I'm a freelance Copywriter and Proofreader, but as much as I love making lovely words I also enjoy making lovely things. So, I decided it was time to set up my own Etsy shop and divide my time between creating with words and creating with my hands. The question I'm asked most often is 'What's an Inside Out Oatcake'? Well, here in North Staffordshire we enjoy floaty, fluffy fried oat-based delights

a bit like a pancake but better. Except, unlike many of my true Stokie friends, I enjoy my oatcakes folded the wrong way round – with the dark side on the outside. Apparently, this is unheard of in Stoke-on-Trent and it's singled me out as an oddity. I think this insight also reflects the things I make quite well: familiar, homely but with a slight edge that sets them apart and makes everybody look twice. I make everything myself to my own designs, and take great pride in trying to create items that will last well and survive life in a real-world setting. I really hit the ground running when I finished maternity leave at the start of the month, it's been lovely reconnecting with clients and seeing how they've weathered the storm of the pandemic to grow their businesses and dreams.

Lockdown has definitely slowed down work but thankfully it's not completely vanished! I loved writing three blogs for a lovely customer yesterday 😄 I always learn something new with every project.

Lockdown = more food photos. My sewing space is now an at-home office and classroom, so I hope you're enjoying these food photos instead. Our latest addiction is watching 'Strictly Dumpling' videos on YouTube, imagining we're at the amazing looking buffets too. Last night we watched videos of 'hot broth' buffets in New York. I dreamt of noodle soups. Today I raided the fridge and cupboard and made this. It was delicious.

How's everyone coping with lockdown? I'm still working on proofreading projects, as well as demolishing Stilton at every given opportunity. Stay safe, stay healthy, and remember it's OK to stare aimlessly at your phone for hours reading total rubbish if that's what gets you through the day. ❤️

Know the symptoms and if in doubt see your GP - and if they fob you off keep going back until they listen (which goes for any medical concerns you may have, from a woman who's had four colonoscopies in the last two years, procedures that have almost certainly saved me from the misery of bowel/colon cancer)
