It’s been fun coming back to classes after a much needed break. These babies are SO cute. The first video the pup could only spin in one direction. Your dog can have a preference for left and right! Hint: it’s also because you may have only trained to one side. Practice both ways so your pup can be proficient with either direction! Here’s a session I did with my puppy to groom her with a comb I present my chin rest hand signal so she knows I’m coming in and she rests her chin in my hands. The eye contact means I can keep going. When she moves her head, I don’t force her to stay in my hand, but she brings it back to rest her chin. I let her sniff the comb, and she lets me quickly comb out her wiry hair on the top of her head, which has always been an issue for her. I start my training sessions with a quick warmup: sit, down, high five, shake. Then we got into LEAVE IT. It’s my favorite. It’s also super important to teach cuz it could save your dog life. My mechanics weren’t clean and I didn’t prepare my setup properly. But look at that eye contact she kept giving me! And. She was only 11 weeks old. Last week. She’s twelve weeks now and mastered all her skills. HAHA! Just kidding. It’s a work in progress. It always will be. I’m happy with our progress and I kept the training session short.
