How is everyone doing? We hope everything is all right on your end. 🐈

After Toffee's surgery 3 weeks ago, we had to step back for a bit as we had to deal with a lot. Work was hectic and back home, most of our rescues, especially the FIV ones, are down with respiratory issues as we entered one of the coldest months in Baguio. Toffee also needed a second surgery as his right eye did not heal well and a part of the skin of his right cheek almost fell off. I was also down with the flu, tested positive wih COVID and just recently recovered. But the most difficult part was dealing with the loss of two of our FIV rescues.

Asher was one of our cancer cases rescued June of last year, while Misha was an adopted senior cat during the pandemic 4 years ago because his owner had to relocate abroad for good and no one stepped up to take him in despite several postings.

Toffee's surgery was a success 🐈🐾

His tumors on the ears and right eyelid were finally removed. What a relief! No more bloody eye and ears πŸ₯Ή Hopefully, he fully recovers. ❀️

His final surgery bills amounted to P19,867.50, more than the initial estimate. Sadly, we received little help for Toffee since posting. It was Mama Amby's excess funds which helped cover most of it but we still lack P4,805.29. πŸ˜”

Toffee was a stray we rescued last month. He tested positive for Feline Immunodeficiency Virus (FIV) and based on other tests done, he has squamous cell carcinoma, a type of skin cancer common among light-colored cats. πŸ˜”

He took medications first for several weeks to help correct some of his values before he can be cleared for surgery.

Today is rescue Toffee's surgery at GPH Veterinary Services for removal of his tumors and the estimate of the vet is more or less P15k. Thank you to those who helped Mama Amby back then. We already re-allocated her excess funds to help cover Toffee's surgery bills but we still lack more or less 3k.

How I wish everybody could see your beautiful face but what I have captured was one with pain. I do not wish for people to remember you like that so here's the only decent picture I can offer in your memory - a mother waiting for her babies who could have seen the outside world and experience your motherly love to the fullest.

In a week or two, you could have given birth and I know how much weight you carried in the past few days and you weren't even able to eat for a day. By experience, heavily pregnant cats are not as fast and agile. So when the three dogs ran after you attacked you, you stood no chance. πŸ˜”

By instinct, pregnant cats are protective of their bellies to protect their vital organs from injury.

I cannot imagine the pain of getting bit on your belly, neck and hind parts. At least 4 puncture wounds in the hind area with visible trauma, at least 11 puncture wounds in the belly (with visible signs of "wasiwas" and trauma), at least 3 puncture wounds in the chest and at least 2 puncture wounds in the neck. πŸ˜­πŸ’”) More than the physical pain, I cannot imagine the fear, the emotional trauma you experienced in those moments - thinking of the babies you have to protect more than yourself.

Miraculously, you somehow survived the attack initially but for you to live, your body had to shut down what it could to concentrate your remaining strength on personal survival. Your babies had to go before you.

I was heartbroken seeing the little ones inside you, already curled up and lifeless. I could see them clearly, those tiny legs that could have walked this earth. πŸ’”πŸ˜”

The vet tried to save you. Though things looked dim, we hoped you can miraculously recover somehow. Sadly, the universe had other plans.

You had to be that mother to be with your babies until the end and accompany them across the rainbow bridge.

I am sorry, mama Amby. I am so sorry you had to leave like this. If only we can do more to save you. I am so sorry that the least I can do is to give you and your babies a proper send off.

Please spare the dogs po. They had no reasoning like humans do but act only on instinct, based also on how they were raised. There are a lot of dogs who can coexist with cats peacefully or even develop loving relationships with them and other species. The ones at fault here are the owners. Allegedly, marami na napatay ang dogs sa area but they still allow them to freely roam, and we're looking into this.

About Amby, the heavily pregnant cat attacked by three dogs and rescued earlier πŸ˜”πŸ’”

Amby was just minding her business as she waited to meet her babies after a week or two, when three owned dogs went after her, caught her and attempted to kill her. She suffered several bite wounds on her neck, abdomen and hind part. The bite wounds on her abdomen showed signs that the dog violently shook her and tossed her around while still in its mouth or "winasiwas" siya. Miraculously, she survived the attack but her seven little babies did not. 😒

Her ultrasound and xray showed those poor, innocent souls already curled up inside her tummy without heartbeats. Results also showed that she had an empty gut, a sign that she did not have a meal for at least a day. Worse, it seemed that her intenstines may have perforated or went outside the cavity already. πŸ˜” At the vet, she was already cold and severely anemic with all the blood loss and trauma she has suffered. Emergency CS could not be performed as her vitals were bad and she will definitely die on the operating table if we went that route.

The vet tried to stabilize her first and as per the latest update, her temperature is readable already, is on IV fluids and close monitoring. She is currently confined at Angeles Pet Care Center under critical care and her prognosis is still poor.

Please send Amby healing thoughts and prayers. Hope she makes it and overcomes this traumatic incident. And please dedicate a prayer for the little ones on their way across the rainbow bridge. πŸ˜’πŸ’”πŸŒˆπŸˆπŸˆπŸˆπŸˆπŸˆπŸˆπŸˆ

Lastly, here's to calling for responsible dog ownership. Please keep them within your premises or leashed when in public places. "𝐌𝐲 𝐑𝐨𝐦𝐞" 🐈

Lately, napapansin kong laging umaakyat si Cola para tignan at hawakan yung old painting ng bahay namin. Pinagmamasdan ko lang siya and a random thought crossed my mind.

Sometimes I doubt my purpose, lalo na when I'm faced with difficulties and heartbreaks. Pero siguro this was a subtle reminder to go back to the question, "Why am I doing this?"

I believe that despite all the hardships, as much as I can, I am able to share our home to strays and be the family they needed or yearned for, to give them love and care, and to be their human until the end so they can have a name and good memories to bring with them when they cross over. Makasama ko man sila for a short or a long time, at the end of the day, I was able to help them kahit sa ganung paraan lang.
. Or maybe may agiw lang talaga yung painting. 😹 But kidding aside, I believe we are here for a purpose - for things far greater than our personal interests for we live not only for ourselves but for others as well.

Let us live our lives with a purpose.

Isa si Cobra (tortie) sa mga stray cats na bumibisita sa amin para makikain pero hanggang ngayon ay mailap pa rin siya. Bago dumating ang bagyong Julian ay dinala niya ang dalawang anak niya para makisilong. Binigyan namin sila doon ng higaan at hinahatiran ng pagkain at tubig. We were hoping na eto na yung chance na mapaamo sila hanggang sa isang araw, pagkatapos ng bagyo ay umalis din sila.

Noong Sabado, pagkatapos naman ng bagyong Kristine, narinig kong may nagmmeow sa labas ng gate at paglabas ko andun silang tatlo. Siguro noon lang sila nakalabas ulit dala ng katatapos na bagyo. Mailap pa rin sila pero dahil nagpakita na sila sa lugar na mas stable kumpara sa taas ng bubong ay baka mas madali namin silang mapaamo at mahuli.

Kagabi ay tinawag muli namin sila para kumain ng dinner pero dalawa nalang silang mag-ina ang nagpakita. At nang umuwi ang ate ko ay kwinento niyang nakita niya din ang mag-ina malapit sa area kung saan napansing nyang may mga bakas ng dugo sa kalsada sa baba. Kinabahan ako kaya't bumaba ako para icheck. Sa kasamaang palad, naging biktima na pala ang isang anak ni Cobra ng hit and run at nakita ko siya sa gilid na wala ng buhay 😒 Inuwi nalang namin siya upang mailibing.

Run free, kitty. Nakakalungkot na napaiksi lang ng naging buhay nya at sa ganoong paraan pa nawala. 😿 Mag-ingat po sana tayo sa pagmamaneho.

I had a heartfelt closure after Okto's passing (which is why I deactivated the page for a short while). I communicated with him through someone. Two years ago, ginawa ko din ito kay Coli which really helped me with his passing. I also shared this experience with a fellow advocate who was heartbroken as I was and I believe it also helped her with the grieving. Some may not believe it, I believed it, it was unexplainable but I guess it's really up to the person. I'm just sharing this to help out others who are willing to go the extra mile just as someone helped me back then. Feel free to message me about it ❀️

Ang isa sa pinakamasakit kapag nagmamahal ay yung nakikita silang tumatanda at nagkakasakit. Sa abot ng lahat ng makakaya natin, gagawin natin lahat, magkandaletse-letse man ang lahat, mahirapan man tayo at mabutas man ang bulsa, madagdagan lang ng kahit segundo, minuto, oras, araw o taon ang buhay nila. At ang pinaka-kinakatakutan natin ay kapag dumating na yung oras nila - yung bagay na hindi na natin kontrolado pa.

Napakahirap ng mga nagdaang panahon. Minsan ding nagduda ako sa sabi nilang hindi ka bibigyan ng Diyos ng problema na hindi mo makakayanan. Natanong ko, totoo ba kasi parang hindi ko na nga kinakaya. 😞

Isa sa mga naging coping mechanism ko ay ang pagbabasa ng mga libro tungkol sa "pet loss and grief". At isa sa mga di ko malimutang linya ay ito:

"We have a hard time accepting emotionally that they have such shorter lives than we do. But if they outlived us, who would care for and love them when we die? And who would be there to honor their memories? Maybe this is the best way." -The Loss of a Pet, Wallace Sife

It has to be me.

One of my realizations was, I'd rather have my heart broken than leave them confused and heartbroken when I'm suddenly gone.

I believe someday, somehow, we will all meet again and those will be the better days I have always looked forward to.

Remember the kitten thrown onto a vacant lot and caught on CCTV?

Here he is now. We named him Meea, now Mio. Turned out he's a little boy 😸

Sadly, he tested positive for FIV and has bad colds. Nagstart naman din agad ang gamutan niya and he is better than when rescued. Thank you to everyone who extended help for Meea/Mio. Continue pa rin ang gamutan niya. Hopefully, he fully recovers ❀️🐈

P.S. I was made aware na nakarating na ito sa barangay. Someone reached out to us and explained that ang kwento daw as told, ay Mio was picked up by the man on the video kasi nasagasaan daw at dahil mukhang mamamatay na, nilagay nalang nya sa bakanteng lote.

Mio was checked by the vet on the same day. No injuries indicating na nasagasaan siya and definitely, he did not look like he was dying. There are other footages to show there was considerable distance na nilakad and even if totoong he was hit and run and looked like he was dying, which was highly improbable given the proof available, he certainly did not deserve to be thrown just like that. Hindi nilagay, tinapon. On the contrary, from our encounters with hit and run cases, whether they somehow survived or died on the spot, tinatabi sila ng mga tao with utmost care due to possible fractures, or put them in a box while calling for help, or for those who did not make it, some even go the extra mile to bury them or look for help in sending them off with dignity. I hope everyone will be kind and gentle enough to do that. πŸ™

Lastly, let us call out the action, and not focus our energies solely on throwing hate at the person. Let us educate.

The birth of BCAF

We have seen it all. Cats being abandoned or thrown out onto the streets because they have been naughty or their growing numbers became unmanageable or simply because they’re unwanted. Even the small ones, especially the newborns, are not spared. They are left out there to fend for themselves. While some may be lucky to survive the streets, rescued or picked up by concerned individuals, most of them die unnamed, unwanted and unloved.

On June 22, 2018, the idea of BCAF was born. It was thought of as a way not only to find loving homes and families for cats within the area of Baguio-Benguet easier and faster but also to promote adoption and educate the public about the humane options of adoption or foster. This page was created in the hopes that there will be no more cats and kitties abandoned, abused or left homeless.

This is not a rescue group. We encourage everyone to be humane enough to contain and keep safe the cat in need of rescue until we are able to look for an adopter. We can accommodate special cases only especially if it is a life or death situation.
