Holidays & hurricanes—I'm here! How did I become Carrie About Cats? Really I think I have always been! Professionally it began with volunteering with Front street and Bradshaw shelters and then Lapcats Rescue in California 8 years ago. In Soflo it started the day before Hurricane Irma arrived when I marched into Broward shelter and found it eerily empty. I asked what I could do and they sent me ho

me with the last kittens in the building, a litter of sick babies. Those kittens, Irmie, Harvey, Andrew, and Jose had no idea how lucky they were! We had a good time riding out the storm in my bathroom. Next, I took in Ophelia, a very sickly kitten with ringworm who I held on my lap for days just to make sure she survived. She did! I had to find her a home with people I knew and trusted rather than send her back to the shelter. I wanted more control over who got my kiddos, so I joined Good Karma Pet Rescue. I love Good Karma! With their support I get to take care of orphans, helping them grow strong, and then assist in their adoption. I can’t save them all, but I can do something! And this is what I’m good at. So, while I recover from my previous career of being a social worker I may as well do professionally what I love to do personally. Your support helps me rescue lots of abandoned kittens and to cover my own expenses. So, thank YOU for helping save babies!

The Hurricane Preparedness Tax Holiday starts tomorrow (June 1-14). Pet supplies qualify, too! 🐱💰
Supplies necessary for the evacuation of household pets. For purposes of this exemption, necessary supplies means the noncommercial purchase of:
Bags of dry cat or dog food weighing 50 or fewer pounds and with a sales price of $100 or less per bag
Portable kennels or pet carriers with a sales price of $100 or less per item
Over-the-counter pet medications with a sales price of $100 or less
Pet beds with a sales price of $40 or less per item
Cat litter weighing 25 or fewer pounds and with a sales price of $25 or less per item
Leashes, collars, and muzzles with a sales price of $20 or less per item
Pet pads with a sales price of $20 or less per box or package
Manual can openers with a sales price of $15 or less per item
Collapsible or travel-sized food bowls or water bowls with a sales price of $15 or less per item
Cat litter pans with a sales price of $15 or less per item
Pet waste disposal bags with a sales price of $15 or less per package
Hamster or rabbit substrate with a sales price of $15 or less per package
Cans or pouches of wet dog food or cat food with a sales price of $10 or less per can or pouch or the equivalent if sold in a box or case
The number of items that can be purchased during the sales tax holiday is unlimited. Items purchased online will be sales tax-exempt if the order is placed during the qualifying period.

Florida’s annual Disaster Preparedness Sales Tax Holiday gives residents some relief as they get their storm kits together.
