The type of feeding and water bowl you use matters to your lab’s health! Please read for some important information 😊

Study: Metal bowls have MORE dangerous bacteria⚠️ than plastic! 🤯

Pet food and water bowls can transmit bacteria, according to research, and while 67% of owners use metal bowls, only about 1/3 of people wash the bowl after a meal, and some only dry wipe, which is how the bacteria party gets started 🤢. And that slippery film in the water bowl after 24 hours? That’s a brew of bacteria🦠 that can be transferred from your dog to you and your family.

The amount of moisture in the food also matters. Wet food (compared to dry) was associated with higher bacteria - and higher humidity levels are likely to create perfect conditions for bacterial growth, especially after coming in contact with dog saliva left in the bowl.

In our new book, The Forever Dog LIFE, we lay out the pro’s and con’s of different types of bowls. Here’s a glimpse of what you need to know:

Plastic🥣: Chemicals in plastic absorb through the skin and inhibit the synthesis of melanin, which can cause Plastic Dish Nasal Dermatitis that leaves your pet’s nose & lips, pink and irritated.

Ceramic:🫖 Hartpury scientists found the most harmful bacterial species (salmonella, E.coli and MRSA) were most frequently found in ceramic bowls because of people continuing to use them after fine cracks in the glaze become visible.

Stainless steel🥄: cheaper quality bowls have been involved in recalls due to heavy metal contamination. Be sure to buy high-quality bowls (18/8 or 304 steel) from a trusted source.

Glass🥛: Durable, kitchen-friendly glass bowls made from 100% borosilicate glass (Pyrex) make great food and water bowls on the floor.

🧼No matter which type of bowl you use, the best thing you can do to protect you and your dog’s health is to wash your bowl after every meal with hot water and soap. In addition, at least once a week, run your bowls through the hot cycle in your dishwasher. You can also coat the bowl with hydrogen peroxide, wait five minutes, then wipe with a clean sponge and rinse.

Two years today my sweet girl. It’s been two years since I last held you. It’s been two years that I’ve cried every single day over losing you. Some grief is just too big . Some loves are just too much to bear when lost. I haven’t been the same since you left. The piece of my heart that you took with you was a bit too big to ever feel the same level of joy again . There’s always a quiet sadness inside now. I don’t talk about it. I try not to show it. But I feel it every day and in everything I do.
I feel you when the wind blows through the pines. I smell you in your blanket that I have wrapped in plastic to keep your scent. I see you when I close my eyes , running up the hill and walking ahead of me on our late night walks back in Jamison. Always looking over your shoulder to be sure I was right behind you…. And it’s so painful when I fall out of these precious moments to the reality that you aren’t here.
In the warmth of your fur I found solace . I found acceptance and understanding. I found unconditional, honest, pure, selfless love. You never allowed me to feel less then. You were my safe place. You were my haven. You were the sweet part of my days. You were the calm in all the storms. You were the quiet in all the noise. You were my best friend. You were my child.

My Otis. I love this boy with all my heart ♥️ I lost my Lou-Lu 5 days before he was born. I have no doubt that my Lou whispered in his ear , to take care of my broken heart just as she done eleven years earlier and all of her life. Thank you sweet girl . You picked the perfect boy for your momma ❤️❤️

Todays our Gotcha Day” Lou-Lu .Twelve years ago today I brought you home and you brought me home into your heart. I had no idea that day ,how profound and impactful your love and kindness and loyalty would be in my life.You changed me. You made me who I am. You gave me a reason on days that seemed hopeless. You showed me the path when I was lost. I’ve struggled finding that path this past year but you keep showing me that you’re still right here beside me and let me know where I need to go.
Your death has changed me Lou . There’s an emptiness that continues to linger in my soul . There’s a hurt that simply won’t heal . I still cry every day. I’m so grateful that we remain so spiritually connected- you’re everywhere with me and make it very clear that you’re still at my side but oh how miss the physical aspect of you being here. What I wouldn’t give to hold you and kiss you good night just one more time.… that beautiful, sweet face of yours. Please feel all my love tonight . Please feel all the gratitude and thanks I hold in my heart for having shared my life with you. Thank you for choosing me to share your life with . Thank you for allowing me to choose you . One year today my sweet boy. One year. It hasn’t gotten any easier. I still cry every day. I think I always will. I can’t help it. I just miss seeing you. What I wouldn’t give to hold you again and to feel you nibble on my ear. I know you’re here with me and your pack and it helps to comfort me. I feel you and I see the little things you do to let me know you’re here. The light was back on downstairs this morning. No coincidence today is your angelversary. It always happens when I’m really struggling with my grief. You and Lou-Lu remain so loyal and loving . What an amazing gift you two have been for me. Our bond is eternal and through this journey of grief, I have learned that nothing , not even death will separate us.
I love you so sweet boy. I love you with all that I am …. Thank you for being mine forever❤️

It’s been quite some time since I’ve posted on here. 2022 proved to be a very unkind year full of loss and hurt . I suppose I needed some time away to try and navigate the heartache and try to find a new path forward. My Skylar, my very first momma and the foundation of my breeding program was diagnosed with an aggressive mast cell cancer just two months after losing Jameson and Lou-Lu. At the time I was so numb from losing them that it seemed completely surreal that I would likely lose another love before the years end. We began treatment immediately following her surgery last May, to remove the tumor. Monday was her second post treatment scan - nine months out . Monday we got a win !! Completely clear and perfect blood work. A win! We actually got a win!! I begged God to give me a chance to save her . I wasn’t given the time to save Lou and as hard as I tried , I couldn’t save Jamie. But I got that chance with my Skylar. I know my Lou and Jamie watch over her and I know they are steadfast at my side .
Today, she’s here… healthy and happy and I am grateful beyond words ..treasuring every single moment I get to see her beautiful face ❤️

This past year I have been working on expanding my passion for breeding English Labradors by introducing it to my creative side. I truly believe that our Labs make everything in life better; a bad day, a good day, a broken heart, a wounded soul, a joyous occasion and a day full of tears . They make it all better , simply by being themselves and gracing our lives with theirs . And so , I have carried this belief into the creation of designs for some of the small items that we use often. This way our dogs can be enjoyed by us in more ways then one.
I collaborated with my daughter Brynley and we created our brand “Piggles and Moo”, named after the nicknames for my foundation female , Skylar and my daughters first Lab ( from me) , Maisy . While
English Labs are our breed of choice we want to celebrate all dogs and have many breeds available for our designs.
Currently we are working on mugs, drink tumblers , tea towels, canvas totes and have more then a few other ideas in the process . For the little ones in your life we will have onsies, sippy cups, baby bottles and pacifier clips. Our Etsy store has opened and we’ve gradually started listing items. And yes , I’m still breeding ! I needed some time to heal a little after losing Lou-Lu and Jamie and really needed to focus on getting Skylar through her Cancer treatment and I’m so happy to report she is in remission 🙏🏻 Also , Mother nature has been quite the fickle girl this year and it’s been a quiet year here at Moon Haven Labs , but hoping for and looking forward to a few breedings in 2023 ❤️
