Update: adopted by his foster family! ❤️.

Welcome our little Purina guy!
He has such a story! Found in a trash compactor at the Purina factory, transferred to the shelter, treated for pancreatitis-- he can finally relax in the loving foster home (that we hope would end up being a forever home 🤫).

Unbelievable 😢, please beware of those scammers!

Scammers are playing Grinch on owners of lost pets this holiday season!

A number of residents have come to DAS looking for their lost pets because they received a phone call from someone saying their lost pet is at the shelter and needs emergency surgery after being hit by a car. But the scammer says before the shelter will begin treating their pet, they need a $500 deposit. They say that money must be paid via a credit card over the phone. DAS will never take a payment over the phone, only in person.

Potential victims say the scammer’s phone number comes up as 311—Denver’s main information number—which makes them think the call is legit.

It’s likely the scammers are finding their potential victims through lost pet social media sites, like PawBoost and 24HourPetconnect. It is here that people who have lost pets post about their missing dog or cat, along with their phone number, in hopes someone finds their furry family members and returns them.

This is a scam DAS saw several months ago but appears to be rekindled.

The scam is also impacting other shelters in the metro area, including the Buddy Center in Castle Rock, where scammers asked for $1,300. The caller ID on a pet owner’s phone showed up as the Buddy Center, which it wasn’t.

It’s recommended if you lose a dog or cat to post only on reputable lost pet community sites, use only your first name and contact information. Also, continuously check area animal shelter websites for lost pets, which are updated hourly. Post lost pet signs in your neighborhood. Also, to make it easier to return lost pets home, make sure they’re licensed, are wearing an ID tag and are microchipped.

And if someone calls to say they have your pet at a shelter and they demand money, hang up and call the shelter yourself to verify.

Losing a pet can be a painful, distressing situation. Scammers are counting on these frantic emotions to inflict even further pain by stealing your money. Don’t let them get away with it.

Happy Holidays, everyone!

CACF had a very busy (and very challenging) year.

To close down 2024 successfully, we need to bring in 3 more dogs we committed to save. Their stories broke my heart and I just couldn't say no. One was a stray on the brink of starvation, second was attacked by other dogs at the shelter. Third was a stray, people were throwing rocks at him to make him go away but he stayed near them anyway... We need to get them to safety!
We also sponsor feeding, vetting, transport, boarding and spay-neuter of stray dogs. So many got off the streets because of that. But we are getting low on funds, we didn't do fundraising this year and now we need it. Vetting cost is taking 80% of our budget, it's been a tough year financially due to the high cost of vetting.

Our rescue is 100% volunteer based and 501c3 non profit, every penny gets spent on animals in need and only! If you would like a tax receipt for your donation, please email us [email protected]

Update: Adopted!!!

Princess, 1 y.o. spayed female, is ready for adoption! Fees are $375.
Calling all daschund lovers. Princess has all of the daschund characteristics. She is loving and protective at the same time. She insists on snuggling under the covers with her person. She really enjoys her daily walks, but could use some leash training. She barks loud, so apartments may not be the best home for her. She is looking for a patient owner who can commit time to her. Strangers are a bit scary for her, so a low traffic home is best.

Our incredible foster team deserves a special thank you! They endure sleepless nights, frequent vet appointments, countless meds, and abundant cleaning. Happy tears of joy when their toughest cases find the perfect home. Sometimes, sad tears when their foster doesn't make it despite their best efforts. FOSTERING is all about saving lives ❤️. So thank you, friends! ❤️❤️❤️.

Adopted!!!
Meet Kesha, 5 month old very sweet Maltese boy, 5.8 lbs now. He beat nasty pneumonia like a champ, got clean bill of health and ready to find his forever home! And look how handsome he is after grooming!
Kesha is neutered, current on shots and chipped.
He loves everyone- kids, other dogs, cats. He loves being held and to sit on your lap. Potty training is in the progress but not 100% yet. He would love to be with someone who is home a lot, he doesn't like to be alone.

Adopted!!!
Look at these adorable purebred huskies! They are ready for adoption and haven’t had any applications.

Both are females. The brown girl is named Suzie. She loves her people and lots of belly rubs, she is 3 months old. Does well with other dogs as well!
The silver and black girl’s name is Xena. She has such a sweet disposition and loves people and other dogs.
