This is a photo from two years ago, when my senior, arthritic dog India went for her first “walk” in her stroller.
She had disc disease, cancer, and heart disease as well… all limiting her ability to walk for more than a couple hundred feet.
She missed her walks, and so did I.
Enter her stroller! It changed both of our lives and we enjoyed 8 months of sunset and sunrise strolls until she passed.
If you see people with their dogs in strollers… and think it’s a spoiled dog who is lazy, or pampered…. Consider rethinking. So many people judge when they see this situation.
But sometimes…. A dog stroller is a chance to bring back joy to a dog whose physical abilities have declined… but who’s heart and soul wants to be out doing what they have done their whole lives.
I will never look at a senior dog in a baby carriage the same again…. And never, ever walk by without stopping and chatting. My heart breaks a little each time… remembering my sweet India.❤️🐾

Loved reading these wonderful and thoughtful reviews. Have a read… in case you are thinking of reading my book: Tales of a Pet Vet. Stories from the Clinic and House Calls.
You will laugh much more than you will cry.
You will learn a bit, but not be “hit over the head” with technical info and medical terminology.
Overall, these stories will resonate with pet lovers…. As it spans the entire life experiences from puppy and kittenhood(as well as some “exotic” species) that pet parents will relate to. If you have read it, or do… please consider sharing a review as they are super helpful.❤️🐾

This a watercolor painted bookmark of a yellow Labrador retriever. Someone commented to me that Labradors do not look like that… that this dog is too THIN.
I would say: this is how Labradors should look. The dogs she has seen most certainly overweight.
A very common battle veterinarians like me have engaged in for decades is explaining to and convincing pet parents what is an appropriate weight for their pets. We call it a body score.
I have shared many comparison posters showing what is too thin or too heavy. Still…. The struggle continues to be real as I try to convince clients that they are not overfeeding, or that showing love with too many treats.
Overweight pets have shorter lifespans, and suffer more with extra weight on their joints as they age.
It’s not an opinion… it’s a medical fact. Period.

A recent, large-scale review of raw pet diets revealed the presence of these bacteria… all of which are potentially dangerous to animals and humans.
I will leave this list here for you to Google the severity and specifics of the diseases they cause.
Several reports confirmed these pathogens, as well as Salmonella, in home prepared raw foods as well.
I can supply you with sources of this data and studies if needed.
Other than direct handling of the food, exposure to people can occur when handling stool containing pathogens shed in the stool and further contaminating the environment.
And… alarmingly… many have been found to be resistant to antibiotics.
And… research has shown that routine cleaning of dog bowls from pets fed raw food may NOT adequately kill the Salmonella present.
After being washed in a residential dishwasher or after soaking the bowl in a 10% bleach solution for 5 minutes, Salmonella was still cultured from at least 67% of the bowls.
Lastly, the first human death related to exposure to raw pet food was reported in 2018.

Had a lot of fun meeting dog lovers at the American Legion in Amagansett for the dog show fundraiser for the Blind Dog Foundation of Long Island. So many giant dogs and mixed breeds, as well as purebreds. Several requests for adding breeds to my watercolor notecards … so during this dreary weather I am painting some German shepherds and Siberian Huskies today. Any other requests? All for a great cause…. Proceeds benefit the , which trains dogs to assist the blind.
And… there is an open bar. I can’t think of a better way to spend an afternoon… with dogs an open bar😉.
