FIDO's Companion Inc. Weekly we rescue dogs as well from many other rural county shelter in mid and southern Ohio and KY before they are put to sleep.
is a small non-profit 501(c)3 organization operating in Lorain County made up of volunteers who perform vital functions in the process of rescuing animals. We primarily rescue dogs from the streets in our County and County Dog Pound or ill/injured dogs coming into our Vet Clinic from Cuyahoga County. We secondarily assist with taking in homeless stray dogs and funding the spay/neuter of homeless d
ogs and cats for other independent local rescuers and vet clinics who take them in off the street and work to rehome them. Lastly, we help fund the Spay/Neuter of dogs that low income owners cannot afford. FIDO's Companion rescue strives to find new adoptive families willing to make a lifetime commitment and be lifetime companions for each dog we rescue. Our focus is on the QUALITY of life we provide to one canine companion at a time. FIDO's Companion believes that the value of what we do is not in the Quantity of animals we save, but in the Quality of the new life we provide to them. We also know we cannot rescue our way out of pet overpopulation, therefore, we work in our rescue and with our community to ensure spay/neuter is achieved for animals we come into contact with or are made aware of needing altered. We also strive to educate the public including school age children about humane treatment of animals and the importance of spaying and neutering pets

Meet Jed!
Jed is a 3 year old, 70 pound lab mix who is fully vetted, crate & potty trained.
Jed went through the prison training program so he’s perfectly trained and ready to go!
Jed also loved doggie day care and is moving to a foster home next week. He would love a foster home while he waits for his forever family to find him.
He’s very social with people and dogs and would love a family to call his own! No small animals or cats

Blu is a 9 year old bulldog mix who is fully vetted and potty trained.
Blu is a smart, active boy who is happy to go for walks, explore that back yard, or snuggle on his dog bed or the couch. He loves chasing a ball and is learning to fetch and retrieve.
Blu walks well on a leash, knows "sit" "stay" "wait" "back" and "down" "leave it". He walks nicely on a leash, waits to go out of the house and come back in. He loves to watch the world go by out the window. He doesn't like his crate but is not destructive when left out of it. He needs a 6' fence so he can zoom. We think he'd do better with older children as he sometimes gets excited and may knock into little ones.

Meet Baby!
Baby is a 4 year old, 40 pound mixed breed who is fully vetted, crate and potty trained.
Calling all Drama Queen Lovers! Baby was a stray on the streets of Cleveland and now in our care she has shown us her dramatic side!

The punches always come during Emergency Hours. Our boy Danny boy who had to have the FHO surgery now has Parvo. He is being hospitalized as I type this. We also got another sh*tty blow today that we were denied for the Grey Muzxle Grant. This grant supports programs that help senior dogs. Spending over 100 k last year on seniors we thought we would be supported but we’re not. So please donate to Danny Boy if you can. I expect cost to be over 3k and we pray for his survival.

Meet Melvin!
Melvin is a 10 year old guy who is fully vetted and crate & potty trained.
Melvin has a clean bill of health and is still full of s***k! He loves playing with his foster canine, rolling on the carpet to scratch his back, and taking naps.

Phoenix is a 55 pound, 10-12 month old chocolate lab/retriever mix (hes brown! Not black!) who is fully vetted and crate & potty trained.
Phoenix is very dog social and loves playgroups. He’s still a puppy, loves balls and chew toys. He’s fun loving, likes to play with his his people or snuggle on the couch.
Phoenix is a very well mannered boy, knows ‘sit’ and takes treats gently. He needs a confident dog sibling to show him the way and a fenced yard is required. He’s learning the ways of the world and loud noises from kids may make him nervous.

Debo came to us from a local shelter and is in a foster home where he loves his k9 siblings. He is very gentle when he wrestles with then and they love chasing each other around the yard.

Taking care of 20 plus palliative care dogs and all their medical needs taxes our financial resources. Some of the expenses we plan for like monthly medication and monitoring tests at the Vet Clinic. Others are totally unexpected and always end up on Emergency hours which means the costs are more than on normal hours. 2 seniors lately have had a tough go of it. Miss Ellie spent the weekend at the vets which we believe now all came down to a case of gastroenteritis. She could not hold anything down or in. She was hospitalized on IV’s and of course we ran blood screens and X-rays to monitor things. Miss Gladys has been back and forth on emergency for labored breathing and fluid in her lungs. The right combo of meds takes care of this but diagnostics are expensive. If you can donate to the bills we have racked up for these 2 dogs we would appreciate it. Over 2k was spent. Trust me these senior ladies Thank You.

Meet Frasier!
Frasier is an 10 year old, 50 pound gentlemen who is fully vetted and potty trained.
Frasier still has energy and loves to play and run in the yard. He’s also sweet, loves to snuggle, and would love to be in his retirement home in 2024!
Frasier likes other dogs and all people. He doesn’t have any mobility issues and can jump in the SUV without a problem. He is calm around well-mannered kids. New Years fireworks didn’t bother him either! He is cat-approved!

Meet Edgar!
Edgar is an 8 year old, 62 pound husky mix who is fully vetted and crate trained.
Edgar came to us from a rural shelter. He has completed treatment for Lyme disease and has low thyroid- his medication costs about $10 a month.
Edgar loves to romp with other dogs and graduated from our trainer perfecting his doggy social manners. He is calm and quiet in a crate, rides nicely in the car, and was a perfect gentleman at the vet. He isn't vocal like your typical husky.
Edgar recently participated in one of our adoption events. He was the PERFECT patio guest!
Edgar is dog and cat approved!
From Edgar's foster mom:
He’s doing great! Eats at meal times with no issues, goes in his crate perfectly, has not had even 1 potty accident in the crate or in the house (god bless)
He looooves to be outside and go for walks. He runs to the door all the time to try and get outside. We haven’t had any crazy husky escapes so that’s a bonus!
He has not tried to hurt the cat but he doesn’t chase him. He will come to me and leave the cat if I call him but I’m a little iffy on his energy around the cat. I think if unattended things could escalate. Once he gets the cat cornered or on the table the cat beats Edgar up and he just stands there and takes it or runs away. So I don’t think it’s a murderous chase but more of a playful chase. But he’s a big dog
so accidents can always happen.
He loves soft toys and to be petted. He’ll sit by my side all day for pets.
We’re going to try bath time today and see how that goes but so far he’s awesome!

Miley came to us from our local shelter where she wasn't doing well in that environment, she's shy and sweet and the shelter life scared her. She is a special needs little girl b/c she has neurological issues which cause her a funny gate- she is happy, bouncy, has great mobility! Mandie is a little shy but thrives with a k9 companion. She does great with well socialized dogs who aren't pushy. She loves walks, hiking and cuddling and is a great guest at breweries. Mandie is friendly, gentle, and affectionate. Mandie would love a fenced yard and a doggie playmate. She knows sit, down stay, come, place and paw walks great on a leash! Before we get to this week's note from our fearless leader, Mama Fido, I'd like to add a personal note - as I'm posting these pleas for donations - I'm also volunteering in our local pound, shown here. I've personally met and worked with the dogs in this video - a very very SMALL sampling of the dogs helped and saved by Fido's this year. I cannot stress enough how necessary an organization like Fido's is to our community - to the lives of these dogs that truly would have no hope otherwise. Please - look at these faces - and the faces we post week after week - with new hope in thier eyes and love and appreciation for being saved. Every little bit helps - please donate if you can.
