Totally agree…also the reason your dog destroys things isn’t because it’s naughty…it’s because it’s anxious, it’s afraid, it’s unstimulated. Humans need to understand dogs more…and less shouting, shouting at dogs makes the issues worse, dogs don’t understand. 😢

TWO BEAUTIFUL DOGS BUT NOT ONE ADOPTION APPLICATION.

Sam and Evie came to Hope Rescue together after their previous owner had sadly passed away and no other family members could care for them.

Sam, a 9-year-old Staffie and Evie, a 6-year-old Lurcher are an inseparable pair who’re looking to be rehomed together. Currently living in foster care, the two have settled in well and are ‘the perfect house guests’. But, Sam and Evie are still looking for their forever home.

Although both Sam and Evie are loving and affectionate dogs, the reality for them is that they’ve not had any applications for adoption, which makes us so sad.

Just read that 2 more dogs have died after going in Anton Lakes…so this is not a ‘one off’ case anymore! However, it still may not be blue algae as this causes wildlife to die and the birds and fish seem to be OK?!?! So it could be deliberate, or something else entirely.

Failing the council closing the lakes during this hot spell, dog owners need to take responsibility. DO NOT allow your dog to swim in still water, lakes, ponds, etc. Still water stagnates and the sun creates algae, this algae can be highly toxic to wildlife, dogs, cats and humans.
A running river should be safe…but better still, fill a small bowl in the garden or keep them cool indoors with a cool mat, fan or simply wet a tea towel and lay it over them. Put ice in their water bowl, the myth that dogs die or get bloat from drinking cold water/ice water is bo****ks. Obviously, if your dog is suffering from actual heat stroke..don’t mess around with ice or water…go straight to the vets!
Best advice is: DO NOT WALK YOUR DOG BETWEEN 10am & 6pm in this weather, they will NOT die from missing walks.

Beautiful Bella's foster mum is off on holiday in a couple of weeks so we are looking at having to move Bella to a new fosterer. Normally this would not be an issue but is not at all fair on a blind dog. We really need someone to offer to foster her with a view to adopting her so she doesn't have to move more than once please. She is a lovely girl just reactive to other dogs in her home . In a dog free home she is no bother at all. She is a normal mad cocker she just happens to not be able to see . She has had both eyes removed. She is not in any pain and she needs no medication

Bronte & Henry are a pair of 11 year old lab crosses looking for their forever home together! They adore each others company and are always happy to greet everyone! The pair love their food, especially biscuits and will need a calm home where they can also enjoy the outdoors! They can live with children 10 years+💛

I know we’re all banging on about the heat…but also be careful about excess water ingestion.
Basically, think of your dog as your toddler…they can’t make their own decisions and will do everything; eating, drinking, sunbathing, swimming, to excess…you, as the ‘parent’, have to be in control, at all times…and education is key. 🥰 xx

Please! Please! Please! Keep your dogs safe. Walk early, walk late…or just don’t walk..there are so many other ways to stimulate your dogs, simple training, indoor or sheltered garden play…a dog will not die from missing a few walks…but it could die from heatstroke. 😳

***Please Keep Dogs out of the Water at Anton Lakes***

We have received a report of a dog sadly passing away following a walk at Anton Lakes over the weekend.

Though no cause of death has been confirmed with the council, following feedback from the vet the water at Anton Lakes is currently being sampled to make sure there are no signs of dangerous blue-green algae.

Blue-green algae occurs naturally in bodies of freshwater, but some kinds can be toxic to humans and lethal to animals. Whilst we await the results, the council are recommending that people and pets keep out of the water. I don’t yet know when we will have the results but I will share the information as soon as I have it.
