Y’all I need your help! I’d like you to meet Socks our newest foster baby!
Socks is a 8 week old Great Pyrenees puppy. He is the sweetest, kindest, nicest dog in the history of ever! Not too mention his fluff! He’s also an orthopedic disaster. I am not 100% sure about what exactly happened but I do know that he was hit by a car and someone left him to die on the side of the road. Someone - with good intention picked him up and - took him home. Unfortunately they didn’t take him to the vet and waited a couple of days to drop him off at the shelter, where I volunteer and met him. The amazing staff Williamson County Regional Animal Shelter took great care of him but the x-rays didn’t look good. My friends from TGPR-Texas Great Pyrenees Rescue jumped right in and took him into rescue. The very next day we brought him to see an orthopedic specialist with Central Texas Veterinary Specialty & Emergency Hospital!
Here is what we know today - Because he didn’t get imitate care, his injuries (hip, tibia and femur fractures) started already to heal on its own - not in a great way. When this happens, surgery is not an option right now.
These are the bad news BUT I have a lot of good news to share with y’all:
1. Socks can walk, he loves to play, and he is housebroken (which is a miracle) - and his surgeon told us to keep him moving everyday!
2. Socks is NOT in pain - otherwise I would let him go in a heartbeat.
3. If he keeps doing great like he does right now, his surgeon will do his first surgery when he is about 8-10 month old (one side at a time). It will take time as I know very well from my own dog, Tilda but it can be done!
IF for whatever reason Socks quality of life would decline we would let him go in peace of course but for now……he is doing great! He figured out a way to get around, he is eating/drinking/ playing as much as every other poppy! He is HOUSEBROKEN - he does his business outside all by himself (which is great news). So yeah - his time is not up! We do what we can and try to get him where he needs to be. I know things can change quickly but I am very positive that he can have a healthy long life! We did it before - it is not our first rodeo, friends! Thanks to y’all.
And this is where we need YOUR help. Vet care is crazy expensive these days. Understand that this isn’t the fault of vets and they aren’t being greedy. Their costs have exploded too so I get that. In the back of my head, I am thinking that what we need is a lot of money to get him fixed. Socks will need at least one FHO (hip surgery) and repair off his other leg. That means crazy level of expensive in the 5 figure range!!
We certainly can't save them all, but we can save the one in front of us and that is our job. Socks is the nicest sweetest dog and he deserves a pain free and happy life.
So, if you’d like to donate $5, $10, $15, $20, $50 or any amount actually to help us help Socks, you can do so here: https://www.paypal.com/donate/?hosted_button_id=E5Q3XB6PJX5W2 Thanks as always for your donation no matter how big or small and all the support!
