TRIGGER STACKING – WHEN BEHAVIOUR HAPPENS “OUT OF THE BLUE”

We’ve all had those days when nothing seems to go right and one frustrating thing after another happens to us, leaving us feeling wound up, stressed and ready to explode at the next unsuspecting person who dares to ask us something.

This “unsuspecting” person may think we have a serious behaviour problem or need anger management therapy, when the truth is that we’ve just had a really bad day or even a few bad days and don’t usually behave like this at all.

Dogs are no different and a behaviour that seems completely out of character or happens “out of the blue” is often caused by “trigger stacking”.

A trigger may be anything that increases a dog’s stress levels and has a negative impact on their emotional, mental or physical state.

These may be small things that we may not even notice or seem insignificant to us, but they are all adding to an increasing “stack” of events that may culminate in out of character behaviour.

When stress levels reach a certain point, the next stressful event, however small, may cause an explosive reaction that is completely unexpected.

Instead of just focusing on a particular behaviour and seeing it as a problem that needs to be prevented, take a step backwards, look at the bigger picture, look at events, circumstances or environmental factors that may have played a role leading up to that behaviour.

Being aware of potential stressors and allowing your dog time to decompress, relax and unwind for a few days will often mean the difference between “normal behaviour” and a behaviour that seems completely out of character.

The money from baths and nails booked from now until December 6th will be donated to help support these families. It is $50 to sponsor each child, if you’d like to donate in general you can bring it to daycare with you or use the QR code on this flyer to make your donation.
You’re welcome to schedule a bath and nail time whenever it is needed, this month I have bath and nail week set from Nov 17-27th so we can have them fresh for Thanksgiving.
If you wish to shop for the family based on their wish list, please message me and I can get you into contact with someone that can help you go that route. 🥰🐕💜

Thank you Canine to 5 family for support for this event. We will for sure be helping again next year 💜
There is an event coming up for Christmas, I will share those details sometime in the next week. I know it’s not normal dog content, but helping provide assistance to local families (who also have pets) is something we are passionate about. 💜

Stress and Reward-seeking Behaviors By: Eileen Koval, CDBC, CBCC-KA, CPDT-KA, MSc A major frustration for some owners is their dog’s endless energy. They repeatedly walk/run them, play fetch for hours, give constant enrichment activities. Yet, the constant high energy persists. They never seem to ...

Couple of things!
The business phone is FINALLY transferred over and the 815-633-7777 number can now be texted. The last few weeks we had so much trouble moving it from a landline to the cell, but it should be good to go now.
I apologize if I missed any calls or couldn't get back to you that way in the last few weeks. 1) it was a whole thing 2) I am genuinely go go go and make time like once a week for phone calls so I will work on getting better about that since the phone is back in working order!
We FINALLY have a new card reader on the way - it might be another week or two, but I am hoping by November I can start accepting cards again :)
I think that is all. Happy Monday everyone
