Litters 'n Critters Rescue Society is a 100% volunteer, all breed, dog specific, foster based rescue located in N.S.
Litters ‘n Critters Rescue Society is a not-for-profit, 100% volunteer all breed dog rescue located in Nova Scotia, Canada. We do not receive grants or funding; we rely solely on fundraising and public donations to help offset the medical costs and any other costs we incur for our rescue dogs. We do not have a shelter; we run solely by the foster care system. Our foster families are thoroughly scr
eened, very experienced and well versed in assessing their foster dogs while they are in their foster homes. Because we run by the foster care system, we can not take dogs with aggression issues, we take the safety of our foster families and their personal pets very seriously and we have to protect them at all costs. Without our foster homes we will not have a rescue. We rescue dogs of any breed, size, age and s*x. Saving the life of dogs is our passion, we do not shy away from medical cases, we will help dogs who need surgeries, those who don’t and dogs who find themselves in need of a new family due to unforeseen circumstances. Please contact us at [email protected] if you need us to help.

Just an FYI… we will be posting the basket pups for adoption very soon so we can get a head start on applications. The Mom is a Maremma and is absolutely beautiful. We will get some pictures of the parents if we can. They will be getting their vet checks and vaccines on July 12th and can go after July 13 pending no issues with their vaccines. We will post all the information in their adoption post. ❤️
We don't know the details but if it was intentional stupidity, the owners need the full extent of the law to come down on them.
New Brunswick SPCA Animal Protection post:
NBSPCA is reporting one dog fatality from HEATSTROKE
Please, please, please, leave your pets at home. Do not leave them in the car. Do not bring them running or biking with you. It is extremely dangerous to your dog.
Today and tomorrow are going to be sweltering hot. Please keep your pets inside, out of this heat. They don’t need to go in the car for anything…unless it’s a vet appt or maybe to go swimming…put yourself in a fur coat and sit outside or in the car and see how it feels.
Enough said? For most people it would be but there are still people who will leave their dogs in a car in this heat. What do you think a good penalty for someone who does that should be? Seriously, what should be put in place besides the small fine that’s in place now?
We are so very sad to let you know that sweet little Taco has passed away. As in our previous post about him, he came into rescue with several unknown health conditions and he didn’t have much time left. His amazing foster Mom wanted to keep Taco until it was his time to go to the Rainbow Bridge and in his very short time with his Mom and extended family, they gave him so much love and showed him that there are good people in this world. He got to run through the grass and snuggle in the arms of people who loved him so very very much.
We are sending out so much love and such a heartfelt thank you to Taco’s wonderful Mom, and everyone who had a hand in looking after this little boy during his final days.
Please post a thank you to Taco’s mom as a sign of support for helping this little boy.
Rest peacefully little boy and run free at the Rainbow Bridge 💔💔💔
It’s going to be a hot week. Please keep your dogs home, inside, where they will be cooler and safe from the hot sun. Walk them at night when the pavement won’t burn their little paw pads. And for the love of God, don’t leave them in a vehicle.
When you’re a puppy and you get tired, any place is a good place for a bed 😁❤️
Happy Father’s Day from our wonderful boy Trooper George ❤️🥰
He picked the flowers himself!!!
A tisket
A Tasket
7 puppies in a basket 😊
They will be ready for adoption in 2 1/2 weeks. They are Maremma mix babes
Thank you to everyone who came to see us at the Doggie Expo today. It was so very nice to see you and have some wonderful chats. It was super awesome seeing some of our beautiful rescue dogs and seeing how happy they are.
Thank you Joanne for all of your help today. You made it so much easier sista. ❤️
An important and sad post:
We posted the other day that we took this little boy into rescue. He went in for his assessment today and it is bad news.
So… not only were his nails so long that they curled around and some were stuck into his paw pads, but he has a very badly collapsed trachea, his teeth are extremely infected, he has anemia, and he has a nasal fistula which is a hole in his gums to his nose caused by infection. I am so sad to let you know that this little boy has days or if he’s lucky, only weeks left in his life. He will spend the remainder of his life with his foster mom who wants to care for him and show him some love until it’s time for him to cross the rainbow bridge. Thank you to his foster mom for doing this for him . 💕
We are all very, very upset by this and this is emotions speaking, but here’s the thing. This didn’t happen over night.
Animals need more than just pretty beds and fragrant shampoo and fancy smelling p**p bags. THEY ALSO NEED VET CARE!!!! REGULAR VET CARE!!! That’s why people go to university to become a vet, so they can help animals. Yes, pet care is expensive. But that’s one of the things you must take into consideration when getting a pet.
There’s no reason for this little tiny dog to be so sick. If he was getting regular vet care he would not be as bad as he is. Neglect comes in many different forms and it’s not because you got a poor quality of p**p bags or because the shampoo doesn’t smell pretty. For the love of dog, if you can’t afford to take proper care of a pet… DON’T GET ONE. If you fall on hard times either ask for help or surrender your pet just please, don’t let them get this bad. It might not be as simple as that but please don’t let your pets get in such bad condition that it’s too late for them.
So we ask you to please drop a 💜 for Taco and his foster mom and wish them the very best couple of weeks and one thing we can be thankful for is this boy will know what love is in his final days. Some people really don’t deserve the love of an animal.
We are thrilled to let you all know that Hosu has been adopted by an amazing Great Dane savvy family and her name is now Sushu or as I call her Snowshoe. Woohoo… way to go Snowshoe!!!!
Dubu is now called Koda and he is adopted by the wonderful family who adopted Daisy from us. Yay Koda!!!!
We have some awesome news. Lola is on trial with a wonderful family. Woohoo...let's go Lola!!!!
These sweet babies will be in rescue this weekend. They will be in foster care until they get their vet clearance and vaccines. We call them “The Coalminers Clan” because they are coming from a community well known for mining of coal. The More info when they get settled. ❤️❤️
We took this wee fellow into rescue today. He is in ruff shape and will need a full vet assessment, his vaccines, a neuter, dental and his nails cut. Please don’t ever let your dogs nails get like this. It’s so very very painful for the dog. It’s not expensive to have a groomer cut their nails so they never have to live like this.
These 2 sweet seniors are still looking for their perfect forever home. Seniors need love too, are you the right family to give them love every day?
Thanks to a huge load of puppy food from East Coast Dog, our puppies will have nice full bellies until they go to their new families. 🐶

❤️❤️❤️ SENIOR DOGS NEEDING LOVE ❤️❤️❤️
If you would like to meet Honey and Otis, please email us at [email protected] for an adoption application. Please read their bio before applying for them.
Meet Honey and Otis, 11 year old Yorkie bonded pair as they are brother and sister and have been together all their lives. We really don’t want a family with small children or large dogs because these wee ones are indeed wee teeny tiny dogs. They may be 11 years old but don’t let that fool you, they are full of life, they can run fast and they still love their walks. They love the cats at their foster family’s house and live very contently with the other dogs. They like to snuggle under the covers at night and love to sleep on your knee. They are p*e pad trained but have learned how to go outside to use the bathroom.
The pictures are of them with their fur long and with their fur short. Would you like to adopt these sweet wee ones?
Thank you to everyone who came out to support us and the other local vendors at the craft show on the weekend. It was a lot of fun and a very successful event!!!
A HUGE thank you to our dear friend with a big heart, Alicia Jordan from Alicia Jordan Designs, for her amazing awesomeness and for hosting the show for us. You are the best ❤️
A very special thank you to the tremendous trio Krista, Jacki and Dawn for working the table the whole weekend, selling tickets and keeping us entertained. You gals are so wonderful. ❤️
And the best thing of all is we raised enough money for the wee ones to have their dental work done. They are officially booked for May 14th for their surgery!!!! Once they are healed they will be available for adoption. ❤️

A great time was had by everyone yesterday at Fluffy Tails Dog Grooming and Wild Carnivore in Sackville NB. There were lots of beautiful dogs and beautiful people but the main event was when our girl Coco visited. Coco was reunited with her foster mom Jane and her trusty sidekick Gail and she was soooo happy to see them. Coco is doing AMAZING. She is so healthy, her fur is soft and shiny, she is happy happy happy and loved every minute of her life. She goes everywhere with her family.
Thank you to the wonderful ladies at Fluffy Tails and Wild Carnivore for putting on such a fun fundraiser. You are all amazing. And thank you to mudder Jane and Gail and Laurie for all your help. You ladies rock. Our hearts are smiling 🥰❤️🐾💜😘
On this date, April 17th in 2007, a small rescue organization was formed which we called Litters n Critters Rescue Society. Today marks our 17th anniversary as a rescue, and during the last 17 years we have saved the lives of thousands of dogs and a number of cats. Yes, there was a time when we rescues cats and anything with feet, claws , paws, scales and wings 😊
We survived a pandemic, fires, floods, blizzards and ice storms and are anxiously waiting for locusts and headless horsemen.
It’s the dedication of our awesome foster families, volunteers and supporters who has kept this rescue going. Thank you to each and every one of you for all of your support over the past 17 years. Happy Anniversary LnC….Here’s to 17 more???
🥂 🍾 🎉 🐾 💜
Your girl Coco is doing absolutely fantastic and had a day at the beach playing ball and getting all kinds of love from her family. Doesn’t she look wonderful!!! And Do you think she’s a daddy’s girl ❤️❤️❤️
Please welcome Honey and Otis, 2 sweet Yorkie siblings who are in foster care. They will be getting groomed and we will post their bio and family requirements after they get prettied up
Animal abuse has to stop. The laws need to be strengthened and enforced to the fullest. No more slaps on the wrist or fingers pointed at perps saying “oh you shouldn’t do stuff like this” Animals are dying at the hands of ignorant, abusive humans and it’s time for this to stop. Do you think we will ever see any kind of change or see people being held accountable for their actions?

Coco update today: Our sweet girl is slowly getting better. Today was the first day she went out to play with her ball since her surgery. She wasn’t out too long because the wind hurts her ear but it’s such a positive thing for her to want to play. She is still on a pharmacy of meds but she needs them for pain and to stop any infection. Also, Coco gained almost 3 pounds and it’s not fat its muscle from getting exercise. Remember she had no muscle mass when we got her and was “flabby” but now she is getting toned and gaining muscle. And today was the first time since her surgery that she put her paw on her foster Moms shoulder and gave her a kiss. Auntie Jane aka Mudder is doing such an amazing job with this sweet girl. Keep on healing Coco. You’re doing great!!!!
The difference that kindness, love and proper care of an animal makes is amazing. Look at Coco having a blast with her foster Mom in the snow. My goodness this is so heartwarming. YOU GO COCO GIRL!!! 🥰❤️
We will post more on CoCo after the segment on Global news tonight but in the meantime please enjoy this video of her loving the beautiful outdoors after being in that house alone for over a year.
Does anything warm your heart more than seeing our boy Trooper George having the best life any dog could ever ask for. Melts our hearts. THAT FACE!!! ❤️❤️❤️❤️
