For the Love of a Rat Welcome to For the Love of a Rat! We are currently revamping the shop. We plan to return to continue rat hammock and accessory production.

After discovering the joys of owning pet rats, I discovered shopping for their supplies proved to be difficult. I'd find myself in cat toys, bird aisle or shopping for ferret supplies. I felt like the baby bear in Goldilocks, without the happy ending. Pet rats deserved to have a line of products specific to their pets needs

Our Rat Story

My shop is dedicated to my late pet rat, Butterscotch. Even before Butterscotch joined our family, I started researching information related to owning a pet rat. To my surprise, there were so many positive qualities pet rats have that I was unaware.

They aren’t similar to other Pocket Pets, such as hamsters, gerbils and mice. Rats have an intelligence level well above the typical small animal. New owners are often surprised about the emotional connection they achieve with their pet rats, often referred to as dog-like in their desire for human interaction and affection. This is just the tip of the iceberg, as to the joys of adding a domesticated rats to your family.

I can personally attest to the validity of this information and similar information is easily found online, for those who may be on the fence about adopting a pet rat. Also keep in mind that also similar to dogs, pet rats would also impose a time commitment. It’s important to be aware that since we can’t bring our intelligent new friend with us everywhere, they do best in living with other rats. They are very social animals.

After adopting Butterscotch, and a few friends for him, I started shopping for accessories to enhance their time in the cage. Search results for pet rats toys and accessories were not abundant. I had more success search for ferret or bird toys. For me it became clear their was a clear void in the marketing industries for pet rat owners. This is where the idea of starting a pet rat specific shop stemmed.
