Vernon & District Animal Care Society PERMANENTLY CLOSED We are a group of local animal lovers. We know that spay/neutering is the only permanent and humane solution.

We are working hard to reduce the root cause of pet overpopulation, abandonment, suffering and premature death for hundreds of unwanted pets in the North Okanagan. We also know that many people cannot afford the total cost of altering their pets.

Courtesy Post on behalf of Kyle. He says:

"I have 2 beautiful gingers I rescued this summer that need a forever home. THEY HAVE TO BE PLACED TOGETHER. They are roughly 2-3 years old they are fixed and have had first shots. These 2 are so loving and affectionate. Unfortunately my cats, especially my 45lb main c**n, are not as friendly and do not want them inside so in order to avoid costly vet bills and/or someone being hurt we sadly need to find these 2 a new home. Serious inquiries only"

If you are interested, please message us at VDACS and we will provide you with contact info for Kyle. It's easy to see they are bonded, so we understand why they need to be together. Aren't they gorgeous? Please share our post if you can and let's try to find these lads a home. (They are currently in Vernon.)

COURTESY POST
This cute senior is Misty. She’s 15.

Her first 10 years, she was with a family with a volatile child. We don’t know how difficult that was for her, but she has some trust issues, so you can guess. After that, she was taken in by that family’s grandma, and finally she landed with Sheri’s aunt, who has given her a very nice past 2 ½ years. Unfortunately, her aunt isn’t well, and is in hospital for the next while, at least a month and possibly more. All this makes things rather lonely and uncertain for Misty. She has suggested that it might be best for Misty to be rehomed rather than have her wait at home alone with someone just dropping in. Foster care would be difficult as well, since most foster situations have other animals, and Misty wouldn’t adapt well to that.

The perfect family would be adults only with no other pets. Misty will likely be slow to warm up, given everything she has been through. Are you someone who could give a senior cat a safe and calm retirement home? Look at her; she’s adorable! If you think you can help Misty out, please contact Sheri Clark through private message. She will comment on this post so you can find her. Feel free to share this message on your social media and let’s find this pretty girl a new home.

Thanks everyone!

Dear Friends and Followers of OHS:
We need to put the word out that there is an overwhelming cat and kitten explosion this year. ALL rescues and charities in the Okanagan are experiencing this.

If you are able to adopt another cat or kitten into your home; or volunteer as a foster or helper at an adoption event please sign up on our site.

https://okanaganhumanesociety.com/volunteer/

As well, please be patient with all volunteers at OHS and other Rescues and Charities while we do our best to rescue as many as possible, and try to pay for the vet care that is desperately needed.

Bank accounts are critically low, and therefore OHS has had to temporarily pause the Pet Assistance Program (helping pets in low income families with spay/neuter and medical) in order to keep up with the needs of the Rescue Program.

Services are in extremely high demand, unlike ever seen before in our 26 year history.

If you see an animal in need, please try to support it with food, water and shelter daily until OHS or another rescue can help. We are all in this together to help our local animals ❤️

It truly takes a village to rescue animals.

Thank you for your understanding, support and compassion for community animals.

Please share! COURTESY POST. YOU WILL NEED TO CONTACT THE OWNER.

This is BELLA. Isn't she a cutie? Bella is 2 years old, half Siamese, up to date on all her shots, spayed, tattooed, microchipped. She is very gentle and kind with humans, but she wants to dominate other cats and can get feisty about it. She would probably do best as an ONLY CAT. If you have a home with no other cats, and would like to be a slave to this beautiful girl, private message us and we will provide the phone number for her owner.

It’s an exciting day! We’re proud to announce that the RDNO will be opening BC’s very first off-leash cat park.

Some of the planned park features include two all-weather scratch posts, plenty of surfaces with assorted items for cats to knock off of them, and ample park space to ignore you. Future phases could include cat-herding attendants and a giant ball of yarn. Park patrons will be expected to bring their own laser pointers.

Construction is expected to begin on April 1, 2023.

Happy Birthday Betty White !

Betty was an advocate for animals & at one time she reportedly had 26 dogs! I think we can all agree the world would be a better place if we all tried to be a little bit more like Betty.

If you’re looking for a different way to honor Betty’s legacy and her love for animals, check out some of these other amazing organizations. Follow their pages, share their posts, just spreading the word on the great work organizations do makes a huge difference !

Introducing Kito. The last of our boy buns to be neutered by Central Animal Hospital. That means all our males are now neutered, what a great way to finish off 2021.

2022 is now the year of the spay and we hope to have all our girl bunnies fixed by the end of this year.

It is always good to set goals, especially ones that promote the health and well being of our furry friends.

We would like to thank VDACS for helping us with our spays and neuters. With their help and the expert vets at Central we have bunnies going in for spays on a weekly basis. Our future is bright ❤

VDACS long time volunteer Carole Wheeler's sister needs our help.
Joanne and Mike have a farm sanctuary in Abbotsford that has been destroyed. They were able to rescue most of there animals but not all. Some of those rescued animals were cats that they took in from VDACS.
Please consider making a donation, they need our help now.

I think we can all agree that spaying and neutering is a top of the list priority for the health of our companion animals plus feral population health and control.

At Warren Peace we have taken in so many abandoned animals who were not fixed and with many pregnant.

The great news is that VDACS has generously offered to help us out on a monthly basis with our vet and feed costs !!!

They understand the immediate need and positive results of spaying and neutering. They also understand that many people have taken in companion animals during covid times that may be having difficulties getting their animals fixed for whatever reason. Reach out to them if you need help as that is their mandate.

Below is their link. Check them out and see all the good work they do.

Thank you VDACS ❤
