PLEASE READ.
PLEASE THINK.

Thank you to all our loyal followers and supporters who tirelessly stand up for wildlife.

To those people who post comments starting ‘You should ….’ telling us what we should be doing, where we should be going, while they do absolutely nothing, please don’t do that.

It is up to everyone to take responsibility, play their part and do something to save our wildlife and environment.

For some people it’s donating money.
For others it might be starting a petition or writing to authorities.
Fundraising.
Letterbox drops.
Protesting.
Being wildlife rescuers & carers.
Giving public talks.

You don’t have to wait for someone else to get the ball rolling; anyone can take a stand.

For the keyboard warriors, either get off your backsides and be part of the solution or f* #% off.

RANT OVER 😉

ENTRAPPED WHALES UPDATE.

At 11.45pm last night, the mother and calf were freed, according to Shark Control Program operative, Tracey.

This is the same department that at 4.30pm yesterday, deemed the rescue too risky and would attend at first light. During those 7 hours, the calf became more entangled and we are now highly concerned for that calf’s wellbeing after being released from the shark netting.

This begs the question, why was it deemed too risky to attend at 4.30pm?

We are convinced that PUBLIC PRESSURE, via calls to the SCP hotline, promoted the action to attend.

There’s a duty of care on the SCP when marine fauna get trapped in these DEATH NETS.

Under Queensland and Federal law, whales are protected species. Authorities are expected to respond to entanglements and have control measures in place for emergencies, including at night.

THE RESPONSE TIME WAS SIMPLY NOT GOOD ENOUGH!

THESE NETS ARE DEATH TRAPS ABD THEY NEED TO BE BANNED FOREVER!!

Is there anyone out there who has marine mega fauna experience PLEASE.
If you know anyone with experience please pass this on immediately. 🙏

WHAT YOU CAN DO….call Shark Control Program Hotline

1. Call 1800 806 891 – demand urgent action and accountability.
2. Ask for confirmation in writing (email or SMS) that crews are responding.
3. Demand release of rescue footage or photographic proof.
4. Contact local MPs, media outlets, and wildlife organisations – pressure helps ensure transparency.
5. Document everything – names, times, statements, and inconsistencies for public record.

This is a matter of life or death. Please make noise and hold the program accountable.

KOALAS FACING YET ANOTHER FIGHT ON THE GOLD COAST!!!

A proposal for a multimillion-dollar expansion of the Dreamworld precinct on the Gold Coast faces significant environmental hurdles, including loss of koala habitat, planning minister Jarrod Bleijie has warned.
The development application, initially lodged in 2023, encompasses a tourism centre, residential homes, and a resort precinct across a 30-hectare site.
Bleijie announced earlier this month that the government was considering fast-tracking the project by using its "call-in powers", at the request of Gold Coast mayor
In a call-in notice lodged with council, Bleijie proposes the development should be called in as it involves the "economic and environmental interests of the state".
It also notes the site is "heavily vegetated with native vegetation and koala habitat trees".
"The proposal... represents a major tourism and economic opportunity, however there are significant environmental matters related to the proposal that require careful consideration," Bleijie wrote.

"In particular, the proposal includes clearing of native vegetation across the site within areas mapped for environmental significance, including regulated native vegetation and koala habitat."
An ecological report lodged with Gold Coast City Council as part of the development application reveals plans to remove 42,285 square metres of koala habitat, home to 1072 koala habitat trees.
"The proposed vegetation clearing on the subject site will require clearing of mapped koala habitat areas," the report reads.
"However, this clearing has been drastically minimised to only seek the removal of necessary trees from within the mapped area."

The theme park precinct would be expanded into a tourism hub with a resort precinct and residential homes across a 30-hectare site. (Dreamworld)
A koala management plan also lodged as part of the development application makes clear a result of the development is the "threat of potential impact and risk to koala that may arise or be temporarily intensified".
"The applicant is highly committed to ensuring these potential threats and risks have minimal impacts on any koala individuals that may be present within the site," it states.
It notes that no koalas can legally be removed from the site by human intervention and must be allowed to vacate the site without interference.
Koala spotters would be on site during the clearing process and any trees found to contain a koala would not be cleared, as well as any that overlap, until the animal had moved on.
Council will consider the call-in notice at the next full council meeting.

Redlands 2030 Newsletter Report on Ormiston College Koala Habitat Destruction.

Ormiston College koala habitat destruction

By Redlands2030 / September 13, 2025
More than five hundred people recently submitted objections to plans for Ormiston College koala habitat destruction to be approved by the State Government through a Ministerial Infrastructure designation.

These objections were made using a template provided by Redlands2030. A significant number of people included in their objection their own stories, thoughts, and comments explaining why they opposed what Ormiston College is doing.

We have extracted a small sample of the extra comments and publish them below.

Email these comments to your State MP and ask them to help protect the Ormiston College koala habitat.

Community comments about Ormiston College koala habitat destruction

“As a parent of former Ormiston College students I am dismayed by their plans to clear surrounding koala habitat trees. One of the reasons we chose the school 10 years ago was because it was surrounded by bush land that was home to koalas. We even saw koalas on the campus on occasion. However in the last 7-8 years the bushland has slowly been replaced with new dwellings. The college, who are educating our children, should be advocating to help retain the koala habitat zone instead of choosing to remove it”.

“As a past parent of Ormiston College, I am horrified that the College Council would propose a development that would result in the clearing of so much core koala habitat, have a deleterious impact on their previously high environmental credentials, and damage their reputation in the community. My children would proudly report having seen a koala in the Junior School courtyard. I would hope that the College’s Environment Club has registered concern at this proposed clearing. The school grounds are a vital wildlife corridor connecting bushland in the north and south and in the west and east.”

We have written to the Premier about this, and we also put in a submission. We must join together and support communities that are fighting to save koala habitat. 🐨

THE GLASSHOUSE MOUNTAINS ARE UNDER THREAT.

Did you know that a German multinational company, Heidelberg Materials, wants to blast down 66m at the Glasshouse quarry. This will mean the blasting goes down 48m below sea level.

Now some of you will be asking yourselves, a quarry, in amongst the Glasshouse Mountains? Some will ask, is that picture of the quarry and the mountains AI…. The answer is no, it’s real.

Heidelberg Materials are taking Sunshine Coast Council to the Environment & Planning Court.

Go to Save Our Glasshouse Mountains FB page and give them a LIKE. Show your support.

Earlier this week they held a public meeting about this new move by Heidelberg Materials.
If allowed to go ahead, the risk to mountain stability is real.
312 trucks per day / night will travel through Glasshouse.
Silica dust from blasting is already an issue; it will get worse.
Culturally significant, these mountains are sacred and the blasting is desecrating them, the land surrounding them and the wildlife. There are koalas on this land 🐨🐨🐨🐨

Can you imagine if a multinational company wanted to quarry next to St Mary’s Cathedral in
Sydney, or St Patrick’s Cathedral in Melbourne? It would never happen.

Claire spoke at this meeting, to the 130 locals who were present. As the Sunshine Coast Council Biosphere Citizen of the Year she expressed her support, and that of our organisations, to the cause. That we stand with the people of Glasshouse and oppose this eco-cide, environmental vandalism and the dishonouring of Indigenous cultural heritage (including the song line).
That we will speak out against the destruction of habitat and the wildlife suffering at the hands of greedy corporations.

Please share this terrible situation so that we can let everyone know that the mountains are under attack.
