This week some of my dogs had their annual vet visits. The vets I use are fear free clinics. That means they take steps to lessen Fear, Anxiety, and Stress. I do my part by doing some dry runs, victory visits (stop in treat party), and bringing a variety of fun toys for the room while they wait. Last year Maple had ro be carried (all 60lbs) into the clinic. This year we used a pattern game to get her to walk into the clinic all by herself! The scary part is sandwiched between fun and food. Three of my dogs also get Anxiety meds to help take the edge off, esp when there is bloodwork involved. Happy to report that everyone did great and there was very little stress and the stress they did have was forgotten quickly. .
Look up fear free happy homes to find a vet and/or trainer near you that can help your dog have positive vet experiences. It is so nice and less stress for human and dog!
