When is hot too hot?
It's that time of year again ☀️
The weather is warming up and we need to make sure our animals stay safe.
First things firsts, your dog does not need walking everyday. This is especially so in hot weather. If you're going to a fete, fair, fun day, whatever it is, think about if prolonged exposure to warm weather is safe for your dog or if actually, they'd be more comfortable at home, in the shade, with a big bowl of water 💧
Access to drinking water at all times is great 👍
Paddling pools are great 👍
Super early or really late walks in the shade are great 👍
A wet towel on the floor for them to lay on is great 👍
Fans to lay in front of are great 👍
No high intensity exercise. Your dog may seem like they want to keep chasing a ball, when really they just don't know how to stop, until their body forces them to, by which time they could already be in a serious state of heat stroke.
Now.....dogs in cars 🙈
Dogs can travel, no problem. But if it's not necessary, then why put your dog through it 🤷🏼♀️
If you have to, go out and air that car out first or get that air con on for a few minutes beforehand.
Don't be a di****ad and "pop into" anywhere for "just 5 minutes" whilst you leave your dog to cook in the car.
Windows open, air con on..... still a nope! What if something happens to you and you can't get back to the car? What if your air con fails? What if that shady spot you parked in is in full sun 10 minutes later? 5 minutes is never 5 minutes.
Just leave your dog at home or take them home first and then go back out.
Also if you find a dog in a hot car that you feel is in danger and are unsure what to do, call 999. They will either talk you through what to do, or send a unit out to help. If you feel the dog needs immediate help, do what you feel is necessary to gain entry to the car, get the dog safe, and then get evidence, video of the dog, witness names and details.

Dogs suffering heat stroke should be quickly moved to a shaded area, given cool, not cold, water to drink slowly. Do not pour cold water over a dog suffering heat stroke. Call a vet and get advice.
