The flies are just awful right now! Poor Crouton. We made a fly mask out of a door screen for him. 😂
From unwanted and once returned shelter dog... to a permanent sanctuary dog.
Junior is living his best life with us!
Hay hay hay! 80 bales for $950. Thank you so much to our monthly sponsors!
Happy Fonzie Friday!!
We're so excited because we're in for a cool down after today. We're so exhausted from this ongoing heatwave!
With it being Fonzie Friday, we are asking for additional canned dog food for Fonzie and his friends.
CAN you help us?

Maggie, our senior babydoll sheep, approves of the new sun shade!
Woot woot!! Thank you so much for the shade sails!! I'll properly acknowledge those of you who sent them in. But for now, we have one up!
We have very strong water pressure. When the water runs through the hose, the hose will kick out of the water trough. So, we use a pool noodle to keep the hose in!
It's pretty amazing to see the difference between Mariah and Tommy!
We believe Tommy is about 14 years old. He was from a hoarding case in Riverside County in 2021 where the 80 dogs were fed spaghetti out of kiddy pools. Years if eating carbs rotted out most of his teeth. We had about a dozen of them extracted after we pulled from the Riverside County Animal Shelter.
Tommy's frail body is now needing acupuncture and cold laser therapy every other week. We think without it, he will not be able to get up and walk.
He does still get around quite a bit at the ranch. And even this morning, I heard the pigs squeal and came over to Tommy harassing them! Well, after all... he's part Cattle Dog!
If it's not foxtails.... it's star thistle!
Star thistle is prevalent in our area. It's a nasty weed that springs up in the summer and dies off in the winter. Our goats, sheep and llamas will not eat it. The plants become huge and have pokey spikes that hurt when you touch them!
Instead of mowing them down, we are looking for a safe and permanent solution ... which is to weed them out by hand.
Is there anyone local to us (Vacaville, CA) who would like to get rid of these weeds for us? We do have two nifty weeding tools that make it really easy to pop the weeds out of the ground.
This is a great way to help the animals, but not necessarily be in the mix with them.
If you would like to help, please email us at sunshine@luckyonesranch .com
For those new to our page... please look at Mariah. She's the white and black Australian Cattle Dog.
How old is she? Put your guess in the comments!
Here's Elliott back at home!
💗💗Thank you so much for showing so much love for Elliott. If you missed our previous posts, Elliott was admitted to SAGE in Concord, CA for massive swelling in his chest.
Over night, they did a preliminary exam on Elliott and did an ultrasound scan and cytology to confirm it was an abscess. (Yay! Not cancer.)
In the morning, another vet cleaned, drained and flushed out the infected wound. He also placed a drain in Elliott's chest to keep the wound open, so that it will continue to drain..essentially we want Elliott to heal from the inside out.
He's on antibiotics and pain meds. He will need an additional recheck by our regular vet in a few days to make sure his wound is healing properly.
We were so fearful that Elliott's cancer had returned, but in this case, it appears either a foxtail or a cut/dog bite was the cause of the abscess. The vet did find a scratch on his chest, so we think he may have had a little tussle with another dog.
Elliott may be a senior at 10 to 12 years old, but he's very spry and he's a Cattle Dog, after all!
We are firm believers that everything happens for a reason. Unfortunately, there was an incidental finding when they performed a brief scan over Elliott's abdomen. An incidental finding is when something extra is revealed by a test.
In Elliott's case... there is a suspected mass on his spleen. We will have to schedule a radiologist to perform an ultrasound and we presume he will need to have his spleen removed.
It's just been such a roller-coaster of a day. It's already been helluva week with us just making sure the sanctuary animals survive the intense heatwave.
And now, Elliott's health is worrisome. At least he's home and doing well. Thank you again for the donations. We raised more than enough to cover Elliott's emergency vet visit, but now, all of the 'extra' will go towards the additional vet exams.
We will keep fighting for Elliott and get him the best tr
Sooo hot!🫠🫠🫠
Gotta water those volunteers! 🤣💦💦💦
It's showing 103 degrees outside, but in front of the Big Ass Fan... it's only 83 degrees! Yay !
