Does anyone recognize this adorable pup?

This young girl was abandoned here at some point yesterday in a small crate near our dumpster. She is sweet as can be and appears to be in good health, so we want to be 100% sure that no one is missing this little girl.

It's possible someone found this pup and brought her here hoping we could reunite her with her family. However, we recognize that more likely than not, she was brought here by her owner who could no longer care for her. In either scenario, we know that the person who did this, did so knowing that we could and would help, and that they likely felt that this was their only option.

That said, this is not the way. Please do not just leave them here, especially not in plain sight. Talk to us. Give us the opportunity to offer you assistance. We have a variety of resources available to help you keep your pet. Or, if surrendering that pet to us IS the best option, any history you can provide (signs of illness, vaccine status, previous home environment, etc.) will ensure that we give the animal the best care possible and find it a loving forever home when it's time.

Please, if you are in a position where you can no longer care for an animal, the best first step is starting a conversation with us.

Luckily, we found this girl before it got cold and dark. She is getting the care she needs thanks to your support and our amazing staff. Assuming she is not claimed, she will placed up for adoption in the coming days and will find another family to love her.

This sweet baby's second chance is made possible only through your generous support. If you are able to help cover the cost of vaccines, medication, surgery and care for this young pup, please consider donating on our website at thomasvillehumane.org/donate

Thank you ❤

FYI

💉 The literal “shot heard round the world”. It sounds like a horse received Flunixin or Banamine intramuscularly on an episode of last night? We would like to remind everyone that despite being labeled for intra-muscular use, horses should only ever receive this drug orally or intra-venously. Something that the folks at Yellowstone would need to be on the lookout for after this misplaced administration would be signs of gas and swelling under the neck or a painful injection site. Administering IM banamine to a horse can cause clostridial myositis and can lead to a serious infection that requires surgical and antibiotic intervention. Despite intervention, these infections can be fatal.

Why you should make an effort to return a found dog to its family......

08/11/2024

This is an X-ray of a dog’s bent front leg. See that tiny white spec? That’s a microchip! It has migrated down the leg....far from where it was inserted, between the dog’s shoulders. This is actually quite common.....

When lost pets are scanned, the entire body SHOULD be scanned to catch any that have migrated. But, as an owner, IT IS YOUR RESPONSIBILITY AT THEIR YEARLY VET EXAM, to ask for a quick scan to make sure that: (1) the chip is still working, (2) the location of the chip is good, and (3) that the chip info is correct.

Remember microchips save lives and reunite families with their pet.... just have it checked regularly!

Cooler weather is coming be prepared. Straw will reflect body heat back to a cat and actually repels moisture. Straw is tough, thick, dry leftover stalks from crops. It's lightweight and golden in color. Straw has a hollow center which makes for great insulation (just like double pane windows).

Do NOT use hay (OR blankets) for bedding in outdoor cat shelters. Hay is green and heavy. Hay is typically used to feed animals, like horses. It absorbs moisture, making it damp, cold and uncomfortable for cats, and has the potential to get moldy.

You can buy straw bales at your local co-op, farm/ag supply stores, local garden center/nursery, Home Depot, Lowe's, Tractor Supply or Ace Hardware. We’ve even seen bales of straw being sold outside grocery stores along with pumpkins. Farms selling pumpkins often sell bales of straw too.

DO NOT BUY CRAFT STORE SMALLER BALES OF STRAW. THESE ARE USUALLY CHEMICALLY TREATED AND COULD HARM ANIMALS!
