Big Bones Canine Rescue is a 501(c)3 non-profit offering rescue services for dog breeds.Located in CO There's a pup for everyone here!

Big Bones Canine Rescue saves dogs of all breeds, sizes, ages and medical conditions. We require an application, reference check and a home visit. It is important to us that each of our dogs find their perfect family. Microchip, spay/neuter, and current shots are included with every adoption.

Clarabelle, (aka: Clara) was born 11/13/24. She is an adorable 11 week old Pitbull mix at a whopping 8 lbs! She is a typical happy and sweet puppy, eat, sleep, cuddle and play. She is also so soft!

Demi is a very sweet 9 week old Pitbull mix puppy, only around 9 lbs, who was rescued from Oklahoma. Sadly, her mom was a blue nose Pitbull that was tied to a chain in a yard, nearly starving. Unfortunately, all of Demi’s siblings didn’t make it, due to the cold.
Despite her horrific start to life, Demi loves people and other dogs. She enjoys watching TV and relaxing with her foster family. She is the ultimate cuddler. Clarabelle from the “Disney” litter is still waiting for her home!

She is learning the ropes in foster care, getting used to sleeping in a crate and working on her potty training.

How is it that this sweet little Dachshund does not have an adopter! Sapphire is about 5 years old and 15 pounds.

She may be shy at first meeting, but she warms up and is a major lap dog. She is great with other dogs. Loves to play and snuggle with them.

Her issue: she has a limp on her back leg, and she may have to have surgery down the line. As of right now, it’s something that can be managed with pain meds if needed, and joint supplement. She gets around great, uses stairs to get on the couch and bed.

Introducing John, an adorable 11 week old puppy from OK. This boy is smart! He is sleeping in a crate at night and working on potty training. His foster mom says he is a great balance of playful pup, to calm and respectful of the older dogs.

Her sweet nature shines through her shyness, making her a delightful companion. She's friendly to everyone she meets, warming up to them with her gentle demeanor. Mila is about 15 pounds and 1-2 years old. She looks like a Terrier mix, however, we did a DNA test on Handsome and no terrier was detected 🤷‍♀️His DNA:
25% Miniature Schnauzer
18% Maltese
15% Shih Tzu
7% Pomeranian
5% Chihuahua

Cherub and Amore are the biggest of the litter, almost triple the size of the others.
Handsome and Romeo are little fluffies. The others are looking like their mama.

Hubba Bubba- We’ve got a new fluffy boy who is sweeter than bubblegum!
Bubba is a 1-2 year old Pyrenees mix who loves to play (check out his cute antics in the videos on his profile)!
While Bubba is a bit slow to warm up, once he trusts you, he’s the goofiest sweetheart. Potty-trained, crate-trained, he’s a perfect gentleman! Meet Priscilla, a friendly and energetic dog with a heart of gold. Priscilla is guessed to be a Black Mouth Cur/Boxer mix, around 4 years old and the perfect size at 47 lbs! She came from Mexico and had her babies in the rescue, and is now looking for her forever home.
Priscilla is always ready for an adventure and loves going on long walks. This active and playful personality makes her the perfect companion for someone who loves to stay active, and explore the great outdoors. When a meeting was set up for Larry, little did we know that the family would adopt Vanilla as well!

These two got to go home with their new brother Jax, a BBCR alumni. They are loving their new mom and dad. They are being spoiled and learning how to be a part of a family. Larry was just meant to be a Larry, but Vanilla has a new name, Sugar.

Do you know what all of these dogs have in common? Well, besides the obvious of being just the cutest things ever, they were all saved because of fosters, and we really need more fosters.

Imagine the ones who have been left behind because there was no room. Will they get a chance? Will a spot open up for them in time to make the next transport to safety?

Imagine every dog on this picture and on our website, what if they didn’t get to come? Some dogs are pulled out of kill shelters literally hours before their deadline.

We have asked our volunteers to share their fostering experiences in the comments. If you have questions about fostering, ask in the comments. The biggest reason why people don’t foster is because they wouldn’t be able to give them up. Yes, sometimes it’s hard, but what hurts the most as a foster, is thinking about the dog who didn’t even get a chance. The ones who were left behind.

Pugsly is dreaming of a new family! Hard to believe that this little Pug hasn’t had an anyone want to meet him yet. He had surgery to remove his eye, and has recovered nicely. He is good with other dogs, friendly with people, would love to be a lap dog for a living. At 7 years old, he is pretty mellow. Little man Barton the yorkie is probably around 5 years old and he’s as sweet as can be. He’s getting used to enjoying life inside a cozy home and does well in his crate at night. Barton would thrive as an only dog or with animal siblings. He’s doing well with leash training but not fully house trained yet. Anything he lacks in basic manners he makes up for with enthusiasm. Lala is still waiting for her home! We understand why no one wants to meet her. Grouchy Chihuahuas don’t get a lot of interest, specially if they might snap at you on the first meeting. However, Lala just needs a day to get out of her scared state to become your best friend and lap dog. As you can see, she still has playful energy. Jasper is a Terrier mix around 3-5 years old and 15 pounds. He is very shy at first, but when he warms up after a day or so, he is your best friend. He loves to be petted and cuddled. Chester was found by a Good Samaritan roaming the streets in Denver. She got him to safety, and was able to track down his owners. They told her they didn’t want him anymore, so she reached out to us for help. Chester is a Maltese about 9 years old, 7 pounds. He is adorable! When he smiles at you, you can’t help but smile back. He is great with other dogs. If they want to play, he will chase them around the yard or do some wrestling. He is just a bit timid with people, but he does love to be petted and held.
