The very slow weaning process has began. 💛

The foals are now 6-7 months old and I start with just a 30 min separation from mum but still close by.
The timeframe and the space between foal and mum will increase over the next 2 months until all the foals are happy without mum for an extended period of time.

The foals develop a strong ability to self regulate emotions and are empowered to be independent.

The benefits of not only slow weaning but also ‘late’ weaning (over 8 months old) have been proven to reduce long term emotional separation anxiety and benefits to gut microbiome, reducing ulcers and other longer term health issues.

Even Milo drops his stick/sword and gets out of her way. He is a lover not a fighter 😅

This warms my heart…. I have no doubt Indira LV (Indi) will be one of my best mares at 5 years old too. 🥰🥰

Creating Healthy Diverse Pasture for Foals

Something I’m really passionate about is creating healthy diverse rested pastures, it can be difficult to do on smaller acreage but it is possible. Healthy soil = Healthy pasture = healthy foals = healthy horses! 🌱💚

So I took my gelding Florentino to a clinic over the weekend with Quintessential Dressage- Functional Training. We both had a great time learning. Turns out Tio had so much fun at the clinic he is ready to go again on Monday morning… 🤣

Hay!! 🌾 So important for any horses diet, all year round. However we are entering into the winter months here in Victoria, Hay provides a vital role in keeping the horses warm on those cold frosty nights ❄️ The girls enjoy daily low sugar native grass hay and lucerne in addition to pasture and a hard feed. #equinenutrition #pregnantmares
