It’s been a hot minute since we did a #DuckFaceFriday!
Featured this week is a female Faery Fawn Runner duck. Isn’t she gorgeous? 😍

So this is how we are spending all these cold and snowy days.. Our birds have lots of space, dry bedding and thrive through winter.
How many breeds and varieties of birds do you see? HINT: a lot!
That time when I could hold one of our Sebastopol geese in the palm of my hand 🥺

Oh hey! 👋🏼
Just dropping in to say we’re still here and so are the ducks.
We’re busy building things and adding waterlines to make life a little easier around here so social media kind of fell by the wayside.
Also kind of hard to make new content when your phone battery dies so quickly in the cold 😂
Hope you are all well!

The ducks and chickens believe in snacks before dinner, and how can I say “no”? 🦆
Also it’s not like I can stop them...I am not the boss here 😉
Draining water from the wheat before adding the supplements for ‘dinner time’. We feed either fermented or soaked whole grains as the bulk of their diet.
Geoffrey is a bathroom hog 🛁
But hey, when you wear white, you gotta be diligent!

I just love Holstein Ducks! 🐄
I mean Ancona. It’s an Ancona duckling.
Introducing.... our newest breed at the farm the Khaki Campbell! This breed is special to us because it is composed of pure Holderread genetics and is a recreation of Dave's Campbells of the past.
We think there is something awesome about bringing the past back to life. ❤

Super fresh! 🐣
Meet a recently hatched Blue Fawn Pencilled Runner duckling (wow...lots of names)
This colour is from a Pencilled with a single dose of blue. It’s parents could either be Fawn and White x Pencilled or two Blue Fawn Pencilled.
Welcome our newest Shetland gosling to the world! 🐣 Mom and Dad incubated this one naturally.
We maintain a primary flock of 50 Shetland geese which come from the most genetically diverse and most fertile adult groups from the Holderread flock.
Our geese were handpicked for us with an emphasis on high fertility. Fortunately because of the genetics we were blessed with we do not experience any fertility issues that other farms have experienced.
Our goal as always is to maintain a large primary flock and award ‘golden tickets’ to dedicated breeders to own some of our flock.
Hey everyone! Happy #DuckFaceFriday! 🎉
Today’s cuteness is brought to you by this day old Saxony duckling. We love our Saxony ducks, they are so comical! 🐣
Gosling party.
What song do you think should be playing? 😁 These are our older goslings enjoying some night club ambiance!
We run a variety of different setups depending on the birds and age groups. During the day in our goose barn we heat with passive solar and at night we use a lot of small wattage bulbs to ensure our birds spread out and thrive. Remember if a bulb burns out its a low percentage of their total warmth and light source. We also heat with low wattage brooder panels and these are AMAZING for younger birds.
Think different.
