Like many other snake/tarantula enthusiast, my interest in them began when I was about three. My mom will testify to that as she lost quite a few canning jars to my spider collection. I had swiped more than a couple dozen of them to display every spider you can imagine on the counter top! Another favorite thing I loved doing was putting my ball python around my neck to pass out candy on Halloween.
I remember my younger brother and mom coming home from trick or treating having been warned not to go to our house as there was a guy there with a snake around his neck. This surprised me at how fearful people were of a snake that wasn’t even two feet long! I continued to learn all I could about tarantulas and snakes, and I found it was a shame that so many people were afraid of such amazing animals. I have a strong interest in educating people, particularly kids, about these animals to help alleviate their fears. It often amazes me when doing a presentation to grade school kids how receptive they are to learning about snakes and tarantulas, while the adults in the room tend to hug the walls. It feels great to help a young student who may be initially afraid overcome their fears. I had one little girl totally afraid of my snakes saying “I will never touch one.” By the end of the presentation she was comfortable enough to pet them, told me she was no longer afraid of snakes and wanted one for a pet. It is interesting to see how a little knowledge can overcome fears and create interest. Currently I am working on growing my snake collection in particular. Ever since I saw my first baby ball python head sticking out of the egg in the incubator, I was hooked. I knew I wanted to keep breeding these snakes, challenging myself to see what new combinations I can make. They become like works of art with their beautiful colors and patterns. Now that I have poured all my efforts into these animals, I am so fortunate to be living my dream by turning this interest into a business. I am hopeful that you will visit my page often to see where my passion for these animals takes me.
