IS THERE REALLY ANY HOPE FOR KOALAS IN SE QLD? $950k being given to a commercial entity by the Crisafulli Govt to ‘save ...

IS THERE REALLY ANY HOPE FOR KOALAS IN SE QLD?

$950k being given to a commercial entity by the Crisafulli Govt to ‘save the Coomera/Pimpana Koala Population Stewardship Partnership”.
The same entity is being paid by Transport & Main Roads to manage the koala population during the devastation known as the Coomera Connector using tracking collars and tracking ear tags.
TMR are a Govt body.

The question here is, is there a conflict of interest?
What exactly is $950k of public money going to be spent on?

Clamydial vaccines will be relatively inexpensive.
Many of the Coomera koalas are already dead.
Translocation fails 9 times out of 10.

Clamydial vaccines would be best given to koalas who are not experiencing any stress. Not koalas under immence pressure from land clearing, displacement, translocation.

In truly realistic terms, the Coomera koalas cant be saved. Koalas in SE QLD are doomed, particularly those within the coastal areas where hiways, mass developments and related infrastructure are being rolled out faster than you can say SAVE THE KOALAS. In the Deputy Premier’s own words “Build, Baby, Build.”
When he is also the Minister for Planning, our wildlife has no hope (Schedule 24 Planning Act).

If you dont believe me, take a drive around Morayfield. Once, an abundance of koalas called Morayfield home. Now it’s fast becoming nothing but bricks, bitumen and traffic lights. In the last two years, we’ve seen destruction beyond belief. Koala habitat bulldozed to make way for BIG AUSTRALIA.

NO GOVERNMENT CARES ABOUT OUR WILDLIFE.
There’s plenty of sugar-coated platitudes from Ministers, and they can all say the right words, at the right time. But do they give a rats?
NO.

It is successive Governments who have pushed our koalas to the brink, no one else needs to stand accountable, because it’s their planning exemptions that outweigh every single SEQ Koala Strategy WHICH IS MEANT to protect the species.

HERE’S TODAY’S ANNOUNCEMENT FROM QLD GOVT.

Queenslanders invited to shape new SEQ Koala Strategy
Public consultation now open for Queenslanders to have their say on the next South East Queensland Koala Strategy.
Crisafulli Government delivering $950,000 to save the Coomera/Pimpama Koala Population Stewardship Partnership.
New Koala Ministerial Advisory Council established to bring stakeholders together to oversee the strategy.
The Crisafulli Government is delivering a fresh start for Queensland’s environment after a decade of decline under Labor.
The Crisafulli Government is delivering a plan for Queensland’s future by launching public consultation on a new conservation strategy to secure the future of South East Queensland’s koalas.

Queenslanders are invited to have their say on the next SEQ Koala Strategy, which focuses on protecting and restoring habitat, tackling disease, improving monitoring and mapping, and working with local communities.

As part of the commitment, a new Koala Ministerial Advisory Council (KMAC) will drive practical action to keep koala conservation front and centre. Chaired by Environment Minister Andrew Powell, the council will advise on the Koala Strategy and its rollout.

By bringing together leading voices from industry, science, local government, property and conservation, the KMAC ensures decisions are informed, balanced, and focused on real outcomes for koalas.

The group will hold its first meeting in early 2026.

In addition, the Crisafulli Government has stepped in to save the Coomera/Pimpama Koala Population Stewardship Partnership with $950,000 committed for Endeavour Veterinary Ecology to continue life-saving work, including chlamydia treatment and monitoring rehabilitated and released koalas.

This closes the critical funding gap left by Labor and ensures koalas receive ongoing health support.

Minister for the Environment Andrew Powell said the new Koala Conservation Strategy was key to the protection and preservation of South East Queensland’s koalas.

“Koalas are part of who we are as Queenslanders, and we’re determined to protect them for generations to come,” Minister Powell said.

“Moving forward we are unashamedly focused on practical action - restoring habitat, tackling disease, and giving communities the tools to make a difference for koala populations.

“We’ve already committed $80 million to expand protected areas and wildlife hospitals, and this is the next step in delivering a better plan for Queensland’s environment.”

Endeavour Veterinary Ecology CEO Michael Hornby OAM said that he believes the Koala Haven project represents an important conservation milestone for the future of koalas in South East Queensland.

“It provides exceptional opportunities for ongoing disease management, koala health monitoring, and habitat protection – insights that will be valuable not only in Queensland, but nationally,” Mr Hornby said.

“Koala Haven is fundamentally about protecting and maintaining the long-term health of this population. It is a critical ecological connector, linking multiple koala habitats, with strong potential for future expansion to create a broader, interconnected network of healthy and sustainable koala populations.”

Public consultation open until 15th March 2026. To lodge a survey you can visit https://www.qld.gov.au/environment/plants-animals/animals/living-with/koalas/seq-discussion-paper

Behind the festive season, wildlife carers continue responding to situations where native animals are impacted by human activity.

Wildlife Rescue Sunshine Coast supports native animals affected by habitat loss and environmental disruption. When incidents occur, rescue organisations and volunteers work together to respond, provide care where possible, and advocate for greater awareness around protecting wildlife habitats. Stories like Seymour’s are a reminder of how vulnerable native species can be — and why ongoing support for rescue and rehabilitation work matters year-round.

If you’d like to support the work of Wildlife Rescue Sunshine Coast, one simple way is by entering our weekly draw. Entries start from $2, with proceeds helping us continue responding to wildlife in need — and you’ll also go into the draw to win $2,000.

22/12/2025

As we approach the end of 2025, and reflect upon the last 12 months, it’s again another year where there have been no wins for wildlife yet again.

I had so much confidence that the new State Gov’t would champion the environment and the wildlife that rely upon it….how wrong I was to trust that this would happen, and how disappointed I am that I was sucked in to believing there could be change.

What does 2026 hold for our wildlife?

I know WE cannot put any faith in the leaders of our country to do the right thing. Our Deputy Premiere in Qld has adopted a ‘Trumpesque’ phrase of ‘Build, Baby, Build.’ Those three words tell us all we need to know.

But, that was a not going to stop US, you and me, making a big difference in 2026! Because we will; we will put the plight of our wildlife in the National & Global Spotlight and bring attention to what’s happening here.

We will shine a bright light on the destruction of koala habitat, the slaughter of kangaroos and the extinction crisis no leader wants to talk about.

We will be shouting from the roof tops.
We will not allow government spin to dictate what we do with our precious country.
ENOUGH IS ENOUGH.

It’s not just our wildlife that are being treated as surplus to requirement. Farmers - family farms who feed this country are also on the chopping block - ‘green’ energy production is the protagonist this time.
And no one in leadership is talking about our country’s capacity to house, feed, and support a population that is growing rapidly. That has nothing to do with racism by the way, it has everything to do with TRUE SUSTAINABILITY.

We are not a progressive society, unlike Norway for example. We are a testing ground for global changes and it’s time we all stood still, rubbed our eyes, opened our ears, checked our bank balances, asked questions and woke up to the fact that we are being played as fools by our Govts, and our Govts have become puppets of the Global agenda.

It’s time for change.
We are a nation built out of resilience
We are so incredibly unique in so many ways. There’s no where else like Australia, and it’s time we let those in power know that we want her back!
We want our environment protected, our wildlife valued and protected, we want our farmers protected, our water security protected, our minerals protected, our ports protected, our values and beliefs protected, our way of life protected.

2026 will be the year you, me and all those who’ve had a gut full of broken promises, lies, destruction, and loss will show the world just exactly what it means to be Australian! 🇦🇺
