I told you George would be in some photos from now on!! Here we are sitting on the railway platform at Arthur's Pass, having just travelled from Christchurch on the Trans Alpine railway. It was a very comfortable journey, especially when Mum and Kaye took me down to the cafe car and we sat for some time where I had lots of room to stretch out.

Hi all, I thought it was about time I showed you the nice man who is driving our coach. His name is Paul and he works for Grand Pacific Tours. He is a very good driver and a very nice man. In this picture he is holding a bear. This bear is our new travelling companion. His name is George and he joined us from the George Hotel in Christchurch. You will probably see a bit of George from now on. I don't mind him because he doesn't take up much room in my photos, leaving me as the main attraction—just as it should be!!!!

Here is a photo of a ferry that goes between Wellington and Picton. We couldn't get a photo of our actual ferry because there wasn't time. We travelled on the ferry for a couple of hours. the ferry crosses Cook Strait, which runns between the north and south islands of New Zealand. It was quite a comfortable trip and Mum and Kaye took me for a walk so I didn't so bored. We didn't stay in Picton at all, because we went for a train ride.

Write a caption... When we came back to the hotel after our afternoon walk, auntie Kaye showed mum a big teddy bear. He is the concierge of the hotel. I decided I would like to have a photo with him. So that is what I did. He is quite a big bear, around about 18 inches high. He is dressed up in a beautiful uniform and looks very proud.

Today we went and visited a museum. Mum was quite happy, because she was able to touch a lot of things. The parts of the museum that we visited demonstrated the changes in New Zealand from before settlement when it was just forest and animals all the way through to recent times. It was extremely interesting for the people, the only thing I found interesting was looking in a house that the entrance was only as big as me. Mum went in and earthquake simulator, but I stood outside and watched. After that, we sat on the bus and did a tour of Wellington. After that, we went for a walk around the city and a ride on the cable car. The photo here, is me sitting on a lookout point with a backdrop of the city of Wellington. We then went and had some dinner and a very early night. Mum said we have to get up at 5:30 tomorrow. I find it hard to get up any time… Oh well, I guess she’ll rows me when she’s ready for me to start work again.

We spent quite a long time on the coach as we drove from Rotorua to Wellington. One of the stops along the way was at Huka Falls, where I am sitting on the bridge with the falls behind me. We also stopped at a place where Mum and Kaye bought expensive jumpers. Kaye said they would last a lifetime. At one of the stops we found a dog rest area, so Mum let me go for a free run. I had lots of fun smelling all the other dogs and running around. I saw some birds that I wanted to chase, so I jumped through a hole in the fence to get them. Kaye had to come and get me because I wouldn't listen to Mum calling me. That was really fun!!!

Rotorua is famous for hot springs and geysers. This is a photo of a geyser at the maori information centre at Rotorua. I didn't go to the geyser, because the ground can be very hot in places and it would have burned my feet. I sat in a little train with Geoff. Also at this centre we looked at three schools that have been developed for youngmaori people to learn ancient skills such as wood carving, stone and wale bone carving and weaving. The idea is to ensure that the ancient arts are not forgotten. The people ate a lot of food cooked in the traditional hungi. This means that the food is cooked on hot rocks under the earth. We also learned that one of the things that the women wove was a bag that they would put the food in and dangle in the Rotorua is famous for hot springs and geysers. We went on a old train. This train was at a place called Glenbrook and is operated by the Glenbrook vintage railway people. We were in what was called a parlour car, so the seats were very comfortable, there was lots of room, there were small tables and big windows. We were given, at least mum and the other people were given, morning tea. The morning tea was sandwiches. Cakes slices, pikelets, and coffee. Mum said it was delicious. I wouldn’t know, I didn’t get any frowning face. The train went for approximately 13 km and it was really enjoyable. The Parlour car we were in, also had an observation deck, similar to what they have in America on the old movies. We went and stood outside for a little while, and it was quite fun.

Today we went to a place called Russell. It is one of the 144 islands in the Bay of Islands. It is quite a big town with lots and lots of holiday homes and other tourist accomodation. We had to go there by a ferry, but I thought that was fun! The photos I have put up are at a place called Lookout Hill. The one with the flag pole is where the original New Zealand flag was raised after the treaty was signed. This beautiful one with the mosaic was also at the lookout place. The mosaic shows all the area of Bay of Islands. 🐾 c

After that very long wait, it was good to get into our motel room so that I could take my harness off and relax. The lady sitting with me is one of the orientation and mobility staff working with a company called I Can Explore. these people do all sorts of activities with blind people so that they can experience different things, do their shopping easier, have some company to go to a movie or anything else the blind person wants to do. All the staff are also O&M instructors with lots of experience, so they can also teach people how to get around independently. In our case: The lady picked us up from Footscray Station; took us to AFF; Waited and waited; helped us buy lunch and took us for a coffee; took us to the motel at the airport and ensured we were safely in our room. What a lovely lady and what a great service for blind people. I liked it very much because it meant that I didn't have to try and take Mum to somewhere neither of us knew how to find or what to do. Thank you I Can Explore. Hope we can meet again soon ☺️🧑‍🦯🦮

Here I am waiting at the AFF (Agriculture fisheries and forestry) for paper work to be completed so that I can go to nz. People came and talked to Mum and it seemed not everything was right. After a very long time we had to leave and it was still uncertain whether I would get to travel. We didn't find out till early on the day we were leaving that I was allowed to go.

Here I am, sitting outside, waiting for our lift to the station. My bag is packed right here next to me. I even have my nice blue rug for sleeping on my am away. I am really getting excited now.
