Tarma was so fun today! Despite being in raging heat over the new gelding (ugh), she was soft and willing and tried so hard during our lesson today. We practiced seeing how slow a trot to canter depart we could get, not letting her race into it.
We picked up the left lead just fine, but had a hard stop to the right the first time I asked; we both came apart a bit. No worries, we left that behind and worked on bend and speed control and tried again...and this time she used all her big horse muscles, grew about a foot in front of me and floated into the canter!!! Wooot!!! Look at us now, no more running into walls for us!
We "cooled out" with a quick lap around the orchards, where she gave me a wonderfully rhythmic and stretchy trot so we called it a day with a nice hose down (for both her and Benny) and her normal after work pep talk about how pretty and beautiful and wonderful she is ♥️👑
I also tried out my new Pride reins from Counter Canter Designs and I love them! I went for the 8 foot cause Tarma has a fairly short neck and I'm glad I did, so much less extra rein to deal with!
