So excited to start working with Miss Chloe today! Such a sweetheart !
We are working on:
⭐️ Being calmer throughout the day and getting less worked up and barking about what’s going on outside.
⭐️ Door dashing
⭐️ Calm guest greetings
⭐️ Getting better responses to commands

So far she’s incredibly smart, eager to please, and full of energy! 😍 Excited to get to know her and see what she has to teach me to ❤️🐾

Meet Jax!
Seriously that face 😍🥹
I started working with him and his people last week and I am so impressed by how much they have already accomplished with him! 🙌
He was a rescue and quite the wild child, but his people did some amazing work with him to get him settled in the house and greeting company politely ❤️But they were still struggling with over excitement around other dogs on leash, and he’s a strong boy! 💪 Today we started some foundation leash work to teach Jax how to stay with his person even when he becomes distracted.
We had a conversation about treating your leash work with your dog as if they were off leash- the better you can get this connection on leash the better it will be off leash. There is the physical connection between you and your dog through the leash that you can see, and then there is the invisible one that joins your hearts❤️😍 make it strong and it won’t fail! 🐾❤️

Working with dogs has really taught me about how our “narratives” about dogs affect our training results, goals, and overall experience. It’s really hard to come at training with a completely open mind when you’ve had a negative experience with your dog. We can often label them. We struggle to let go of the “old narrative” which paints them in a certain light. We struggle to embrace the new narrative that allows them to grow into what we want them to be. It’s fascinating to me that when we let go of these old narratives suddenly dogs start making big changes. It’s amazing how much our thoughts and our stories about our lives affect what we see in front of us. It points to a deeper truth that until we embrace a new way of thinking and being, it is almost impossible to see or create change. Dogs teach us that we can always rewrite our story, that we are so much more than just a creation of the past. That we are present, powerful creators of our current reality - and we get to choose the reality we want to live in with every moment and every decision we make 🐾❤️

If you’re ever stuck on something in training it’s almost always about adjusting your pace 🐕

“You do not rise to the level of your goals. You fall to the level of your systems”
-James Clear Atomic Habits

A lot of us have been trained to set goals and work towards them. There’s nothing really wrong with that, other than when it comes to something like dog training it could be a while before you see the results that you have in mind in particular. That’s not to say that your goals are unrealistic, it might just mean they could take longer to reach than you expected.
So rather than getting hung up on goals you’d like to reach, since animal training doesn’t tend to have an exact timeline, it’s much more beneficial to focus on how consistently you are performing daily training interactions with your dog.
This doesn’t mean you have to work on a sit stay for five minutes every day, although that could be something you want to work on. It could look like just being prepared to train your dog when they start barking out the window. Or being ready to train your dog for a greeting when you come home.

Daily good training habits will always outweigh endlessly drilling exercises through willpower

Sunset or sunrise? ☀️
What comes before and after your dog “does something” are the biggest pieces of solving a training/behavioral problem.
How can you adjust these factors to help you and your dog be more successful?
Are you starting to see where you can change patterns in yourself or in interactions with your dog to reach your goals?
You don’t need to have the perfect answers but getting started is all it takes! ❤️🐾

Meet Baxter! 😍❤️🐾
His owners and me have been working on helping this little guy feel safe out in the world and to build confidence on his walks as he can become very reactive

When dogs bark and lunge on leash it often comes from a very insecure place, and dogs use this behavior to create more space for themselves 🐕

To help dogs not feel the need to do this, we have to help them feel safe, confident, and looking to us for guidance and security. We need to be able to speak to them in multiple ways. We have to open our hearts and empathize with how it must feel to get so worked up ❤️

I was so proud this little guy today! 🥰❤️
It’s not easy to face your fears 🥹

Does your dog become insecure when startled, or in new situations?

My Story

Put simply, animals fascinate me! I am the owner of Venture Doggie LLC, a professional dog trainer, veterinary assistant, and life long student! I have lived all over the world perfecting my craft in the training of dogs and horses, and live to learn more about these amazing animals!

I always thought I would be a veterinarian, and pursued an M.S In Molecular Biology to fulfill that path, but once I got deeply into animal behavior I knew I had found my true calling. My greatest teachers have, and always will be, the animals themselves. When I am not riding a horse, I am hiking with a pack of dogs who will always teach me more than I imagined. One of my greatest teachers has been my personal dog, Lewen (his story below), who has helped me to become more present, patient, and determined in meeting all of my goals with animals. I believe that every moment is a teaching moment when you are with an animal. Ironically it is almost always the human aspect that needs wrangling! Animals humble us, they reflect us, and they show us what life is all about. As I grow as a professional dog trainer I invite you to ask yourself the question, why does my dog do that? Perhaps the answer you find will connect you more closely with the animals in your life, as it has in mine.
