While not pet related… this nature post is interesting IMO. This is a flowering milkweed bush… one of the preferred plants that monarch butterflies need to feed on as they make their giant migrations across Nirth America. The nearby botanical gardens encouraged AZ residents like us to keep these plants on our property, as they are key in assisting these butterflies in their migrations. With all the shifts in weather patterns, it is comforting to see these butterflies, and nice to play a tiny role in helping out nature. There are apps that you can download, where you can and should post sightings so that the numbers and locations of these butterflies can be categorized and tracked to hopefully assure that they are not dwindling in numbers. I wanted to share a recent comment posted on my TikTok page about pet food myths. Please try to refrain from believing people who give out bad advice, claim to be pet experts when they are not, criticize and make false claims about veterinarians, particularly when they say we are not trained in nutrition. If someone is trying to get you to buy something that they profit from with fear based and guilt based advertisements, it should be a red flag. There are no shortage of people who are wildly misinformed, stand to benefit from making false claims, often motivated to make a profit off your well intentions to be good pet parents.

My niece’s dog Zuma just drove across the country, and is staying here a few days. Add to that excitement, thunder and lightening cascading off the mountains, and we have the makings of a stressed out dog. She refused to eat… so i did what i have done for years when greeting house call patients… i sat on the floor beside her and ignored her, listening to some music on my phone. Lo and Behold… she chilled and ate her dinner pronto😍

Happy Howl is one of MANY boutique diets that market themselves with misleading claims and verbiage. These multiple Reddit comments from users seem to indicate that they do not refund unsatisfied customers. Their ingredient list is a prime example of ingredient lists NOT being the same as Nutrient profiles… and why. Next post will goni to more detail on this fact, written by a veterinary nutritionist. It is a helpful guide on how to better be able to read, navigate and understand nutrient labels and why some diets are certified by the AAFCO and meet WVASA standards in nutrition while others do not.
I am not exclusively picking on Happy Howl… there are many other diets I have featured, but this suspicious ad popped up on my feed and the red flags in their marketing quickly led me led me down the rabbit hole of easy checks on their composition and customer reputation, prompting me to share it with you. Remember:Ingredient lists do not equate with nutrient profiles.
Know what you are buying. Question marketing schemes when it comes to feeding your pets.

More info that all pet parents should be aware of.
again…. you are not a bad pet parent if you feed canned or kibble format dog food. Do not least fear and guilt based marketing convince you of that. Not everyone can afford homemade, frozen, fresh, raw or subscription food plans, AND the supplements necessary to make them balanced which is more often than not needed to balance them. Again: ingredient lists do NOT equal nutrient lists and do not always add up to a proper balance for your pet, his life stage, or any chronic diseases she might be suffering from. lhealth

Buddy Guard is a product that is marketed with false claims, unsubstantiated by any science, and the recommendation to use this instead of removing tumors in dogs is unconscionable. I received an email request to recommend the product, and be compensated for those recommendations. My response was a vehement no… and i shared it in this post. Nevermind the fact that many of their ads are AI generated with a false “floating head” of a faux veterinarian…. so bogus it is laughable… or it would be if people weren’t falling for their ads instead of getting proper veterinary treatment.
