Independence Day is one week from today, and it is THE number one holiday where the most pets become lost from their homes. When is the last time you checked that your pet's identification is up-to-date?

It is important to check information ahead of time, and if needed, to update as necessary. Many owners tend to forget to update the microchip registration information, especially after moving, transfer of ownership, new cell phone number etc... Also make sure your pet's collar that it fits properly (not too loose or too tight), check for wear-and-tear, and if it needs to be replaced. Last but not least, check your pet's name tag/information tag. Is it still legible? Phone numbers need updated?

In the event your dog or cat gets lost (hopefully not!), at least safeguarding them with updated contact information can get them back home to you faster. Please take today, or even no later than tomorrow, to check all this.

Raise your paws for some good news! As of April 4th, we have partially reopened our clinic! Please read below for the breaking news:

Dear Valued Clients,

First, we would like to say that we have been thinking about each and every one of you, and your little four-legged friends during these unprecedented times. We hope that you all have continued to stay safe and healthy. As we try to return and adjust to our new normal after the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic, we are pleased to announce that we are beginning the process of reopening. Our goal is to open gradually, so it is the safest transition possible for you, our valued client, and for our staff.

How we are reopening:

1.) At this time we will only be offering clients with scheduled appointments the option to have their pet’s visit in-person. If the in-person option is chosen, then before entering the facility you will receive a temperature check and must be wearing a mask at all times.

2.) We will also only be allowing one person to enter the facility along with the pet(s) at a time.

3.) Please call us when you arrive in the parking lot. Once you have been checked in, our veterinary technicians will call you to take your pets medical history over the phone. You will then be instructed to meet at the red door with your pet, and our staff will es**rt you into a freshly sanitized exam room. Once your pet has been examined by the doctor, an estimate has been presented, treatments have been approved, and deposit has been taken, your pet will be brought to the treatment area for diagnostics, and/or treatments. At this time you will be asked to wait outside while these tasks are being performed.

In addition to this protocol, we will also be taking the following precautions:

1.) We will be following guidelines from Pasadena’s public health department, as well as recommendations from the CDC.

2.) Our staff will continue to follow all safety protocols that have been in place, including wearing the proper PPE at all times.

3.) We are limiting the amount of clients we have in the facility at one time.

4.). Our staff will sanitize and disinfect all shared spaces, and high touch areas frequently.

5.) Most importantly, we ask if you are feeling sick to stay home and reschedule your appointment.

We ask all our clients to be patient during this gradual transition of reopening. We understand that all the clinics in our area are experiencing a high volume of patients, and we are doing our best to accommodate each one of our clients. Again our goal is to do so in the safest environment possible. AAECP will continue to closely monitor the situation, and make the appropriate adjustments to our protocols when needed.

Thank you all for your cooperation and understanding. If you have specific question not addressed here or on our website, please feel free to reach out to us via phone at 626-578-1725 or email us at [email protected]

We look forward to seeing you,

The Doctors and staff at Animal AM-Emergency Clinic of Pasadena

I believe most of us can relate to cats on this notion. ;)

Study finds ‘contrafreeloading’ rare in domestic cats. When given the choice between a free meal and performing a task for a meal, cats would prefer the meal that doesn’t require much effort. While that might not come as a surprise to some cat lovers, it does to cat behaviorists. Most animals ...

There is an outbreak of not only leptospirosis among dogs, but now we have influenza, too. We are in the process of having these vaccines available for your dog(s) at our hospital to curb the spread. If your dog comes in-contact with other dogs (via walks, doggy daycare, dog parks etc...), shares water bowls, common space etc..., then it is imperative to get these vaccines as soon as possible. Please SHARE this post to spread the word.

At busy boarding facilities, doggy day cares, and even local parks, dogs of all ages are now contracting a loud and debilitating cough. One veterinarian told the NBC4 I-Team the cough is so bad, “it will keep everyone in the house awake at night.”

URGENT! We all ask of you to SHARE this information far and wide!

There is an ongoing outbreak of leptospirosis in dogs occurring throughout Los Angeles County. There are amount of high cases occurring nearby in the city of Monrovia. Due to the situation, we are now recommending and offering the lepto vaccine to our annual vaccination protocol. Please have your dog(s) vaccinated against this disease that is highly contagious between dog-to-dog.

Leptospirosis, a bacterial infection that can cause kidney failure, is becoming an epidemic for dogs on the west side of LA County.

The pandemic has made it tough on everyone, including veterinary hospitals.

It’s likely due to the rise in pet adoptions during the coronavirus pandemic. Gordon Tokumatsu reports for the NBC4 News on Tuesday, July 27, 2021.
