dedicated foster!
training!
Just another post to hopefully clarify some things.
Please also see the post that we made last night.
We cannot pull UNLESS WE HAVE FOSTERS THAT ARE ALREADY APPROVED!!! Everyone wants to wait until they are on the euthanasia list to say "I will foster, what do I need to do?" It takes at least 3 days to process a foster application and that's ONLY if your references get back to us when we reach out to them, then we have to get vet records, then we have to check if you own your home and verify that, or if you rent we have to try and track down your landlord to ask them if they allow dogs. So we suggest that if you want to help when a situation like this comes up, you fill out a foster app so it will be on file and ready to go for situations like this!! Don't wait til the night before, we can't do anything that quick. We want to save these dogs just as bad as everyone else but our hands are tied unless we have an already approved foster that is willing to take one AND committ to it for at least 3 months and work with them and take them to vet appointments and adoption events when they are ready, we have no backup fosters so if you have a vacation scheduled or anything to where you will be gone for a bit, we can't help. It's a huge commitment and people don't understand that. Even when school starts back up, you have to keep fostering the dog, even if it doesn't get along with your dogs or cats or kids, you have to keep fostering them, we have no where else for them to go. Sad but true. It's sad times we are living in but until backyard breeders are stopped and spay and neuters are enforced, this is what we have to deal with. If you can't commit to it, then I suggest you stop following these pages, this is reality. Now, I'm going to go help the ones that we have and that our fosters are working with, also, I'm going to look for trainers that will work with the ones that have been stuck in boarding for 6 months.

UPDATE: Surgery goal met 🎉 Wow! Thank you!!!!!
Meet our newest intake, Candy 🍬
Candy was surrendered to a shelter dragging her paw 😢 She went to Catoosa Small Animal Hospital and it has been determined that the nerves have been severed and the leg cannot be saved. Tomorrow 6/12 she will have surgery to amputate and be spayed. The quote of 1,100.00 was given to us. We had a foster step up so we couldn't say no, obviously we are hoping for a little help from our community. She is only 5 months old. Don't worry Candy! We got you now!! 🎉

🇺🇸 Y’all! We did it again!! 🇺🇸
Our Veterans program kicked off on February 29th 2024 and to date, this is the 3rd dog that we paired with a Veteran, completely free. If y'all are loving this program like we are.... stay tuned for a huge fundraiser we will be doing in order to help MORE Veterans and get MORE dogs adopted! Much thanks to our partners G.I. Wishes/A Pet For A Vet Foundation and Torchlight K9
What is your name?
Roxanne Wolf
Where did you serve and for how long?
USAF Connon AFB, NM. I was in the military for 5 years.
What do you do now?
I’m attending college at OCCC. I plan on attending OU for my Bachelor’s in Social work.
How did you find out about The Veterans Program?
My husband found a Facebook post on Oklahoma veterans page. He told me about ShamRock and we were interested in helping out with the Veterans program.
Which eligible dog did you adopt? Why?
Malibu is the dog I chose because she is very fun to play with and she is such a happy and smart dog.
How do you think this professionally trained K9 Companionship will help you as a Veteran?
I think that having a professionally trained dog will help me when I’m in public settings. I have anxiety and I feel better when I have a dog go to love on. I think she will learn helpful skills to keep me calm when I get anxious. Like making space or watching my 6.
Anything you want to share with Veterans interested in applying to our program?
If you are thinking about getting a dog from the program, do it! This is a very worthwhile way to help a rescue dog find a loving home and you get a best friend. The training is an added bonus for you and the dog. The bond you will build is going to be so worth it.
Anything else?
I am so grateful to be chosen to adopt a dog through this program. I’ve been wanting a dog with the ability to be trained to help with my anxiety for a very long time. This has been a positive and fun experience. Thank you!
Y'all might remember Malibu, we sav
🐾 **Thank You to Our Incredible Team!** 🐾
To our dedicated fosters, tireless volunteers, and compassionate supporters,
We owe you a debt of gratitude that words can hardly express. Your unwavering commitment to the Oklahoma German Shepherd Rescue is the heartbeat of our organization. From the late-night cuddles to the early morning walks, from crafting compelling bios to organizing unforgettable events, your passion for our furry friends shines through in every action.
Because of you, countless dogs have found loving homes, and their tails wag with joy once more. Your selflessness knows no bounds, and we are endlessly grateful for the love and care you pour into every dog that crosses our path.
Without the volunteers whom spent countless hours at our boarding facility with Dax, the feral Malinois; an amazing team that let him decompress at their facility; trainers who dedicated their free time and space to acclimate him to a home; and his amazing fosters who have committed to a hard long-term foster; our rescue would not have been able to take Dax, sentencing him to a life on the streets or worse. It took a village to get Dax to this point in his journey and will take a village to finish his journey.
As we continue our mission to rescue and rehome German Shepherds in need, we urge the community to join us in our efforts. If fostering is within your means, we welcome you with open arms. And if fostering isn't possible, there are countless ways to make a difference, from volunteering your time to spreading awareness to spending time hanging out with pups.
Together, we can make a profound impact on the lives of these deserving dogs. Thank you for being the heroes they need and for embodying the spirit of compassion in everything you do. Please reach out to us if you feel you can help our rescue in anyway!
