Please read this complete article on the financial losses made by the logging industry and how tax payers and koala are paying the price!

KOALA CATCH UP AS CHRISTMAS LOOMS – PRIME TIME FOR NSW GOVERNMENT’S ONGOING PROMISES OF KOALA EXTINCTION.

Where to start…Koala Crisis will make this news alert as brief as possible so you’re not drowned.

A Freedom of Information request by the ABC, forced Forestry Corporation NSW to reveal its Annual Report showing a loss of $29 million on its hardwood operations for 2023/2024. This is double the loss of the previous year.

This huge loss is subsidised by the taxpayer. In other words, you are being taxed by the government to pay for the destruction of one of our critical life support systems.

According to the North East Forest Alliance (NEFA) this loss equates to a loss of over $3000 for each hectare logged.

Over the last four years the Forestry Corporation has lost over $70 million logging native forests, been fined over $1.5 million for violating provisions of the forestry approval (which are extremely weak ) and continues to wreak havoc on our native forests and all forest species particularly the Koala and Greater Gliders.

Backing up concern over this significant loss, it was extraordinary to read the Independent Pricing and Regulatory Tribunal (IPART) report indicating the NSW Forestry Corporation was not even “ covering the costs of cutting down trees, delivering them to mills.”

“ In addition to timber products, native forests provide habitat for wildlife including threatened species. They provide water, environmental benefits. Forests store carbon which helps reduce carbon dioxide in the atmosphere to mitigate climate change. “

And just to ensure no one thinks that either the financial losses OR the criticism from IPART will make one shred of difference to the NSW Premier or his appalling environment minister Penny Sharpe, ex Four Corners journalist Stephen Long, now senior fellow at the Australia Institute published an article in The Politics detailed the latest NSW government madness.

He wrote: “Forests would effectively be sold to fund future fossil-fuel emissions – the source of climate change and the biggest threat to forests’ survival.

The quid pro quo for safeguarding native forests from the logging machines would be monetising the carbon.”

As the Premier continues to tease the public with the possibility of ending native forest logging, the real game is setting up the forests as offsets for carbon emissions by corporations, developers at the state, national and international level.

Stephen Long continues: “And despite the lofty claims about ending native forest logging, ( by the NSW government) it’s even possible the carbon credits scheme could open up scope to extract timber from previously sacrosanct national parks

The plan goes by the innocuous-sounding title of “Improved Native Forest Management in Multiple-use Public Forests”. It’s being developed by the NSW government, but it could apply to all states where logging in native forests on public land is yet to be banned: NSW, Queensland and Tasmania.”

Friends, sufficient to say that if this insane carbon credits scheme is approved at the state and federal level, you can kiss goodbye the native forests and national parks.

NSW and the Federal governments are in the hands of politicians led by Minns and Albanese, two men who should be charged with crimes against nature. Government leaders who DO NOT RECOGNISE THE ENVIRONMENTAL CRISES WE ARE FACING – NATIONALLY, REGIONALLY, LOCALLY AND GLOBALLY SHOULD NOT BE IN OFFICE.

AUSTRALIA IS RAPIDLY BECOMING A FOURTH WORLD COUNTRY RUN BY IGNORAMUSES – ( defined as “ a way to comment on a person’s ignorance and stupidity.)

Don’t be fooled by ANY propaganda coming out of the NSW and/or Federal government. Stand by for more crap over the silly season, the best time for the worst government decisions when no one is noticing.

Wishing us all a peaceful Christmas and a fantastic burst of energy in the New Year because we're gonna need it.

Please be aware that Koala Crisis rarely asks for funds, only in real emergencies. This means that you are getting the latest updates free of ongoing never-ending requests for donations. For those of you in the giving mode, remember your LOCAL organisations as the ones doing the battle. They need your support.

Thank you David Crisafulli MP, Qld Premier, for meeting with me today. Your perspective on the protection of our environment, and at risk wildlife, was so refreshing. I look forward to contributing, and collaborating in 2025.

Thank you also for stopping the destruction of the beautiful valley where the Burdekin pumped hydro was supposed to be built.
A win for nature ✅ a win for Qld ✅

Whilst there are no quick solutions, nor a one size fits all remedy, I believe under your leadership Qld (and Australia) has the best chance of:

1. Getting Australia off the Global Deforestation Front Line List, and,
2. Creating stronger protection frameworks for at risk wildlife by strengthening planning laws in favour of these species through the reduction of exemptions.

HAPPY MONDAY EVERYONE 🦘🦘🦘

Here are some beautiful photos from our memories collection.

Raising macropods is a wonderful, rewarding, sometimes heartbreaking vocation and once they’re under your skin, it’s impossible to forget them.

Take care on the roads and remember, be extra careful at DAWN & DUSK when roos and wallabies are on the move. If one crosses in front of you, slow right down as there is likely to be one behind it.

Enjoy the pics.

CAN WIND FARMS EVER COEXIST WITH KOALAS?

The Miles Government in QLD thought so when they approved the Tarong West Wind Farm project near Kingaroy. The project, due to commence construction in 2025 includes up to 97 wind turbines, each up to 280 metres in height, with associated hardstanding areas and access roads.

The 19,000ha includes Federally Mapped Koala Habitat.
Not only are koala found in this area, there are also Grey-Headed Flying Foxes, Glossy Black Cockatoos, and Greater Gliders.
Koala - Endangered
Grey-Headed Flying Fox - Vulnerable
Greater Glider - Endangered
Glossy Black Cockatoos - Vulnerable

Tarong West Wind Farm project site includes areas identified as Matters of National Environmental Significance (MNES) under the Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act 1999 (EPBC Act). Key MNES identified within the project area include:

Koala Habitat: "Approximately 13.47 hectares of koala habitat have been identified within the project site. To mitigate potential impacts, conditions have been imposed to offset impacts for up to 5.4 hectares of koala habitat, along with requirements to rehabilitate areas cleared during construction to the greatest extent possible."
(QUEENSLAND GOVERNMENT STATEMENT) However, the Ecological Report states there's 18.87ha of koala habitat.

Other Protected Species: "The ecological assessment for the project has identified the presence of several species listed under the EPBC Act, including the Greater Glider, Grey-headed Flying-fox, and Glossy Black-cockatoo. These species are considered in the project's planning to avoid, minimise, and mitigate potential impacts on their habitats."
(TARONG WEST WIND FARM STATEMENT)

According to the Ecological Report by 'EcoSure' "Regulated vegetation that is essential habitat for koala
is mapped on 4 properties within the site, totalling approximately 18.87 ha Within the planning corridor (including road reserves/easements and properties), approximately
7.25 ha of essential habitat for koala will be impacted.

18.87ha is a tiny proportion of land compared to the 19,000ha this project will be working on. But guess where the project cuts through....yes, right through the four indicated locations the site!

Tarong West Wind Farm is backed by $776.1 million from the Queensland Government’s Renewable Energy and Hydrogen Jobs Fund - unless the new Qld Govt overturn it.

WE MUST FIGHT FOR THE PROTECTION OF KOALA HABITAT BY GETTING PLANNING EXEMPTIONS QUASHED.

Federally Mapped Koala Habitat means nothing.
State Mapped Koala Habitat is even worse.

If you believe that legislation needs to be overhauled and amended, removing all exemptions (except in the case of essential firebreaks during bush fire events) please post YES below and SHARE this post.

There will be a CALL TO ACTION on this subject, but only if we can get the support and that means spreading this message as far and wide as possible; and that is up to you my friends.

PLEASE HELP, THERE'S NO TIME LEFT. IT'S NOW OR NEVER.

‼️BREAKING NEWS!‼️directly from Rainforest Reserves Australia

BREAKING: Approved Lotus Creek wind factory Central Qld has commenced construction. Beauty and biodiversity DESTROYED for intermittent electricity.
Gone are the trees, home to healthy koalas and greater gliders.
Gone are the priceless tree hollows that take over 80 years to form.
On the way to being gone... the thriving koala and glider populations that live there.
ASTONISHING: We visited Lotus Creek last year and saw, without much effort, koalas and greater gliders here in trees along the road. We saw a mother koala and her joey slowly moving through trees at midnight. We saw two greater gliders peering back at us from tree boughs. (The pics are below! ) This was one of the most unforgettable and remarkable experiences of our whole lives. How can anyone destroy this paradise? This special place where endangered species live peacefully and flourish.
Habitat fragmentation, pests, weeds and edge effects will destroy this once intact and extremely precious high elevation wilderness. Spinning wind turbines will further dry the soil. Massive roads will be carved into mountains and erosion will destroy the earth.
Yes, we're angry. And you should be too. We are losing our ever-diminishing precious nature to a wind factory.
