With the Olympics bringing so much attention to proper tack fit the past couple of weeks, especially in regards to nosebands, another thing we need to talk about is halter fit - especially rope halters. Just like any other piece of tack, it is also so important to make sure your halters are adjusted correctly. Your rope halter should fit the SAME as your nylon & leather halters! The noseband should be high enough on the nose that it avoids sitting on the end of the delicate nasal bone. The noseband should also not be super big with the fiador knot hanging down low underneath the chin by the mouth, and the cheek pieces should be high on the cheeks and away from the eye. Your rope halter should fit like the first picture, the rest are common examples of poor fitting rope halters, which can be uncomfortable for the horse and can inhibits proper training signals.
