Doggy ear defenders 🎧 have been a game changer.. head over to and check out the Hush M**f! 🐶

Also, Dognip and Valerian Root from have been game-changers for my noise-sensitive foster dog, Basil the JRT 🌿

This isn’t an ad—just a heartfelt recommendation for products that have truly helped Basil.

The other night, fireworks were going off while he was outside for a toilet break. Thanks to all the above, he managed to stay calm, even ate every time we heard a bang! And went to the toilet! This is huge progress 💥🎉

Before using these tips and products, he was a panting, stressed-out mess. Now, he’s so much more relaxed…. As am I!! 👌

Thank you so much, and I hope this helps others! 🥰

Please share to spread the word. I know firsthand how upsetting it is to see your dog stressed out by loud noises. It doesn’t have to be this way 💔

Remember to work with a professional, as dog training is a fine art and skill. I’m here to support you on your journey too! 🫶

I could talk about this topic all day and I won’t get into how to desensitise using recordings as it’s too complex and specific to explain here - I’ve seen people make it worse doing this without a professional too 🫣

I can cherry pick the advice that I see is the easiest for you and your dog plus prevent issues with pups 🙌

Meet Lenny 🐾

When he started with us, he had no recall, zero focus, was pulling on-lead, reactive towards all dogs, wouldn’t eat outside …

But NOW he engages nicely on-lead and we can carefully introduce him to females and neutured males (to be clear, dogs, not humans 😆)

Don’t get me wrong - he still has an off day (don’t we all?!) eg after the vets and the groomers in the same week he needed some decompression time, but the following week he bounced back and was back to being a total superstar! ⭐️

Lenny had been to trainers that called him “dominant” and “very confident” but that’s so wrong! He’s the biggest softy - he chooses to shout when he’s scared 😅

He’s been walking with us for ages but only had 2 official training sessions - I’m SO proud of our progress and super excited to see the results after a whole year of training 👏

Well done Lenny 🧡

Complete honesty, I wrote this months ago and only brave enough to post now 🫣

He was in such a bad place when i first met him, he didn’t want to leave the house. He was a bite risk to people, animals and especially bin men.

He was TERRIFIED of everything and chose attack or to shut down or run home. His wonderful owners who worked so hard with me to rehab him passed away and Basil was heartbroken.

He was a mess and in turn I was a mess. I was all consumed to help him. I was overthinking. Overanalysing. All the time.

It wasn’t doing me any good.

——

I just want to highlight the importance here of self care for you

——

I have been working on myself so I can show up for basil better.

I can handle if he has an off day. That’s ok I know we are at this stage in our journey to squeeze the last little bits of his stress out 🧡

so proud of us both 🧡

And special thank you to Bev (basils late humama) for being my biggest cheerleader and supporter 🌈 this still spurs me on when I need a boost now ✨

I never know how to end these things, but I know I’m supposed to say like, share, or follow 😆

It is greatly appreciated if you do 🥰

When we first brought basil our foster Jack Russell home, no one wanted him after his lovely owners passed away 🌈

He has a bite history so I couldn’t face knowing he would go into a rescue, as he would be high risk of being pts 💔

He was really hard work, he was barking at anything and everything 🗣️

He was not good with people, dogs and was showing guarding struggles 😾

He could not chill or relax 🛏️

He was crying out for help 🆘

I had to leave the house in order for him to sleep! 🫣

Not sleeping enough can have huge side effects for humans - never mind dogs! 😾

They should be sleeping / resting for 14-20 hours per day depending on age 💤

Side effects of not enough sleep:
🗣️ Barking at things they wouldn’t normally
🦷 Mouthing, biting
🤯 Scatty - increased anxiety

❓How much better do you feel after a good nights sleep?

If your dog feels good, they will be better behaved 🪄

If your dog is struggling with something, they will act up 🫣

Please share 🥰 we are on a mission to help as many doggos as we can 🧡

Hi, I’m Lyndsey, face behind It’s Simply The Pets 👋

I am totally animal mad & have been since the day I was born!

When it comes to training with us, you can expect 👉

🧡 A kind ethos towards your beloved pets AND you

🧡 A realistic approach. I’ll never judge when it all gets too much. (We have been fostering a very quirky boy called Basil so I understand first-hand how challenging it can be)

🧡 The best for your dogs. I’m a fully qualified Hoopers instructor (low impact agility for dogs), certified dog trainer, studied animals at college, uni and am OBSESSED with ongoing learning to deliver you the best.

We love helping with 👉

⭐️ CONFIDENCE (both for owners and dogs) whether working around dogs, people, noises - whatever you’re struggling with, we can help!

⭐️ LEAD-WALKING - for some breeds this will be a lifestyle you need to uphold and maintain, but for others it’s as easy as a couple of little tweaks.

⭐️ RECALL - off-lead freedom is just the best and watching dogs running about the beach or a field with no worry about them never coming back is what we want to help you achieve!

⭐️ We are also known for our professional PUB DOG TRAINING 😂 Nothing beats heading to a lovely country pub after a nice walk with a chilled pup by your feet.

⭐️ PUPPIES!!! Prevention is better than cure so we can start them off right. Lots of people come to us when they have a new dog as they worry they will end up reactive again like their pets before. We can see the warning signs and set you off on the right track.

Want to work with us? 👉

🦴 We have weekly group Hoopers classes & limited 1:1 availability for reactive dogs that struggle in group settings.

🦴 Lifeskills classes are where we practice training games around distractions to help with lovely lead walking and becoming a professional pub dog 😆

🦴 We also do 121 Virtual Training so no matter where you are in the world - we can support you.

So whether you’re looking to:
🏠 Have a more peaceful home life
🐾 Get back to enjoying walks
🐶 Prepare your pup to be the dog of your dreams

… I can’t wait to help you! 🤩

Bonfire Night isn’t until tomorrow but firework displays are already in full swing … 🎆

Here’s some of our top tips to help your pups (and your sanity) get through the weekend 👇

1️⃣ CALM ACTIVITIES:

Make use of kongs, licki mats, snuffle mats, and long-lasting chews to keep your pup occupied and happy.

2️⃣ DROWN THEM OUT:

Appliances are your best friend this weekend. Get your music on, put on the washing machine, dishwasher… I’ll have everything on 🤣

3️⃣ LONG-TERM:

If you dread this weekend every year, why not enlist professional support to desensitise your dog to loud noises? I’m working on this with our Basil right now so I understand what you’re going through 🙏

4️⃣ MEDS:

One to consult your Vet on! We do NOT recommend ACP but others are great. Message us for a free a free flowchart to help with this 🤞

Good luck & love to you and your pups! 🐾

I think it's strange that dogs get called naughty, bad or blamed for their natural behaviour.

It's even odder to me that dogs are usually the last one in the household to be considered.

They are just expected to fit in and have no opinions.

Then when they cry out for their needs to be met in one way or another, a trainer is fetched in.

Then the dog becomes the sentient victim of the vast uneducated dog trainer lottery.

Then if they are unlucky the poor dog is exposed to one of those 'broken people dog trainers' who focus only on results so work through threats and force.

In barely no time at all, a desperate animal who has been asking for help in the only way he knows how, is put into the hands of a disconnected brute of a human with a prong collar and a big scary voice.

The dog learns that when they ask for help they are threatened.

They learn that pain is the response to them trying to stay safe.

That dog learns when they are scared, they just have to push it all back inside because of the brute standing over them, or the metal spikes around their neck.

This is not good enough!

We have the capacity to be so much better than this!

We have enough access to education to know that bullying isn't teaching!

We have known for decades that dogs are emotional and sentient animals.

We have intuition and instinct to know that it's wrong to push a vulnerable animal around.

WE know that it's wrong.

YOU know in your heart that it's wrong.

So why the hell are you still doing it?

(Note from the writer - well I escalated quickly 😅)

Middle - why is this one of my favourite training games? 👇

First reason - it’s fun. Training is useless unless you enjoy it. If you don’t enjoy it you won’t keep it up. And consistency is the most important thing with dogs and progress 🔑

There are so many layers to this training game too, I always say to clients we start at level 1 and in time the options are endless… catch in middle, middle on the move. Middle around distractions. Turns and pivots in middle, which make your heelwork turns nicer. Middle in reverse to teach your dog to back up. Changing your speed (walk, run, slow) which again helps for lead walking.

It’s also an amazing recall option - Hudson FLIES when I say middle. He’s a bit ignorant when I say his name to be honest as I over use his name on the daily 🤣

We literally do 4-10 reps randomly throughout our week. Yes that’s how little. He loves it 💨

There are sooooo many adaptations and so many reason why I would recommend this game to clients.

It builds up amazing focus, it encourages eye contact and being close to owners. So not only does it help with recall it can help your dog naturally have a better loose lead walk as they just enjoy being closer to you.

It becomes like a portable place cue - you can build up amazing self control around distractions using this as your game to unlock tug of war or whatever you and your dog enjoy the most 🥳

It can become your dogs safe place. Plus it’s really damn obvious you don’t want to introduce your dog to someone else if you do it. It also can be amazing for those dogs that bark at you everytime you stop walking 🤣 👀

What’s your fave training game with your dog? Let us know in the comments 👇

My vets are amazing and even they told me Hudson was sound when he first had his injury 6 months ago.

Excited to build up his strength now he’s had 6 months of lead walks 🥰

Border Collie Genetic Conditions that can influence behaviour and training.

HIP DYSPLASIA

The majority of the dogs I see with some intense behavioural issues end up also back to the vet and being diagnosed with some physical issue that comes with pain.

Pain makes any behaviour worse, have you ever experienced yourself dogs days of head or neck pain that makes you grumpy and angry with the world?

Hip dysplasia is a common condition in Border Collies that affects the hip joint. It is a genetic condition that can cause the hip joint to develop abnormally, leading to pain, stiffness, and difficulty walking or running.

The hip joint is a ball-and-socket joint that connects the hind leg to the pelvis. In dogs with hip dysplasia, the ball and socket do not fit together properly, which can cause the joint to become loose and unstable. Over time, this can lead to wear and tear on the joint, causing pain and inflammation.

Hip dysplasia can be diagnosed through a physical exam and imaging tests, such as x-rays or an MRI. Treatment may include medication to manage pain and inflammation, physical therapy to improve muscle strength and mobility, and surgery to repair or replace the hip joint.

Preventing hip dysplasia in dogs involves selecting breeding pairs with healthy hips and providing proper nutrition and exercise to help maintain healthy joint development. Regular veterinary check-ups can also help detect and manage the condition early on.

Sometimes even the best effort are not enough and good breeders can still produce HD even if they try their best but tested parents will give you the best shot at having a healthy puppy that will develop in a healthy and stable dog.

Follow to learn more about Border Collie genetic predisposition that can effect your dog behaviour and that you need to be aware of.
