Our “Saucy” litter arrived early Tuesday morning. They caught us off guard because I wasn’t expecting them until Friday. Maris is doing wonderful as a first time mama. Babies are fat and clean!!! She’s very attentive and very at ease.

We have five puppies! Four boys and one lone girl.

Bolognese-red merle male, 13 ounces
Pomodora-black tri boy, 11.2 ounces
Pesto-black tri boy, 14.4 ounces
Cacia e Pepe-black tri boy, 6 ounces
Besciamella-red merle girl, 13 ounces

Everyone is gaining and doing well. Pepe, our tiny one, is gaining at the same rate as his much bigger siblings. He is going to look small for quite some time because we have some porkers already! Everyone but Pepe, is already over a pound. Mama Maris is apparently part dairy cow.

Waiting list has been started and pending evaluations at 8 weeks, we don’t know where puppies will go. Please message me if interested in being placed on the list.

Exciting News!!! We will have plenty to be thankful for this year. Puppies are due the weekend before Thanksgiving.

I don't normally have three litters in a year, but with the age of my sisters...its happening. We shall see if Miss Maris can follow in her big sisters pawprints and produce some outstanding puppies.

Thank you Mari Jebens for allowing us to bring Maris to your handsome boy Xander. This is a first for both Xander and Maris, but we expect some pretty babies with excellent temperaments in all four colors.

A waiting list has started. Please contact us if you would like to be added.

Thanks to Jewl Wade for photos of Maris and for putting together this announcement.

Always good information to keep in mind when bringing home a new puppy/dog!

I wanted to touch base on a common issue that breeders come across with new owners.

Realistic Expectations

You go to the breeders home. The pups are all social. They are quiet in the pen. The breeder shows you videos of them being totally relaxed at a dog show. All looks amazing and you bring your puppy home.

Then reality hits. The puppy may cry in the crate for the first few nights making you tired and agitated. The happy social puppy is refusing to greet the half dozen overly excited friends you invited over to see your new puppy. The puppy refuses to walk on a leash. Many are wondering how did my perfect puppy turn into a nightmare.

So let’s discuss realistic expectations of when a puppy goes home. First of all the puppy has been in the breeders home since birth. They had their mother and often littermates. They had their routine, were taught expectations and were completely in their comfort zone.

Now suddenly they are taken to a totally new environment. Picture yourself being dropped into an unknown country, often in a different part of the world. You know only a few words of their language. Differnt trees, animals, smells, temperature and people. Now in the middle of this we are switching up your routine, decide to have a party with people you dont know, and ask you to do jobs you have no idea about. Overwhelming to say the least.

This is what every puppy goes through when going to their new home. Stress manifests in different forms. From not eating, reluctancy to play and greet people. Being apprehensive at the vet’s office or as strangers reach for them. Diarrhea, vomiting and being depression can occur.

So what can you as a new owner do to help your little one acclimate?

- most puppies take 3-4 weeks to acclimate to their new home. Repeat after me THREE to FOUR WEEKS! Not a 1-2 days. I can’t stress this enough about how much time is needed for a dog or puppy to feel comfortable in their new home!
- limit guests during the first week. We understand you are excited to show off your new baby but they need time to adjust. Plan on waiting 1-2 weeks before inviting people over
- ask guest to sit on the ground and let the puppy approach them. No squealing and grabbing the puppy
- set up a good routine
- restrict the puppy to a small area of the house. This not only reduces them being overwhelmed but also allows you to watch them
- don’t expect a 9-13 week old puppy to walk on a leash. Instead work at home with a leash where they are comfortable. Let them drag the leash, use treats to encourage them to walk with you
- if your puppy is refusing to walk give them time. My first trips to town with puppies a walk around a small block took 1 1/2 hours. We only move when they initiate the movement as they need time to take in the different environment
- understand your puppy needs time to see you as family. Expecting an immediate bond is unrealistic
- train your puppy. This not only helps you to bond but the puppy to look to you for direction and input
- lastly be patient. Don’t declare “omg there’s something wrong with this dog”. Nothing occurs overnight. Outings should be planned at puppy speed. So while you might imagine a fun walk around the lake in reality your puppy might only be able to handle walking a short distance that day.

Most outings for me take a long time, as I am often just standing still as the puppy cautiously explores the new environment. Patience is key!

Remember if the puppy was wonderful at the breeder’s house but now struggling you as the owner need to help the puppy adjust which takes time, patience and training. have realistic expectations and give the puppy positive experiences. Each puppy is an individual, don’t compare your current puppy to past pets and judge their behavior based on how another dog handled things. Lastly, try to see thing’s from a puppy’s perspective and adjust situations accordingly.

Just received word and all the puppies have their new homes! As the final four start leaving this week, I will share pictures, announce where they are going, and what their names are going to be! I will say this, out of the 7 puppies, only 2 have gone to new people. The other five will be living with other KG Aussies! Can’t be happier!

Aussies are not for everybody, but they are my heart breed. I can’t imagine living without a house full of them!

"But why", said I, "is your dog best?"
The Poodle owner smiled, "You've heard it said, they do not shed, so they're better than the rest."

The Border Collie owner, shook his head to disagree, "Intelligence is the best of traits, and my dog is smart as he can be!"

The Afghan owner soon chimed in, and said so haughtily, "The regal carriage of my breed makes it best for all to see."

The Doberman's owner laughed, "You're way off track" said he, "My dog can guard my home and hearth and always protects me."

The wee Cairn Terriers owner talked about its loyalty. She then shared a touching story about the Cairn, "Grey Friar's Bobby."

The Malinois owner next stepped up, saying "A working dog's for me" "This breed is best, for it gives me life and works by my side unconditionally!"

"My dog's a ball of fire, Jack Russell's bound with energy." "That's why this breed is the best at sports and excels in agility!"

"When it comes to taking orders, you all surely agree, That my Schnauzer at obedience trials, always does the job for me!"

"My Malamute can pull a sleigh," said his owner with a grin. "In carting competitions, we are guaranteed to win."

"So, what makes your dog special?" Soon all eyes turned to me, They're right, I thought, their dogs are great, I couldn't disagree.

I felt, there isn't just one trait, that can describe my breed. It doesn't not shed, like a Poodle, and his Collie's smart indeed.

It's loving, loyal, and elegant when it walks here by my side, In obedience, agility, and therapy, I can look on with pride.

If a stranger ever threatened, it would be the last time he tried, My dog I thought, can do it all, and I looked at him and smiled.

There were so many other things, I could have told them all, Like how this breed can swim and dock dive, play frisbee and flyball.

Or how they're used for therapy or the clownish way they act. How the antics they get up to can always make me laugh.

Instead, I smiled politely and gave my girl a pat, They may not understand, I thought, that a dog can do all of that.

"It's hard to put in words," I said, "I don't know where to start." "An Australian Shepherd," simply put, "Is the breed that owns my heart."

Puppies were 8 weeks old last week. We did evaluations Friday evening. I told myself I was keeping top male and female from this litter. I told myself not to fall in love with any of them, because I was only keeping top male and female. But I fell in love and I got my heart broke.

Anyone who knows me, knows how I feel about my blue girls. Unfortunately Tess, my little blue girl from this litter, stole my heart and then broke it. She has an amazing temperament, is cute as a button, but probably won’t cut it in the conformation ring. My loss is someone else’s gain. And I’m so thrilled that my nephew and his new bride are going to welcome “Daisy” into their home to live with her great uncle Cash (Max x Kaytee litter from July 2015).

Champ, the red tri male, is a show prospect. He is going to become “Goose” and live with some of his relatives as well. I will let them make his new home post.

Bonus, one of the blue boys, is another heart breaker for me, is also going to go live with some of his relatives and be an amazing pet!

Clue, the black tri girl, is meeting a perspective new family this weekend.

Buzz, the red merle male, is being considered by someone. Will know for sure in another week or so if he is the right fit for their home.

So that leaves Bid (blue boy) and Vowel (red girl), the top picks from this litter. I’ll be completely honest, I did not want them to be the top picks!!! Bid has a unique and rememberable face, but not my favorite markings. Vowel, she’s red. Not that I have anything against red dogs, but it is hard to keep red dogs red for show. And I have her cousin Carmie (red dog) in her prime showing career. So, no, I didn’t want another red dog at this time!

With all that being said, I’m doing some serious thinking and visiting with a couple people to see if Bid and/or Vowel will be staying here. I guess it’s a good problem to have, but I don’t enjoy this part!

The game show litter went for their vet appointment yesterday. All are healthy! All the boys have all their parts! And they received their first round of puppy shots (second round of parvo).

Next week, they travel to Kansas City for their eye exams. Also next week, we are evaluating this litter for show prospects. All a part of growing up and letting go!

I am planning on keeping a puppy or two from this litter. I have a few repeat puppy families interested in another pet, a few people looking for a show prospect, and some new families looking to add their first KG Aussies to their family. So, once evals are done and I make my decision on who I’m keeping, I will start letting people on my list know who is available. I’m pretty sure I will not have puppies for everyone who has inquired, but it all depends on the evals.

If you want to make sure you are on the list, please send me a private message.

On May 11, we welcomed our Game Show litter! Drew and Haven gave us 8 beautiful babies. They all came out good sized and appear to be strong and healthy.

Unfortunately baby #9 took too long to make his appearance and didn’t make it.

We welcome one red merle male, one red tri male, one black male, two blue merle males, one red female, one black female and one blue merle female to the KG Aussie family. We were just a red merle female shy of having my absolute dream litter!

Individual pictures with details and names will be coming soon.

Stacked pictures of six week old puppies can be challenging, but I think we got some pretty decent shots of these babies. They were tired from their “puppy party” which helped them hold still but you can see the tired in their faces!

Just a couple more weeks and these babies will get their official evaluation and then we can make placement decisions.

Havens X-ray today revealed at least 10 puppies! There are a few people seeing a possible 11th. And with that many packed into a tiny space, there could be 12. We should know in less than a week!
