Please take time to read this article. This is important!

I showed dogs professionally (AKC handler) for over 20 years and have watched the damage that fads have done to many dog breeds. I am now seeing the same thing being done to the Maine C**n, a breed that I have dedicated 40 years of my life and love. Pet buyers need to educate themselves. Your decisions will either fuel or stop this disaster.

The Maine C**n is a naturally occurring bred and due to the skull and body changes from the "European Maine C**n" fad they would no longer survive in the wild. We are now only beginning to scratch the surface of how these changes are effecting the health of the breed.

The enormous (international) demand for these extreme looks ensures that more and more kitten factories are popping up to make a profit. Many domestic (USA) breeders of these cats are brokers for kitten factories in Russia and the Ukraine.

Remember, a breed only stays healthy as long as it is functional.

And now for the long awaited update!!! As I said in an earlier post, this was one of the most fun adoptions I've had the pleasure to take part in :-) I'll start from the beginning. Ryan contacted me in August, he and his girl friend were interested in getting a kitten. He told me he was planning to propose and wanted the kitten to be part of it. Later that day Jennifer emailed me. I talked to both of them for a day or two before I realized they were a couple. Ryan and I worked out a plan 😎 Jennifer was told the kittens were all reserved, but they were welcome to come out and see if a Maine C**n was right for them. Ryan stealthily deduced which one she fell in love with. Now all we had to do was wait for the ring to arrive! Of course nothing ever goes smoothly and there was some glitches to work through. Plus Ryan had to get things set up at home without Jennifer finding out. But finally the day arrived! Ryan zoomed over, picked up the kitten and raced to get home before Jennifer. The ring is one of the most beautiful I have ever seen. An amazing teal sapphire and her Grandmother's diamonds set in a beautiful filigree band. Ryan and Jennifer were kind enough to share the engagement video with us! I have been told that Xena (the kitten) is now famous as a large social media company picked up their video. If you scroll down to our August posts, you'll find the video Jennifer made during her visit here. Also in the Community section you can find the pictures of Xena that Jennifer has shared. Congratulations Ryan & Jennifer!!!
