Rodent poisoning causes Secondary poisoning/killing of our native wildlife!

Secondary poison occurs when owls, hawks coyotes, bobcats, mountain lions, foxes etc AND OUR PETS eat poisoned animals.

The lethal effect of anticoagulant poison takes several days to kill rodents. During that time, poisoned mice and rats keep feeding on bait, providing a more toxic dose to their predators. At the same time, the internal bleeding caused by rodenticides weakens their systems, making them slow and more vulnerable to predators: the easier to catch, the more prey is consumed, which means more poison is ingested.

When non targeted animals eat poisoned rats and mice, the poison also causes a slow and painful “secondary” death.

There are many ways to keep rodent populations down- including understanding that natural predators (like owls/coyotes etc) are the perfect ecological solutions.

PLEASE do NOT use poison

I don’t know about you, but I think swans add the most romantic and classic touch to weddings/anniversaries/engagement parties when they are put in water features. Don’t you?

Here are some photos from some of our recent events with them

Anyone facing the oncoming onslaught of the hurricanes, I am so incredibly sorry and my thoughts and prayers are with you.

But Please, PLEASE do not tie out or tether your dog /animals!! You are absolutely guaranteeing Your animal will die a horrible death.

If you have guardian dogs, they are never leaving your herd. You do not need to tie them out to force them to stay.

This does not only apply to dogs! Please don’t tie any animals in a hurricane!! You are not protecting them. You are sealing their fate.

Check out this beautiful golden blond pure coyote female. The first photo is the from The New England Wildlife post about some eastern coyote pups they rehabilitate and released. The others are of my Chai.

Don’t you think Chai would easily pass for her?

“This is “Goldie” and she is among the most interesting looking coyote patients we have ever worked with. Her light coloring and small stature had us doing a double-take and second guessing our identification skills. After all, no one wants to accidentally raise a corgi puppy in a pack of coyotes!

However, as she grew it became clear she was all coyote. Her proportions evened out and she behaved just like her 3 foster siblings. A DNA test later confirmed this for us.

Her color speaks to the incredible variability we see within the Eastern Coyote species. Their coats can range from light, like Goldie here, all the way to jet-black and everywhere in between.
This color diversity is often referred to as “polymorphism” and is rooted in the genetic makeup and constituency of the animal’s ancestors. These color expressions can be widespread and result from environmental pressures over long periods of surviving in a specific environment, or can simply be a one-off genetic “flukes” that only affects the individual animal. In any event, it is quite astounding to see the Coyote color spectrum we have here in Massachusetts.

Goldie was successfully returned to wild yesterday along with one of her foster siblings. We picked a nice secluded spot away from people and pets where she will hopefully live a long and happy life 😁🐺

Burt is finally settling in to coming a very lovely bird. As he learns his manners, he’s getting more privileges and more time out which he really loves. He’s graduated to a nice 12 foot long enclosure that he’s spent his day, destroying boxes, wood, and other toys and really enjoys being brought up out for walks and time around the pool. I am now ready to start submitting him for projects! Hopefully we will be able to post him working on jobs soon!
