One final post. I just wanted to wish all of you well and to tell you how much I have enjoyed getting to know so many of you and your kiddos. We have shared laughter, some tears as many of us have sent some kids to the bridge, and hopefully all learned a little something. My love and regards to everybody and all my best to Holly! Signing out-Angela
So we have had some bad anxiety days with Pumpkin. During the day is worse and she shakes like this while wanting to look outside or looking at the door. I think part of it was the wildfire but as of yesterday it was almost contained. We just don't know what she went through so maybe during the day when the monsters that made her a puppy mill dog that's when they were active and most of the abuse occurred. Maybe she is watching for them. I don't know.
I have new calming chews coming and they are late of course. And we had about 6 days of her not wanting to eat but her appetitie is coming back. She ate last night and this morning.
We still go in for another check on Thurs and will have them run labs to check for anything else.
Then to top it off there are some issues in the rental house I live in that changes things for Pumpkin. So I may be seeking a new place to live soon.
Thank you as always for your love and support!
Released kitty a little early.
Update
So this video is from last week. I have kitty home and back in the spare bathroom right now. She did well but her "feral" tendencies definitely came through with the team at the clinic. I have her resting in a covered large crate so don't want to disturb her with another pic. Will get one in the next couple of days after I release her.
So...she was pregnant already as I feared. I will let you read between those lines. As usual a few of us left to clean up the messes of the masses. But it is for the best. She will stay in the bathroom until noon tomorrow and I will let her go. Her ear is notched now too. Will try and feed her later but she is pretty mad even though groggy from the surgery.
Thank you again to Missy, Melissa, Mary and Lisa for donating. I have enough little extra to get another 1.5 months of food to feed her and some other strays. I may ne grabbing one more to get in for a spay as well. Will keep you updated! #spayandneuter #adoptdontshop
My girl Pumpkin has a severe yeast infection in both ears with angry angry inflammation. My vet said that is probably five years worth of infection in her ears and could be part of the hearing loss. It's unfortunate it was missed by the vets that fixed her at NMDR but I know they are treating hundreds of dogs at a time when they bring van loads in. She got a major cleaning/flush in both ears, steroids and cortizone and good greasy gooey meds we have to do 2x a day. They had to shave her pretty little ears but it will grow back so that is the least of the worries. She did so good at the vet and we got a hamburger so she doesn't associate only bad things with the car as we have only been on one little trip since the couple hour drive home on gotcha day. For the most part she seems to be feeling decent so I can only imagine what a spunky girl she will be when this ear thing is cleared up!
We have just been working on consistency and routine the last few days and had a few breakthroughs today. She is now coming up to me again and....she actually played with a toy vs her interactive treat games and bully sticks. My bestie got her this stuffy with a heartbeat and she grabbed it off her bed and started shaking the crap out of it lol.
We also did a follow-up with NMDR today and provided all the details and updates. Ups and downs and the best tips I could provide.
I think the biggest thing is routine and definitely engaging them the best you can as they had no stimulus and of course super healthy food as these dogs will be more prone to health issues. Like us what you put in their bodies makes a huge difference. Then of course love and patience patience patience.

Everything has been about Pumpkin so wanted to share some Molly time. Got her some fresh toys and this one is her fav.
But we have a new problem. As I mentioned when Pumpkin is outside the stray cats are all around her, playing with her leash and for the most part she ignores them. I have never seen her bare her teeth as far as I know.
She has done it twice to Molly now. Once yesterday when Molly was just approaching her to sniff and she was laying down she showed teeth and growled. I thought well maybe that was because of me scaring her when she was sleeping and I got bit. But then tonight I was on the floor and opening a new computer I got. Pumpkin to my left about 4 feet away and Molly to my right and right next to me seeing what I was doing. Pumpkin bared her teeth, growled and started moving towards Molly. I very sternly and loudly put a stop to that and told Ms. P ABSOLUTELY NOT. She immediately stopped and backed up.
Now I have left them short times together to run to store. Molly is usually on the back of the couch looking out the window and there hasn't seemed to be any issues. I don't know if this is some jealousy arising or some general aggression. Molly hissed at her. I really hope this will not be an issue and we can work through this. I don't get it as Molly messes with like not at all. The outside kitties are all up in her grill. This is the one issue that would possibly make me take her back to the rescue which I of course do not want to do.
I will be monitoring it very closely and keep you updated.
Sorry about my house looking like a tornado gone through. Have only had one day off in 2.5 months. So here are some updates for little Pumpkin. We have had a rough few days as my house is so big and the yard is so big and after having to treat her ears...she was refusing to come in as much as she really wanted to. Was trying everything recommended with treats snd calm voice etc. I finally had to get my sweet neighbor to help as her ears where out of control and she was miserable and I had no choice but to trap her and stress her out really bad. We finally got good drops down into the ears and I had to put a leash on her to start getting used to it and in emergency or for more treatment so I can grab her. She does great in the mornings with going out to go potty then coming back in for breakfast but mid morning and afternoons she just gets paralyzed with fear coming back into the house. Now with having to trap her with the leash I think she is figuring out it is better to just come in and not freeze. Per one suggestion from our good friend Kim at Lemon-Aid we got a heartbeat device I can tuck under her blanket and also as you see in this video an interactive toy/treat dispenser and she is using it!
I just want to love and hold her so bad but with the setbacks of having to trap and treat her a lot of the trust is gone. So now I have to work on earning it back. I promise to give her all of the time she needs. And if after several more weeks if the trust doesn't start growing again I will spring for a trainer that specializes in traumatized dogs. We got this baby girl! As long as it takes.
Ms. Pumpkin is doing great. Her poo is looking clear and healthy now with sticking to the best of foods and treats. We have moved out of the initial confinement of a spare bedroom during the day out to the living area but she was like...well what now? What do I do? I explained to her she now gets to lounge on soft beds and snooze in the sun and run around the yard and be happy. So then...though I showed her the first few days she was still to stressed but showed her a bully stick again..and she gets it now! We have toys too but she isn't too sure yet but I think that is coming too.
Well somebody found their voice. She barked for a good 15 mins lol. So we have started working on quiet training. She did NOT like the show I was watching and started fixating on the tv.
As far as the blood in her stool I think I figured it out. She was having a bout of IBS as there was also mucus in it. After talking to the rescue and some other people with the same experience. Though I have started her on super healthy fresh food, I was giving her crappy Oscar Meyer turkey bacon and I think that did it for treats and training. Not a ton but enough to flare her up. So giving it one more day and already only saw a spot of blood today, if still present tomorrow I will get her in.
It is all a learning process for me as well!
She went pee and poo outside this morning. We got a brushing done as I happened to have the right brush on hand and we spent some time outside. It is beautiful outside so I wanted to get some seeds started and didn't want to get soil all over inside. As you can see my sweet neighbor came out with her little Phoebe and Pumpkin's tail is perking up when she is running around exploring!
It has been a long day but Ruby (fka Mittens) is now home. She was very frightened when we first got in the car and we had a 2 hour drive. But by about 15 mins she had stopped shaking and was definitely getting more curious.
So I have this bucket seat deal I can strap to her harness but she only made it about 20 miles in that then wanted out. We pulled over and I since I was told she really hated the carrier when then the groomer had to put her in one ( makes sense she is a mill dog, but I did bring one just in case) I decided to move the bucket seat and just let her ride shotgun with me holding her leash so she couldn't move around too much. That was better. She could still stand up and see out the window, she kept making eye contact, and she didn't pee or poop once! Then the last 45 mins she finally laid down and snoozed for a bit!
So we got home. I have an extra bedroom set up with a kennel and bed if she wants to use it, several dogs beds, pee pads everywhere and she already had her first dinner.
We have been outside a few times to try and potty and she hasnt gone yet! But it is chilly and her sweet little self has already put her legs up on me twice to pick her up which tells me she is starting to feel safe!
So back in the room the windows are a bit weird. There are new blinds but the landlord broke them installing them and she kept trying to climb to a mirror because she thought it was a window
So I rigged the blinds ups and she again put her paws on my leg to lift her on the bed so she can see out the window! She is now trying to snooze and decompress. So quiet here.
Molly is not too sure yet but Ruby has seen her and didn't even react really so we are off to a good start!
More pics and video in the comments!
I bought some new stuffy toys for the pup..somebody found them though. Molly is having a blast with them lol.
I know a few of you have been patiently waiting for this update.
As with so many things in life, you think one thing will happen then something else happens instead.
So I got to NMDR today and it was a bit crazy. I guess they were doing some sort of community meeting so over 100 people were there and no parking. It was a pretty drive though. They are about 45 mins east of Colorado Springs for anybody that knows the area.
I told them my first 3 choices with Baron being number one. Unfortunately they didn't have him marked as not available to see today as he is in a foster with some intensive rehab. It was like ok...I did have a 4th choice up until last night and that was Mittens.
I got one on one time with all three and without writing and encyclopedia here..guess who I chose? Mittens! She was the most inquisitive. Took the turkey bacon I brought. Kept coming back up to me. And even kinda stood up on my arm as I was sitting on the floor. Sweet little Journey and Amber were not fixed yet and marking all over (I guess breeding females tend to do that too) while Ms. Mittens didn't mark/potty once! I knew going into this that I would have to potty train so that wasn't the biggest issue. It was who seemed to be a little further along in their progress and it was definitely Mittens. That is why they do the lengthy interviews they do!
Then, they were like you can take her today! She has already been fixed and is ready to go. I said crap..I'm not ready lol. I was told you can't take them the same day. They said most of the time that is true but she is ready. So anyway they did a dental and had to pull 7 teeth and she was already missing 9. But she has plenty of good ones left. She does have a pretty stressed knee so definitely will benefit from some glucosamine and learning how to walk on a leash.
Thank so much for the love and encouragement. There a more pics in the comments!
****UPDATE 1/9/23***
I know it has been a little bit since I posted on these dogs. Unfortunately I don't have a ton of new info as there is an open investigation. We believe that the dogs locked in the back have been removed but as you can see there are still at least 6 dogs loose and one is very pregnant. I asked for an update but was told they could not give any info because of the investigation. So I told them we will just keep uploading images and video to the cloud storage folder I created for them and they said that is helpful. Wish I had more to share but something is being done just not sure all what and we are still supporting the loose dogs with food.
