How hot is too hot?

It's summertime and our roads and sidewalks heat up quickly!
If it is uncomfortable to hold the BACK of your hand on a surface for 5-7 seconds - it's TOO HOT! What can you do?

- Avoid midday walks
- Walk your dog on the grass
- Get a pair of dog booties
So, how do you know if your dog's paws are being burnt? Some dogs will not show visible signs for pain, so be sure to look for that following:
- Chewing or licking their feet
- Excessive tapping
- Limping
- Pulling if you direct them to walk on pavement or other surfaces
- Blisters on the paw pads
- Cracking or obvious damages on the paw pads

IF YOU SEE any of the above, discontinue your walk and carry your dog back (if possible) and contact your vet for assistance ASAP.

There is a huge increase in lost pets during July 4-6. If your dog is not microchipped, you may want to do that now.
