I know there have been a few people trying to reach out to me through the page, and I apologize for not getting back to any messages. Things have been a bit busy in personal life as my partner and I are welcoming our first child in June! Until then the page will be on a hiatus and I feel comfortable getting back into the groove of things. Thank you always for the continued support ❤

I know I haven't been posting much lately, but there has been a lot of activity going on behind the scenes of HCOTPN!

Firstly, we have 6 purple pinchers that are seeking homes. The adoption form will be attached to this post. Please only apply if you live in Oregon/Vancouver, WA

Having had 4 new crabs brought in this month, the rescue tank (a 40 gallon) became crowded, so a second 40 has been setup. Both 40 gallon tanks now house our residential crabs and my personal 75 gallon tank has been made the new rescue tank

Lastly, we have 2 crabs who are displaying what is know as guarding behavior, the first steps towards hermit crab reproduction. While captive breeding is something I look forward to pursuing someday, I don't have the time, space, or money to invest in it at the moment. But it's exciting to see this happen in my 6-7 years of experience in caring for hermit crabs 😊

Hope everyone has been doing well!

I have not had access to our adoption form for over a year up until tonight. I'd like to apologize to anyone who filled out the form and never got a response from me. The form was in dire need of an update anyways, so here is the link for the new and improved form!

I will later make a new pinned post that includes both this form link, a quick care guide, and a supply checklist to help people improve their current enclosures 😀

Hermit Crabs of the Pacific Northwest is happy to announce that we have 5 small Coenobita clypeatus (purple pincher hermit crabs) available for adoption. All 5 were previously housed together, have been with me for a minimum of 30 days, and have all gone through molts and shell changes since in my care.

Thinking about adopting? Consider that hermit crabs, like most exotic pets in the trade, are not cheap to setup an enclosure for, have high heat and humidity needs, require a special balanced diet, and can thrive for decades if cared for properly. They are also "hands off" pets due to the amount of stress handling causes, and their need to be able to breathe humid air through their specialized gills (think of them as similar to fish)

An adoption fee does apply. Please understand that I will not adopt out my animals until the potential owner has a proper habitat set up, as well as the proper knowledge to care for them for a long time. But once setup, hermit crabs require once a week maintenance, and are fairly easy to care for

Located in Albany OR

Please comment here if you are interested in adopting these wonderful critters 😊

Once again, I've allowed this page to get quiet, but it's been pretty quiet as far as the crabby rescue world goes. I recently took in 7 new crabbies last month, and will be taking in 2 more this weekend. Looking at putting together a new setup as well to help give everyone more space 😊

An upgrade for my personal 75 gallon crabitat. Installed two 2 1/2 gallon tanks as pools and upgraded to larger airstones for bubblers. I have two bubble filters on the way to help with keeping the water clean and fresh for the crabs. I'll be doing this with our rescue tank as well later next month 🙂

Let's see if Facebook will let me post without kicking me off the page (heaven forbid I post from a computer lol)

A lot has happened in the last year and a half. I've moved a few times, exited a relationship, rekindled an old relationship, gone through interpersonal trauma, and am now changing job locations. I've not felt confident enough to reopen my rescue until now. So many good things are falling into place for me, whether they are happening tomorrow or in a few months

Iton's also been a rough year for the crabs. Many of the rescues I took in ended up passing away due to stress of moving from poor conditions to good conditions, while others did not survive the stress of moving, leaving me with a group of 5 purple pinchers. But there is always a light at the end of the tunnel, as all 5 of my survivors went to a new home today! I couldn't be happier with their new home and their new handlers, who worked hard for months to get an amazing tank set up :)

A big thank you to those of you who were patient with me throughout this process, and to the people who supported me when I needed it. It's time to rock and roll again!

Our Story Begins...

... when I was a child. I was allowed to have hermit crabs and started taking them in from people who did no want to care for them anymore. They lived in a 10 gallon tank with a screen lid and shallow dirt. I changed their food and water daily, and was proud to be their caretaker. But slowly over time, they passed away. At the time, I had no idea that the conditions I was keeping them in were actually detrimental to their health. Years later, my family and I got crabs again, and with the help of the internet, I very slowly started to learn what they needed to thrive and not just survive. I spent a lot of time (and money) trying to perfect their setup and figure out what they needed to live past a few months. With the help of a hermit crab group on Facebook that I now administrate, I have been successfully keeping hermit crabs alive for years now. Seeing how often these animals get dumped and rehomed due to people not understanding how to properly take care of them is what sparked my desire to start a rescue. They are far more intelligent that they are given credit for, and each have their own unique personalities. My goal is to help spread proper information and help these animals get the care they deserve
