Sun's out, buns out! Binks and Benjamin sharing their breakfast bluebs 🫐🐰
We can't wait for dry, warm, sunshine-filled days! Binks, Benjamin and Piglet are enjoying some strawbs and kale in their shed on this rainy Saturday 🍓 🌿
My veg patch is actually safe from cotton tailed predators this year! Today they enjoyed Kale, Cavelo nero, Oregano and Mint 🌿
People often ask me if boys can bond because some breeders will tell you 2 boys will "fight to the death". Here's a video of Benjamin (the 1.2kg mini lop) and Binks (the 6kg giant French Lop) during their bonding process💙. Unless cuddling causes death, these 2 are just fine! The key to bonding is neutering, living next to each other to smell and see each other, waiting 6 weeks to actually introduce and then gradually introduce on neutral territory when they stop showing as much interest in each other through the bars, with as many herbs and veg as you can distract them with. Despite his size, Binks is the resident softy... He chases magpies away, scares off cats, loves unconditionally, gives nose kisses and he let's the other rabbits use him as a pillow... He's a true gent 🥰 (and yes, Binks enjoys playing football🤣)
Mr Binks and Benjamin just wanted to let you know they are indeed still eating... Just incase anyone was worried they'd wasted away over Christmas 😅🥕🥬
It's nice to see some dry weather again isn't it? Today was so mild it was lovely to see the buns enjoying being out and chomping the grass. Our rose bush and apple tree had a good trim from Binks 🌹🍎
While I was packing their shed with straw for warmth thinking the evenings are getting colder, these 3 were choosing to play outside in the rain... 🤔😂
Winnie has access to a 12ft grassy enclosed outdoor space but since Bandits passing, shes choosing a bit of peace and quiet in their hutch (which is thermal wrapped and waterproof☺️). I've spoilt her with extra veg, herbs, treats and cuddles. Whenever you have 1 rabbit on their own and think they're happy, wait until you see them with company ❤️ Please keep your rabbits in 2s or more 🙏🏼
Does anyone remember us rehoming Winnie in August? 4 days after she arrived she gave birth to 4 beautiful little babies (that was a big surprise!). Sadly 1 died shortly after being born but the other 3 are thriving. Winnie wasn't such a big fan of them after a few weeks so they've been hand reared since they were 3 weeks old, bottle fed on warmed goats milk and a whole lot of cuddles.
They are almost 2 months old and fully weaned onto Timothy Hay, science selective Junior and a few tastes of Mint, Parsley and carrot tops.
Here's a little video of 1 of the babies having a bedtime cuddle to warm your hearts on this rainy evening... ❤️
Here's a little video of when Winnie met Bandit 🥰 my grumpy little old man has finally got a spring, or binky, in his step 😍. And the bum twitch from Winnie is rabbit language for being super happy 😁
Let's talk 'golden nuggets' aka poo!
When you're checking on your rabbits daily, look out for their poos. "Golden" poos are the perfect colour and consistency! Rabbits who have adequate room to exercise and a healthy high quality hay diet will have golden coloured poo that feels dry and, when squashed, turns straight back into hay!
The darker, wetter the poo, the worse the diet and lifestyle. Poos that squash into an actual 'poo' consistency are more commonly from rabbits who either have low quality hay (if it's not green in colour, there's no point in feeding it - brown / yellow hay is dead), low quality pellets or muesli (feed a high quality fibre pellet like Science Selective) or don't have enough room to run around and get their gut moving.
Go and check your rabbit poos...
Tips on improving your rabbits health:
Feed high quality green hay - we recommend Science Selective or HayBox.club
Scatter feed a small amount of high quality pellets such as Science Selective
Allow plenty of space and opportunity for rabbits to run. Rabbits need to constantly move and eat for optimum health. Ditch the shed, convert a play house or shed and either attach a permanent enclosed run or fenced off outdoor space.
