This month has been our biggest adoption month in a long time! But we still have so many available. We have 30 cats ready for homes, and 21 are under 9 months old. We also have 9 amazing dogs looking for homes.

Join PALS and the Grinnell Vintage Auto Club - Grinnell, IA at Central Park for PetRock
PALS will be serving drinks starting at 4pm, band starts at 6.
All proceeds go to support PALS animals! We prefer cash, but other options will be available.

Car Show is going on now until 3:30.

Pinto is an energetic, almost 2 year old pit mix. He is mostly white, except for his face makeup. Pinto loves wrestling with and chasing the other dogs, both male and female. Cats are not his friends. We think he is housetrained, but will need reminders in a new home.

Comet has been learning new skills during Beginner Obedience Classes! He is working on loose leash walking, heeling, sit, down, and stay commands. It is also getting his brain working and giving him an hour away from the shelter. Comet has been with us over a year now with very little interest. He does seem like a high-energy dog in his kennel, but give him a couple minutes out of it, and he will be sitting on your lap wanting snuggling. He loves people and could live with school-aged kids. If you have a dog-friendly dog, they can be brought out to meet him, some dogs he does great with. He does amazing with cats, ignores them even when they hiss or run from him. Comet is a sweet boy who would love a nice, comfy spot to chill at home.
Comet is a 3 year old boxer mix.

We opened our last bag of kitten food today! We prefer Purina Brand, either Kitten Chow or PurinaOne. We have over 50 kittens in our care, plus a new Momma with 5 babies. Kittens Galore!!
These 10 kittens are at the shelter and ready to go home! Sheila and Fluffermutter are our 2 female kittens ready to go. The other 8 are boys.

Don't let his age fool you, Waylon is still full of energy! At almost 9 years old, Waylon still loves to run and hunt. He is a Jack Russell Terrier with a high prey drive. He will chase cats and other small animals. Waylon doesn't like dogs being in his space either. He lived on a farm before coming to us and is used to being outside and active.

Come visit him Wednesday-Friday 1-6pm and Saturday 10-2pm.

Sweet Grey Kittens

These three are almost 5 months old. They were exposed to Feline Leukemia Virus by their mom. They can fight off the virus as kittens, and testing isn't reliable until 1 year old. It can be spread to other cats by grooming, so they will need to be in a home with other positive cats, as only cats or cats vaccinated for Feline Leukemia.

They are so sweet and lovable and would love a home to run around in!

❤️Pinkie❤️

Pinkie would make a great addition to almost every house. She loves people, plays well with dogs, and does good with cats. She would make a great first dog or addition to a multidog family. Pinkie will be as active as you want. She is always up for an adventure or spending the day lounging on the couch. She matches other dog's play styles, whether it's playing chase or wrestling around. She keeps her kennel clean, an indication of being potty trained. Pinkie is a young hound mix.

Apollo and Jabba came to us fom Muscatine Humane Society when we swapped two of our longest term dogs (Lloyd and Fenrir) with there's.
Apollo is a 3 year old Rottie/Husky mix. He is energetic and loves to run and play. He has done good when other dogs but a meet and greet would be needed with other dogs in the home. He can be a runner and will need a secure fence. He has been inthe shelter for almost 2 years!

Jabba is a 1 year old Airedale Terrier mix. He is full of puppy energy still and will need an owner who can teach him manners. He has done great with other dogs and loves people.

Come meet them and our other dogs today from 10-2pm and Wednesday-Friday 1-6pm.

Pinto
We aren't sure which is cuter, those giant ears or his eyebrows! Pinto was a transfer to us from ARL in Des Moines due to them being overflowing with dogs. He is almost 2 years old. We are told he does good with dogs. He shoved his toy under the fence so he could play tug with Waylon. He loves playing with his toys and fetch. Pinto is a big, sweet guy who is looking for a lovable home.

Thank you to Grinnell Mutual for inviting us to your party! Our dogs loved all the attention!
Sam is a 7 month old heeler mix. He is high-energy and needs an active family. He has done great with other dogs and kids.
Pinkie is a sweet 1¹/² year old hound mix. She wanted everybody to pet her today. She has done great with people of all ages and other dogs.
Comet showed off his true laidback personality today. He loved the attention and the break from the shelter. Comet is one of our longer stay dogs and gets very anxious when people walk up to his kennel. He is a 3 year old boxer mix. He does great with cats and will need to meet any dogs in the home.

Our cat room is almost finished!! Which means we are back open for normal hours!

Greta would love a calm place to hang out, inside or outside. She likes her space away from people, but occasionally, she will let us pet her.

Genavieve is slowly opening up. She tends to shy away from people when other cats are around, but when alone, she wants us to pet her. She would love a calm, quiet home with a sunny spot to sleep.

Chuck-Chuck is a lovable boy with a naughty streak. He wants all the attention, but he also wants to bite. He loved wrestling with the other cats.

Frozone is our senior baby. He loves laps and is a great snuggler. He has the prettiest green eyes. His downfall is his snotty nose from years of living on the streets. It isn't contagious to other animals.but he does need his nose and face occasionally washed off.

These 4 are out the shelter and ready to go! Many of our felines are still in foster homes but will be back next week. We are open Wednesday-Friday 1-6pm and Saturday 10-2pm.

Low Rider!
Lambeau is a senior corgi. His 10th birthday is coming up on September 15th! He was surrendered to a vet clinic and found his way to us on Saturday. He is very sweet but confused by all the dogs barking. Lambeau will need to be on a diet and will do best with minimal stairs. He will make a great slow walking companion. We are guessing he is house-trained. We would love to get him back into a home fast!
Our open hours are Wednesday-Friday 1-6pm and Saturday 10-2pm.

In July, 5 dogs and 7 cats were adopted! Dogs pictured include Eugene, who went to live with his brother Gomez, Maggie, who now lives in Missouri, longer-term dog Chowder and Milo. Not pictured is dog, Frappuccino, and cats Creme, Brule, Swanson, Prismo, Reggie, Florence, and Amaya. We have 44 animals ready to go home! Next week, we will resume open hours, Wednesday-Friday 1-6pm, and Saturday 10-2pm. Please message us if you are interested in a specific cat. Most will still be in foster homes, but we can arrange for them to be at the shelter.

We are running extremely low on Kitten and Cat food. We prefer PurinaOne but accept any kind.
Our wishlists can be found at https://www.palspets.net/donate or they can purchased in town and dropped off at PALS.
We will be resuming open hours next week, Wednesday-Friday 1-6pm and Saturday 10-2pm. Some of our available cats/kittens will still be in foster homes, message or call us if wanting a specific one.

PLEASE, if you are abandoning your dogs in the Poweshiek/Jasper/Marshall County areas, contact your nearest shelter! We will help or find someone who can! There have been 6 dogs, all very similar looking, dumped within the past 1-2 weeks. We are wondering if our recently found poodles have any relation to these ones. We would all rather set up a plan for their surrender instead of finding them abandoned.
Last weekend, Paws-N-Claws Iowa from Newton were able catch 2 dogs out at Krumm Preserve but 2 more are so terrified they can't be caught. One that was caught had 5 puppies days later! Diamond in the Ruff Rescue trapped 2 more outside of Gilman this week.

PALS does not have any of the recently caught dogs. Contact Paws-N-Claws Iowa and Diamond in the Ruff Rescue, both are foster-based rescues in Central Iowa, if interested in helping or donating to their care.

Look into these big ole puppy dog eyes!

Fenrir is an absolute sweetheart! When he loves, he loves with his whole heart and body. Fenrir is an extra large mutt weighing around 100 lbs. He is 4 years old, house trained, and has low energy requirements. Fenrir would prefer being the only dog but has gotten along with a few of our younger dogs and adult females. He can not live with cats!! He has done great with middle school-aged kids and older. Fenrir is closing in on his 1 year anniversary of being here (August 10). His size and bark can be intimidating, but he is a giant lovebug!

We will be resuming open hours starting August 7, Wednesday-Friday 1-6pm, and Saturday 10-2pm. If interested in him or any of our other dogs, we will happily set up a time to visit them this weekend or outside our hours.

Look at those ears!!
Sam is a 6 month old Cattle Dog mix. He is very smart and high-energy, which means if he is not given a job, he will find something to do. He routinely went on 2 mile runs but needs something to work his brain. Sam is potty-trained and does great with kids. We think he will excel in a home that can work his body and his mind with walks and training.

If you are interested in meeting Sam, fill out an application or send us a message to set up a time to visit. We are CLOSED this week due to cat room renovations. But we are happy to set up appointments for our dogs.

Happy National Mutt Day!

We have some amazing mutts looking for their new homes! Our kennels are FULL, and 4 dogs have been here over 11 months! The longer they are here, the harder it is to find them homes. Lloyd, Fenrir, and Comet are all amazing dogs. They love people and would do great with older kids. With proper introductions, Lloyd and Comet do great with most dogs. Fenrir would love to be the one and only animal in the home. Comet even does great with cats.

This week is the perfect time to adopt a dog because Who's Leading Who, LLC starts new training classes next week! It is the perfect way to start bonding with your dog and setting them up to build confidence and great manners. PLUS, they are offering discounts to recently adopted PALS dogs! In the last session, we were able to take Eugene to learn basic manners and leash walking. Our staff have taken their personal dogs and have seen great improvement with manners.

If you are interested in any of our dogs, message us and fill out an application. We are CLOSED this week except by appointment while our cat room is being renovated, but staff are out here daily.

UPDATE! They have been adopted together!

Bonded Poodles
Danny and Sandy are standard poodles who were found roaming the country. Sandy is guessed at 2 years old and is the outgoing one. She loves people and is happy to go where we go. Danny is guessed to be 4 years old. He is more cautious than Sandy and looks to her for confidence. We would love for them to find a home together, but know that can be difficult to find.
We are closed this week except by appointment. If you are interested in meeting them, contact us to set up a time to visit them.

Special Needs Babies
UPDATE! Duke has gone to a foster-to-adopt home.

Duke is an 8 week old Australian Shepherd. He loves snuggling on the couch and chewing on his toys. Duke was born deaf and has some vision issues. He has done great with potty-training. He has poor vision in the dark and gets scared easily in the dark. He would love a home with another dog who can help him navigate and build his confidence with the world. Duke is looking for a foster-to-adopt home until he is old enough to be neutered.

Yoshi is a beautiful medium haired 5 month old kitten. He suffered brain damage, which caused blindness. He has not let that slow him down! He is a fiesty kitten who loves playing. He maneuvers his foster home perfectly and has figured out how to squeeze thru and climb over baby gates. He loves attention and will grab your hand or legs with claws and teeth when he wants to play or be petted.

Both boys are in a foster home with other cats and dogs. If interested in them, fill out an application or message us.

We are closed this week except by appointment. (July 31- Aug 3)

TODAY, Saturday, July 27th, we are open from 10-2pm. Next week, we will be CLOSED except by appointment (July 28-Aug 6).
We have several kittens and lots of dogs ready for adoption today.

Poodles, Sandy and Danny, are looking for a home together. Sandy is very confident and loves people. Danny follows Sandy's lead but shies away from people.

Pinkie is a young hound mix. She is dog and people friendly. She is sweet and playful.

Stewart is an 8 month old corgi mix. He is very energetic and needs an active home.

Frappe, Macchiato, and Latte are our 6 month old Sheperd mixes. They are energetic and will be large dogs when fully grown.

Who's Leading Who Dog training in Grinnell is offering PALS dogs a discount on their first 8-week session, new classes start August 5th. It's a great way to bond and start off on the right foot with your new dog!

Come Volunteer with PALS!

Our Valentine Treat winners are... Spitfire and Bixby!! Spitfire got an extra special tuna pouch and a (probable) adopter! Bixby got a new dog bed! She had to fully sniff it over before curling up on it. Thank you to all those who donated a Valentine to our animals. We raised close to $400, which will help pay for spaying/neutering our animals.

Bam Bam is a high energy kitten! He would do great as an only cat with some dog friends. He is still at his foster home, please message us if interested in him. Scroodge would love a home with a confident kitten. He will be available to go home on January 31st We are open Wednesday-Friday 11-4pm and Saturday 10-2pm or by appointment.

Chowder is an amazing dog! He a little goofy, a little sweet and has a dash of ornery. He does great hanging out in the cat room and is dog-friendly. He loves people! He is guessed to be around 1 year old. Last weekend for our $50 adult dogs! We are open Wednesday-Friday 11-4pm and Saturday 10-2pm. Applications can be filled out at www.palspets.net

With 50+ animals, we try knowing everything but sometimes we gotta look it up. Message us with any questions about our animals and we will try find out.

Come meet our adult cats! Raven the beautiful longhaired girl. Edie and Darby our bonded girls. Chuck the friendliest boy. Ares super sweet declawed girl. We are open Wednesday-Friday 11-4pm and Saturday 10-2pm or by appointment.

Chuck is very annoyed being kenneled. He acts like he will bite but then starts licking us. He is a very sweet, large tomcat. Once neutered he will be up for adoption!

We only have 2 bags left! We prefer PurinaOne Kitten but will take any brand. We are also low on canned kitten food for our even tinier babies.
