Our mission at Grateful Rescue save the lives of all animals that find their way to us. We give them a home, where they will stay unless they are adopted or fostered. We create a home setting for them, evaluate their temperament, and match them with suitable adopters or foster care. They are not caged, they are only inside at night and during extreme weather in a climate-controlled living space bu
ilt especially for them. They are spayed or neutered, microchipped,up to date on shots, and heartworm negative. Most importantly, all are loved, safe, well-fed and cared for.
CHAMP IS THE BESTEST BOY! He was neutered today. When they brought him back out, he looked so lost, until he saw me waiting for him. The smile hasn’t left his face since. He has so much love to give to the right person! GOOD BOY CHAMP!!!

REINTRODUCING TANNER! You might remember heartbroken Tanner, who came to us after his human passed and he cried and mourned for days.
Sweet Tanner is a 10 year old Norwich/Yorkie mix. He’s been in a home for 6 months and was returned due to being nippy with a particular child. He does like other children, and is non reactive. To be safe, he won’t be be available to families with young children. Very loving boy. Very loyal. Weighs about 15 pounds.
Gets along with dogs & cats, but not as playmates. He is aloof and ignores them. He prefers a lap and human to hang out with. Total couch potato. Needs work on potty training. Potties when outside, just needs consistency
Tanner needs you. If you cannot adopt him, please consider fostering. This sweet boy is tired of heartbreak!

Grateful Rescue has exciting news to share. Our sweet bonded Doxie sisters, Cagney and Lacey, have been adopted by sisters Rebecca and Dawn from Norfolk, Virginia. Grateful Rescue Volunteers Lisa and Cindy met Rebecca and Dawn at the Indy Airport and the adoptions were official. Cagney and Lacey have 4 Doxie siblings waiting for them in Virginia. Thank you Rebecca and Dawn for traveling to Indiana. Cagney and Lacey will be so loved and we are so “Grateful” for these wonderful sisters. We love you all.

We are in need of puppy foster homes for 3 adorable 10 week old poodle puppies! These sweet babies are tiny, weighing around 5 pounds each. Foster homes will be needed for around 4 weeks while we complete these boys vetting. We can place all 3 boys in the same foster home or place 2 together and 1 in a separate foster home . Fosters will need a fenced yard, a vet reference for any current or past pets, and lots of love to share. Do you remember Cagney and Lacey; 2 of “Ann’s Angels” who came to Grateful Rescue in early May? Well these two sweet girls have been in a wonderful foster home for the past few months, but their foster is needing to return them to us due to her changing schedule. We are desperately searching for either a long term foster home to take these cuties in, or an adoptive home where they can relax and blossom in. They are bonded, having been together their entire lives, and we will not separate them. Cagney and Lacey are Mini Dachshunds weighing under 15 pounds each, are potty pad trained, crate trained, and are very sweet! URGENT PLEA! Where are our rabbit people?!? We need emergency foster at the least! This poor rabbit was left behind in a move-out and “set free!” NEVER LET A DOMESTIC RABBIT LOOSE! THEY WILL NOT SURVIVE!! Located in New Castle. We can bring it to you! The Good Samaritan who saved it from the yard has dogs who are interested. We need to get it to safety immediately. Let us know if you can take it! We will take a quick application over the phone and move swiftly. We just need to verify interested caretakers have the little guys best interest in heart!! UPDATE ON ROCKIE!!! he is doing so well! He’s put on healthy weight, He’s energetic, loves to play with his footballs, and would thrive in an active household! Could play fetch for hours! This tiny baby is Grace, and she has a sad story to tell. She was found, all alone, in a kind lady’s front yard, as a newborn and didn’t even have her eyes open yet. A mama cat and other kittens were nowhere to be found, and so Grace was placed with a foster mom, Chelsie, who has experience with bottle feeding. Grace is now 4 weeks old, has continued to grow stronger, and is loving the attention from her foster mom and 3 year old human foster sister. Grace is very affectionate and will be ready to find her forever home in just a few weeks! UPDATE ON DIESEL! Day 4 after heartworm treatment. Diesel is doing well! He’s enjoying the treats and toys sent by you! Although he loves to run, he is accepting leash walking at potty time. He has a nice little set up to keep him cozy for the next couple of months. His heart is healing, and we are grateful!

We are excited to welcome Bella to Grateful Rescue! This pint sized princess is every bit as sweet as she is cute, and barely tips the scales at 4 pounds. She is a Yorkie, between 9-10 years old, she loves everyone she meets, is good with other small dogs, is great on a leash and enjoys going for walks, and likes to snuggle in your lap. What more could you want? Bella will need work on potty training in her new home, but she’s smart and eager to please. She will be ready to go home after 8/24 so get your apps in early since tiny dogs tend to get adopted quickly. A fenced yard is required for Bella. Apply to adopt at gratefulrescue.org
ANN’S ANGEL DAIL CAME TO VISIT!!! Looking dapper and spry, DAIL stopped by to let us know he won a photo contest and he wanted to donate his winnings to Grateful! We loved seeing him! He remembers us well and trotted around like he owned the place! We are so grateful. We love you, DAIL! THANK YOU!!
CHAMP & JAZZY!! THEY ARE HELPING EACH OTHER! Champ and Jazzy are keeping each other great company! They love each other. They are next to each others’ living space and even give kisses through the barrier! Champ continues to accept more visitors without fear and Jazzy continues to NOT SPIN! HOLD YOUR HEART WHILE YOU READ JAZZY’S STORY. She’s a miracle in progress! Jazzy has been fighting kennelitis. Simply put, kennelitis means kennel crazy. When a dog suffers from kennelitis, it’s usually a death sentence because the stress has caused a dog to lose its mind & the first indication is the act of spinning in their living space. In past shelters I’ve worked for, the second the director said a dog was spinning, it was usually euthanized shortly after.
We got Jazzy out of a shelter where she was suffering from kennelitis and put her in foster. She continued to spin, even in wide open spaces. We were truly saddened that it had taken her over, even while free to roam. The foster was temporary and her time there was done. What would we do?
Today we brought her to Grateful, but were searching for a trainer, a doctor, anything to help fix this. But surprisingly, when she came into the room, she didn’t spin! She likes it here. It’s our first day, but she hasn’t spun once. We are astounded.
Prayers for Jazzy that she continues to love it here and forgets all the spinning behavior & continues looking forward. We are so grateful she actually has a chance. We love this beautiful little girl and we’re fighting for her sanity. So far so good!!!! Welcome to Grateful, Jazzy!

CHAMP UNLEASHED!!!! After two days on leash, Champ has given me faith that he won’t bolt from me when time to come in and has no interest in trying to get out of the fencing!! In fact, his leash often drooped because he trotted right alongside me. He chased a toy and ran all over the yard , taking in all the smells. I ALSO GOT MY FIRST KISS FROM HIM! A quick lick on the nose, but I’ll take it!!! Again, I say, GOOD BOY CHAMP! You are doing SO WELL!!! ❤️❤️🩹❤️

TODAY IS THE DAY! Diesel begins his heartworm treatment today! It’s bittersweet because thank goodness he will get rid of them, but after being chained for years, now he has to be cooped up for a few months through 2 treatments and a surgery. Thanks to the supporters who sent crate licks, puzzles and bones, he will have some very enjoyable things to do while on lockdown!

CHAMP IS INDEED A CHAMP!! He braved his very first vet visit, received vaccines, microchip and heartworm test pokes! Then when we got home, HE ATE A BOWL OF DOG FOOD! He’s never had dog food before, and has been refusing to eat it, but today, he licked the bowl clean!!

NO HOMELESS DOG IS SAFE ANYMORE! We are increasingly seeing small dogs & purebreds on euthanasia lists due to the pet overpopulation & packed shelters. It’s at epidemic levels.
SO WE ARE MAKING SPACE FOR MORE! We have added additional units that will allow us to house up to 15 littles! THANK YOU MIDWEST HOMES FOR PETS, who stepped up and supplied all the crates, bedding and toys to help these new residents feel secure & at home! Now we can save more. 🥹

MEET PEPPER! We took Pepper off of a kill list, getting to him only 2 hours before his deadline! He’s been in quarantine and is now ready to meet the Grateful community! He’s a very sweet little guy. His only quirk we have seen is that he is extremely barrier reactive. No crating this guy, he gets too upset. Out of a crate, he is a totally different dog. A happy bundle of love! He’s a lap dog and a big kisser!
He’s so sweet, so small. I am so thankful we got him in time. Extremely thankful to the two volunteers who IMMEDIATELY stepped up and drove 3 hours each way to get him!
Vetting this week, neuter asap and he will be ready for a home! Follow Pepper’s journey from death row to a life of love!!!

After 2 days with her new trainer, Alessia has determined that Thelma’s problems are 1)Jumping on people 2)Anxiety 3)Nervous peeing 4)No concept of personal space or boundaries 5)Resisting crate training.
