For months, Berry and I have been searching tirelessly for a new rescue van. Today, we’re taking a big step—going to see a potential replacement. Honestly, I’m trying to stay cautiously optimistic, but it’s hard not to dream. After over a decade of transporting countless lives to safety, I know exactly what I need in a vehicle:
Safety & reliability (non-negotiable)
Efficient A/C and heat (Florida’s heat can be brutal, and our rescues deserve comfort)
High roof to stand up and move around
Comfort for both humans and pups

Our last van was a lifeline for so many animals. It wasn’t perfect, but it was ours and I loved her. I cherished every detail about it—the reliability, the space, and even those beautiful tires that Jennifer McCormick and her wife generously sponsored. I babied those tires; they still look brand new as it was towed away.

I’ll never forget when the A/C broke three weeks after we bought it. Dawn and Mike Batten rescued us with the repair, making those long, hot Florida drives manageable again. That van held so many memories.🥹

We bought an RV years ago, and I had big dreams of converting it into a mobile adoption vehicle, the repairs it needs now are simply too much and the time to repair everything would take too long. We need something now.

Losing the van after an accident a few months ago has been an emotional roller coaster. But every ending makes way for a new beginning, and I hope this next chapter will bring something even better—a van that not only meets our needs but also makes rescue work fun and exciting again.
🙏 Please keep us in your thoughts today as we take this next step. If you know of anyone selling a safe, reliable van that could be a perfect fit for our rescue mission, please let us know.
Thank you to everyone who has supported us on this journey—whether through donations, kind words, or simply sharing our story. We couldn’t do this without you. 💙

A huge shoutout to Michelle from Victoria’s Secret at the Orange Park Mall for spoiling our rescue pups with this bountiful basket of treats! 🦴✨
Our furry friends are beyond thrilled—and, let’s be honest, maybe a little too excited. 😅 After going outside to handle their “business,” they know a treat awaits them. Now, they’ve decided that frequent trips outside are an absolute must! 🕒🐶
Michelle, you’ve filled their tummies and made potty breaks the hottest ticket in town. 😄 Thank you for your kindness and helping us keep those wagging tails happy and healthy!

Rest Easy, Sweet Butler
On February 23, 2010, I witnessed something extraordinary—my first experience with the miracle of birth. Butler, along with his siblings Sammy, Max, Harley, a little female named Niki, and one other brother who later found a home in New Jersey, came into this world. His mother, Sugar rescued from a high kill shelter, gave birth in the most peaceful setting I could provide, comforted with warm towels and gentle massages. From the very start, Butler was special (they all were)

Watching Sugar's pups grow was pure joy and excitement. They each developed unique personalities, and one by one, they found their forever homes—except for Sammy, who stayed with us because he couldn't get along with other dogs. Butler, however, was adopted as a young pup. Four years later, when his adopter became pregnant, he was returned to us.

When Butler returned to the rescue, he was untrained, lacked basic manners, and hadn’t been walked before. Despite my initial hesitation about his original placement, I knew he deserved a second chance. With patience and love, we worked through his challenges. He became a gentle soul who walked beautifully on a leash, accepted treats carefully, and got along with almost every dog. His only preference? No dominant personalities—Butler just wanted to play and have friends.

For years, Butler attended adoption events at Petco. Despite his sweet nature, no one ever seriously considered him as part of their family. A kind woman even sponsored his adoption fee, but still, no takers. Over time, I realized that the bustling chaos of adoption events was too much for Butler, so he stayed home, happy and content, and always had playmates.

One moment that stands out is Butler’s heartbreaking farewell to his brother Harley. In a photo, you could see Butler standing beside Harley, a glimmer of a tear in his eye. It was a testament to his loving, empathetic soul.

At 14 years old, Butler still had a spring in his step. His coat had turned white, but his youthful spirit was always present. Then, suddenly, everything changed. Butler stopped eating, and though he drank water, it was as if he no longer remembered how to eat. On Saturday, his condition worsened. Despite our frantic attempts to find immediate care, time slipped away. One clinic even refused to help, they were too busy/couldn't lift over 30 lbs despite hearing his cries in the background.

Berry had no choice but to go to the emergency vet in St. Augustine took him in and treated him with the dignity and compassion he so deserved. We believe Butler suffered a stroke/seizure. It breaks my heart that he had to endure those last moments without the ease of immediate care, but I take comfort in knowing he was loved deeply by everyone who met him—friends, volunteers, and of course, Berry and me.

Butler was a happy dog with a heart of gold. He loved all the friends who came and went in his life, always welcoming them with his gentle demeanor. He was a good brother, a loyal companion, and a beloved member of our rescue family.

Run fast and free, sweet Butler. Go find your brother Harley and your momma Sugar. We will miss your joyful spirit, but your memory will forever live in our hearts. 💔

🌿✨This majestic owl has become a part of our routine, and is incredibly observant—it seems to know when Wednesday will be outside. 🐾
Her safety is always my top priority, and I stay within arm's reach, hyper-vigilant to ensure Wednesday stays out of harm's way. Predators like hawks and other owls have made six attempts on her, but I'm determined to keep her safe.

It’s a good reminder for all of us to stay alert and aware of the wildlife around us. Predators like owls and hawks may be stunning to look at, but they’re always on the hunt.
Stay vigilant out there, especially if you have small pets or animals. Let’s coexist with nature while protecting our little ones! 🌍💚

🙏Hoping for a Miracle for Sweet Sasha🙏

In 2013, a very special dog named Sasha came into our lives through rescue, stealing hearts with her resilience and spirit. She was eventually adopted at one of our Old Navy adoption events in Orange Park, where we also met Dawn—someone who would go on to become part of our rescue family. ❤️

For over a decade, we’ve stayed connected with Sasha and her amazing family, watching her thrive in the love and care they’ve given her. This family holds a special place in our hearts, and we are so grateful for their kindness, dedication, support, and the love they’ve shared with Sasha.

Recently, Sasha suffered a stroke. While this news is difficult, we are grateful to share that she is now home, surrounded by the same love and care that has carried her through the years. Sasha has always been a fighter, and we are holding onto hope for a miracle for this incredible girl. ✨

We ask for all the prayers, positive energy, and healing vibes you can send her way. Let’s come together, just as we have for so many others, and show Sasha how much she’s loved. 💕

Thank you for being part of her journey and always standing by the dogs we rescue. Let’s keep hoping and praying for Sasha. 🐾

Made a comment about dog chow and thought I would elaborate. I believe in the healing power of good nutrition:

Dog Chow and similar low-cost commercial dog foods are often considered nutritionally inadequate for dogs due to their ingredient composition and processing methods. Here’s why:

1. Low-Quality Protein Sources

Dogs are primarily carnivorous and thrive on high-quality protein. Many inexpensive dog foods like Dog Chow rely heavily on by-products and low-quality meat meals instead of whole, named animal proteins (e.g., “chicken” or “beef”). These by-products can include parts of the animal not suitable for human consumption, offering poor digestibility and limited nutritional value.

2. Excessive Carbohydrates

Dog Chow often contains a high proportion of fillers like corn, wheat, and soy, which serve as cheap calorie sources. Dogs don’t need large amounts of carbohydrates and may struggle to process them. Excess carbs can contribute to obesity, inflammation, and digestive issues.

3. Artificial Additives

These foods are typically packed with artificial colors, flavors, and preservatives, which serve no purpose for your dog’s health. These additives can contribute to allergies, intolerances, and long-term health problems.

4. Lack of Nutritional Density

While Dog Chow may meet the minimum standards set by regulatory bodies like the AAFCO, it often lacks the high-quality, bioavailable nutrients dogs need for optimal health. Feeding such foods can lead to deficiencies over time, especially for active, aging, or special-needs dogs.

5. Potential Toxins

Cheaper dog foods are more likely to include ingredients contaminated with toxins like mycotoxins (from poorly stored grains) or even dangerous additives from poor manufacturing processes.

Healthier Alternatives

To ensure your dog gets proper nutrition:
• Choose whole, named proteins as the first ingredient (e.g., “chicken,” “turkey,” or “beef”).
• Look for foods with limited fillers like sweet potatoes or oats instead of corn or wheat.
• Opt for brands that avoid artificial preservatives and colors, using natural antioxidants like vitamin E or rosemary extract.
• Consider adding fresh, nutrient-dense foods like cooked lean meats, vegetables, or high-quality supplements to enhance their diet.

Switching to a higher-quality diet may improve your dog’s coat, energy levels, digestion, and overall health, often saving you money in vet bills over time!

I don’t claim to be a professional dog nutritionist. I just love dogs and feel most issues can be resolved by good nutrition.
