Even though we are a limited admission facility, typically we assist 150 animals in any given year, including dogs, cats and an occasional horse. Sometimes, we see the darker side of human nature in the case of an abused or neglected animal. Recognizing that education is the key to resolving many of the animal issues, we are alwa

ys open to “getting the word out.” We are always trying to fundraise. Along with annual dinners, we do a Live and Silent Auction every August. We completely depend on members of the community supporting us in all of our efforts, as we do not receive any public funding. We now need to raise enough funds to complete our Adoption Center and need to eventually add a Clinic to our center. These fundraising efforts are critical for our very survival. Without the help of the community, we will be unable to continue efforts to assist abused and neglected animals.

We are sad to announce the passing of one of our long time volunteers, LeeRoy Holmes. Here is his obituary from Coleman Funeral Home in Olive Branch.,
Obituary for LeeRoy Andrew Holmes

LeeRoy Andrew Holmes, 78, of Byhalia, MS, passed away on Sunday, January 19, 2025. Friends are invited to a visitation with the family on Friday, January 24, 2025 from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., with a service to follow at 12:00 p.m., all at Coleman Funeral Home Olive Branch. Interment will be held at a later date at West Tennessee State Veterans Cemetery. Rev. Al Canon will officiate.

LeeRoy was born on May 15, 1946, in Somerville, TN to Samuel and Savannah Holmes. LeeRoy was an electrician and carpenter by trade and also an avid hunter and fisherman. LeeRoy was fond of his cows and was a member of the Cattlemen’s Association. His heart, though, was truly for his family and friends.

Left to cherish LeeRoy’s memory is his wife, Margaret Holmes of Byhalia; sons, Jason Lee Holmes and Joseph Charles Holmes (Alexandria), both of Byhalia; granddaughters, Katrina Holmes and Natalie Holmes, also of Byhalia; and a host of cousins, nieces, and nephews.

LeeRoy is preceded in death by his parents, Samuel and Savannah Holmes; son, Daniel Lee Holmes; sisters, Lucille Kimery, Kate Dye, and Betty Kimery; and brothers, Jack Morgan, Robert Morgan, Alvin Morgan, Sam Holmes, Richard Holmes, Alton Holmes, and Michael Holmes.

In lieu of traditional flowers, donations may be made in LeeRoy’s honor to the Marshall County Humane Society (www.marshallcountyhumanesociety.org).

Thank you so much to the ANONYMOUS DONOR who sent two large bags of Purina Pro Plan dog food, regular and another bag of Sensitive Stomach Purina Pro Plan dog food. UPDATE ON RUBY: She had her surgery for a new hip & is doing well. If you would still like to enter our contest for guessing her breed, see the post on this page, 'Ruby needs surgery.' The first person to guess her breed mix wins 2 tee shirts and it helps us to pay for her surgery. We are waiting on results now from her DNA test.
