, wipe tack again to distribute product and remove excess. Use sparingly, 2 – 4 times weekly depending on use as Royal
Soap is highly concentrated.
