Owned and run by Steve A This lasted 12 years as I decided to emigrate to Australia.

I started my apprenticeship at age 16 and studied for 5 yrs at Farriery Collage in Hereford, which I gained a Diploma Of The Worshipful Company Of Farriers. After this I worked along side another farrier for 2yrs to learn more about shoeing etc

I then set up my own farrier business in Lancashire, North of England. It was a slow start at first building up clients and getting my business name out t

here. It took 2 years to prove who I was and what I could do when I finally got my permanent resident visa. Then in January 2010 I landed in Queensland, Australia. I had decided to make the Gold Coast/Hinterland my home. After again starting from nothing this time in a new country, I am building up a new farrier business with a lot of hard work and great clients I am making Australia my home.

I never thought I’d be writing this but about 12 months ago I was diagnosed with a Peripheral neurodegenerative muscular disease…which results in damage to the peripheral nervous system resulting in muscle atrophy, and loss of sensation and motor functions….But in the last few months it has got worse and rapidly took over my body ….my muscles are wasting away to the point I can no longer walk or balance properly…grip or hold on to things properly I’m also in the process of getting leg braces fitted to help with walking and balance…. It’s also progressive and there is no cure….So I’m having to stop working and close the business down as of today as my health is now my number one priority… I will message customers who are booked in and give them some other farriers names who hopefully can help them out
This has not just been a job for me but it’s been my career and passion for 33yrs and I’m absolutely devastated and heartbroken to be giving it up

An update on this one from March the horse has greatly improved and the rotation has decreased and the hoof wall is growing back stronger and better …a few more shoeings and will not be far off back to normal…

Not posted for a while here’s one we did that had very thin sole and severe underunning with 16 degree rotation with 11 degree palmar angle
So we took away the dorsal wall and managed to get a shoe on with a vettec soft pad so hopefully now with every few weeks repeat and see how he goes
And walked away sound

A horse today with mild Navicular shod with 3 degree hoof pad with medium impression material …. Very happy with how horse walked away after being done and will see how it goes over next few weeks ….
