Let’s talk about it…
Last year this farmer received £13 for his wool…
This doesn’t even come close to covering the cost of shearing the sheep. A lot of farmers are throwing away there wool because ‘it’s to much hassle and worth nothing anyway.’

It’s wrong that wool is worth next to nothing.

Wool is durable, flexible, flame and water resistance. It’s variety of uses means very little is wasted. It is also sustainable, renewable and biodegradable, making it an environmentally friendly option.

In 2010 wool was worth £1.50/kg.
2021 it was £0.30/ kg…
It’s looking like prices may rise, but still only to £0.36/kg.

In 2020 there was 70 thousand tons of wool produced in the UK. The sheep have to be shorn for their welfare so why aren’t we using their fleeces more?

May is birthday month here at 4mares, first with Blue turning 5 today, she's grown into a awesome little mare (takes after her grandma). Now we have last year's issues out of the way I can properly get her started/going again.

The Western Rider

My horsemanship journey has been hugely influenced by my two mentors Joe Wolter and Anna Bonnage and other great horseman such as Bill and Tom Dorrance, Ray Hunt, Harry Whitney, and Richard Caldwell. I strive to work with the horse through feel and timing, looking to create and build a softness in the horse both mentally and physically helping them to be confident in themselves and the human. I believe if you allow the horse choices and to have some of the responsibility within the horse/human relationship you create a horse that is a proud and willing partner.
