We ❤️ first responders!

We received an incredible message last week from Kathleen and Oma who were dispatched to respond to the devestating fires in Hawaii. Kathleen Kelsey is a Canine Search Specialist with Missouri Task Force One, and her K9 partner is Oma--a six year old, female Dutch Shepard. Together, they are a part of a search and rescue team. It is tough and exhausting work--swipe to see: Oma's paws need to be wrapped to protect her from debris as she searches.

We're so glad that Oma has a clean and comfy place to rest between her shifts. Thank you for your message and your service, Kathleen and K9 Oma!

It’s important for everyone to stay hydrated during the summer, but did you know it’s possible to over-hydrate? Hyperhydration or water poisoning can occur in dogs and humans, and it is a sudden and sometimes fatal condition caused by a sudden intake of a large amount of water. Fun summertime activities where this is a risk include: dock diving, swimming, water retrieving, and even playing with the hose so a keep a look out for the following signs: lethargy, bloating, vomiting, loss of coordination, restlessness, drooling, pale gums, dilated pupils, and glazed eyes. If you suspect your dog is hyperhydrated, seek help from a vet or emergency clinic immediately.

We want to take our dogs everywhere with us, especially in the summertime. But sometimes, rising temperatures can make pavement too hot for the tender pads of our furry friends. According to the AKC, you can test the temperature by placing your hand on the pavement or ground surface for ten seconds. If it’s too hot for your hand, it’s too hot for your dog’s paws.

We love celebrating summer, but some elements of a celebration can be scary for a dog, like fireworks. 🎆🐶❌

Loud sounds can cause dogs to panic and bolt. According to the Humane Society, it's best to leave your pets safely indoors, preferably with a radio or TV turned on to soften jarring noises. Dogs will often hide in a place that feels most safe to them like their crate. Others may be found under furniture or in a bathtub. 🛋️🛁 Where does your dog like to go during fireworks?
