Meet Tootsie – A Resilient Little Treasure Ready for Her Forever Home

Nine-year-old Tootsie has already lived a lifetime of hardship—but you’d never know it from the quiet sweetness she carries today. For years, this tiny poodle was left outside on a short lead, her coat matted to the skin, her body crawling with fleas. When one of our incredible volunteers rescued her, we couldn’t even tell what breed she was. A gentle shave-down, extensive dental work, and months of tender veterinary care later, Tootsie is finally thriving in her foster home.

Tootsie’s heart truly comes alive around other dogs. She absolutely needs canine companions and especially loves big dogs—her favorite cuddle buddy is an 80-lb Pittie mix! With people, she can be a little shy at first, but patience and kindness help her bloom into a devoted friend.

Her favorite pastime? Quiet strolls around a yard, nose to the ground, enjoying the breeze. Meal time is pure joy—after being so underweight, she now does a wiggly “happy dance” before every bowl, savoring each bite with enthusiasm.

Tootsie is a gentle, soulful senior who longs for:

• A home with at least one friendly dog
• A secure yard for leisurely exploring
• Humans who understand she may need a moment to trust—but who will be rewarded with quiet loyalty and love

Bosco is only 18 months old and has already been through so much in his short life. Severely neglected to the point that Animal Control had to seize him. He came in so skinny and insecure. In the short time that he’s been in boarding, we have seen him really come out of his shell and he is even a little goofy. He definitely needs training and leash manners. He definitely needs an experienced Shepherd owner that will give him the life that he deserves. He’s a lot of fun in the yard and loves to play fetch. He gives wonderful kisses when he feels safe and when he loves you it’s deep.

This beautiful girl is five year old Lala. She was rescued from a backyard breeding situation. She was bred three times which is three times too many. Her last litter included the other two Frenchies we have, Loki and Scarlett. Lala is so sweet and loving, she craves the attention she never got and wants to sleep with you, near you or physically on top of you!!! She came from a home with a not so nice male human so she will have to go into an all female home. Lala has a snore that rivals someone with sleep apnea. You can hear her from rooms away. It is so cute so hopefully you can sleep through her snoring. She was extremely skinny and emaciated when we got her. She has slowly been gaining weight which has helped her confidence and not feeling like she isn't going to get fed. Lala loves to run around the backyard sniffing and investigating everything around. Although Lala lives with other dogs including her puppies, we believe she would be best as an only dog. She deserves to be the princess in her family.

Koda is a stunning Lab mix who was rescued with his sister Molly from an overcrowded puppy mill situation. Koda was extremely shy when rescued but is now blossoming into a big mush!!! Koda is about one year old and absolutely loves to be outside running in the yard and playing with toys. He is currently learning to walk on a leash and is doing very well. He loves other dogs and would do extremely well in a home with another super-friendly, confident and loving dog who can show him the ropes of home life. Koda is currently in a foster home with his sister but they will NOT be adopted together. Siblings do not do well together when they mature. He lives for the butt scratches and belly rubs and will roll over any chance he gets in the hopes of getting all the pets. He is crate-trained and potty trained. Koda is still slightly shy when meeting people and doesn't do well with commotion so an adult only home or with older kids will be required

Molly is about one year old and absolutely loves to be outside running in the yard and playing with toys. She is currently learning to walk on a leash and is doing well. She loves other dogs and would do extremely well in a home with another super-friendly, confident and loving dog who can show her the ropes of home life. Molly is currently in a foster home with her brother but they will NOT be adopted together. Siblings do not do well together when they mature. She loves to snuggle up on the couch with a warm blanket or on a fluffy dog bed. She is crate-trained and potty trained. Billy is a handsome 2 ½ year old Shepherd/Pittie/Husky mix who was recently surrendered to a local North Jersey shelter. While we didn’t know Billy personally as a pup, Best Friend was aware of his litter of eight two years ago. Over time, we’ve rescued and placed four of his siblings into wonderful homes, and now it’s Billy’s turn to find his happily-ever-after.

This sweet boy is understandably a little bewildered by the kennel environment after having grown up in a home, but his gentle, easy-going nature shines through. He walks beautifully on leash, seems to enjoy the company of other dogs, and has a calm, lovable temperament that makes him a joy to be around. Billy is fully vetted and ready for his forever family.

Just like his brothers and sisters before him, we know Billy’s perfect match is out there — and he’s so ready to meet them.
