--Cipher Genetic Info Update--
As many of you know, I first hatched Ciphers out of my pure Marble Eye groups back in 2015. Since then, I've spent many years trying to separate the ME and Cipher genes with no success. Either I am hitting lottery-level odds, or there is something else going on. Part of what has led to the confusion is that I have produced het ciphers that don't produce MEs when bred together, but when I take visual Ciphers from those pairings and breed them back to MEs, once again more MEs pop out. This has led me to hypothesize that Cipher is a mutated ME gene and that they both share the same locus, therefore making Cipher and ME multiple allele genes. If this is true, Cipher X ME will produce MEs, and hets from Cipher X wild type pairings will never produce MEs. I know this may sound very confusing, but it is similar to what we see with Gem and Mack Snows. Gems will never produce supers on their own, but when bred back to Mack, they interact and supers are produced. This leads us to believe that Gem and Mack are allelic with one another. One other confusing part is that Cipher X ME doesn't equal 100% visual MEs, so it seems to be a weaker connection only producing a certain number of visual MEs. These half-Cipher gene MEs can produce Ciphers and MEs when paired together. The next question is, if this is all true, does this mean we can now pair Eclipse to visual Ciphers or hets that come from Cipher X wild type? I'm still not quite sure on this answer yet. Sometimes a reverse-stripe Eclipse with solid eyes can look similar to a Cipher, so my instinct says they should probably not be bred together -- though there have undoubtably been many that already have. Again, this is just my current hypothesis, and I may be wrong and it's something else going on.
