Sweet ALICE will be looking for a new home as soon as she gets checked out by our vet. She will be vaccinated and started on flea and heartworm prevention as well. Then, her plan is to wiggle her way into someone's heart.
ALICE is 10 years old and some sort of mixed breed, little dog. If I had to guess, I'd say Silky Terrier and miniature poodle blend. Her fur is super fine and whispy, but also has curls in places. She's got about 3 inches of feathery hairs off the tips of her ears. And she's probably one of the sweetest dogs I've ever met. She's been sleeping with me at night and she isn't a bed hog. She doesn't snore. She gets around VERY well for a senior dog and she follows me everywhere. She wants to be right next to me or in my lap if I'm sitting. She's amazing.
She is missing quite a few teeth and can only eat wet food...which she thoroughly enjoys. She's a bit boujie and prefers the kind in the little individual cups that look like shredded meat...lol. She will definitely need regular grooming and brushing.

Okay. It's Glory Story time.
This little fluffy butt hasn't had it easy. She was adopted from us 10 years ago as a dinky pup. She was part of the Friends litter, and her name was PHOEBE. The precious woman who adopted her named her ALICE. She was part of a 3 dog and one pig household for the last decade. Unfortunately, her owner died a couple of months ago, and her life was thrown into chaos. She ended up with a family member who didn't want to and had no idea how to care for a dog. Her physical condition deteriorated quickly and she arrived to us this week as a matted hit mess with fleas galore. The mats were big and were pulling her skin in odd directions. She was in a lot of pain. I spent hours clipping mats out with scissors and bathing her.
But oh......after that bath. Sweet girl was feeling much better and was so joyful and bouncy. Just a little effort and she was a completely different dog.
It got me to thinking about all the storms in our own lives that smack us out of the blue. We might be hurting and depressed. Our physical condition is effected and we feel weak. Our mental state might be in the toilet. Then along comes someone who sees our pain and misery. They give us a bit of attention and unconditional love. All of a sudden, we're feeling a bit brighter. It just took some love from a friend.
We all need friends like that. We all need to BE a friend like that. Imagine all the pain and suffering we could dispel in this world if we had more compassion and love for others.
My goal this week is to BE that kind of friend for someone. Who's with me?
Happy Sunday friends!

HOORAY!
Let's shout it from the rooftops.
LONDON and CHARLIE have been officially adopted...TOGETHER!!!
So many have been hoping and praying for homes for these angels. Especially LONDON. She's waited 19 months for a real home. Now we can finally say, "Happily ever after."
I know many of you were waiting for CHARLIE to become available. But with all my moving and the pair going into foster with my friends, Kara and David, everything just worked out perfectly. The dynamic duo are VERY well loved already. Now they're going to thrive.
Their Momma has started them a page so all their fans can follow this next season for them. It's called "London and Jellyroll aka Lolo Bean and Sir Lix a Lot". Go follow their page for all the pics, videos and updates!
Happy Tails LONDON and CHARLIE...kna Jellyroll!

What a sad, SAD story. This angel was adopted from us over a decade ago. Thank God for rescuers like Paula with Amazing Grace. We were both contacted by a woman a few weeks ago about 2 dogs she had found. When she took the dogs to the address on the collar, a neighbor said the owner had passed away suddenly in June. I personally knew the owner and was so shocked. Paula and I were just chatting yesterday and realized we'd both been working on the same rescue. We also knew aside from the 2 dogs that were found, the owner had this girl from us as well as a pig that lived inside. It's taken weeks to track down family and find out what happened to PHOEBE. Paula was able to locate and contact the brother of the deceased. Turns out, the owners brother had her and was not able to keep her, so clearly we said we'd take her back. I was heartbroken when I saw her condition. This sweet girl has mats on all her legs, and her rear end is a giant mess of matted hair and f***s. Her story is sad, and I'm sure she's confused. But she's friendly, loving and loves to be held. She's also sat for nearly an hour letting me cut mats of fur out. Some were so tight that her skin was pulling in odd directions and it seemed very painful. She's already feeling better. I'll work some more on the mats and then give her a nice oatmeal bath. Paula already gave her a capstar for the flea infestation. By tomorrow morning, she'll be a whole new dog...lol.
Welcome to rescue PHOEBE.

CHARLIE is feeling pretty good today, according to the doc. We're so happy. He's going to stay at the vet for observation for the day and then will be picked up late afternoon. He'll have to stay calm and chillaxed for the next few days, but is definitely on the mend.

CHARLIE Update
All signs pointed to an obstruction, so CHARLIE was taken into surgery. However, there was nothing found in his stomach or intestines. Weird, I know. However, his foster Mom had sent me a Pic this morning of his last throw up. It contained what is believed to be a Rawhide-free chew he had early in the week. The suspicion is that the chew didn't digest and caused a blockage. Hence, the refusing food and throwing up the last couple of days. He was also VERY tender in his abdomen and cried with any pressure. Luckily, he was finally able to vomit it up just prior to me rushing him to the vet. The surgery wasn't necessary, but we had no way of knowing that because, as I said before, ALL signs pointed to obstruction... even the x-ray. But the anesthesia wasn't wasted. Dr. Weekley went ahead and neutered him since he was already under. We're so thankful for our amazing Vets and staff.
CHARLIE has to spend the night in the hospital for observation and injectable meds. We will have another update in the morning. Thank you for all your prayers. Our house hippo is going to be okay.

If everyone could, please say a little prayer for CHARLIE today. He is at the get with a possible obstruction. He began throwing up a bit 2 days ago and has progressed to not wanting to eat. This morning, he threw up several times. Don't worry about the bright blue puke...that's from his meds he's on already. But in his last pile, there seems to be something squishy and semi-solid in it. Hea also VERY tender in his abdomen. So he's been dropped off at the vet for a barium study and xrays. Poor guys just can't catch a break.
We shall keep you updates as we can. But please send a prayer his way.
Thanks!

CHARLIE Update.
Well, our hefty boy wasn't able to be neutered this week. Due to his heartworm treatment, he's been coughing a lot and had to go on bronchiodialators to help ease it. So it will likely be another couple weeks before he can have surgery. Sorry for the delay, but we are always going to do what's in the best interest of the dog.
The good news is, CHARLIE and LONDON are still having a great time at their foster home. They truly enjoy being in a home and getting all the attention...lol.
Stay tuned for more updates!

You didn't think you'd escape a Sunday without a Glory Story, did ya?
It's been a busy weekend. LONDON and CHARLIE, the last two PRR rescues, are with our good friends, Kara and David, for the weekend. I had a lot of yard work, moving and packing going on, and the gates to the yard were open a great deal. So, the fur kids were sent off to safety so they wouldn't have to endure the chaos. On top of that, my husband finally moved out. And my son was volunteering as a waiter/greeter for a dinner theater.
Last night, when I finally got showered and was climbing into bed, I expected to feel hurt and alone. There's been quite a bit of devastation in my life lately. Now Im in this great big house alone. I pray-pared for this moment days in advance as I knew it was coming. I just KNEW the loneliness and grief would come crashing in like a wrecking ball. I was even steeling myself for the impact.
But it didn't come.
As I tucked myself in, grabbed my current book, and put my glasses on, I felt absolute peace. I layed my book to the side and bowed my head.
I said, "Thank you Lord, for being my rock. Thank you for carrying me when I could barely stand. Thank you for calming the storm and allowing me to rest. Thank you for your grace when I failed and your encouragement when I slayed it. Thank you."
Then I scooched down into my covers, told Alexa to turn the light off and the fan on, and I slept...like a rock.
The moral of the story is this: Sometimes God isn't going to remove your storm. You must learn to endure it. But if you'll pay attention, He will teach you how to have peace IN the storm. You just have to be still.
Have a fabulous week, friends. I hope it's filled with adventure.

Ha ha ha ha ha! I finally caught a picture of CHARLIE where he isn't smiling. Of course, he had just woken up from a nap...lol.
This hefty, heartworm positive meat-head is such a love muffin. He makes friends with everyone he meets...whether they like it or not. He's pretty perfect.
I know a lot of you are waiting on pins and needles for when he becomes available for adoption. It'll be soon as he hopefully gets neutered next week, and everything else checks out okay. Do keep in mind a few things, though. CHARLIE is a chunky boy with narrow sinuses. He cannot tolerate the heat for more than 10-15 minutes. He is powerful and VERY wiggly. He would definitely be a fall risk for an unstable person or small child. Not out of meanness, but out of wing-nutty-ness. Also, he will require a secure and stable fenced yard. He will most definitely go gallivanting and visiting the neighbors if given the chance. He's super social.
We are not yet accepting applications for this guy. Once he's fully vetted, we will make a post to the page. Stay tuned.

I don't know what's cuter: Regular CHARLIE or CHARLIE the Lion?
Our chunky love muffin is feeling so much better now that he's completed his medicines. His leg is no longer swollen, and there's no limp. He's a happy, happy boy.
Hopefully, CHARLIE will be neutered next week and then can move on to his "happily ever after". This guy has been through soooooo much and is lucky to be alive.
Stay tuned for more pupdates!

Pardon my giggles, laughs and cackles. I just can't help myself when two hefty house hippos are arguing over who gets our volunteer, Mark's, attention. He tried to tell them he's not involved, but CHARLIE tested that theory...lmbo!!!

This week's Glory Story comes from no other than the fabulous meat-head, CHARLIE. He never fails to impress me with his wisdom at random times because, for the most part, he is an absolute der-duh-der...lol. He's absolutely perfect, but he's not usually the sharpest tool in the shed.
I was sitting at my desk area with pen in hand. I'd spent the morning packing up linens and rescue supplies to donate to other local rescues. In the middle of this, I had an idea that I needed to make a list of my needs and future plans. Yes, I have ADHD and this happens frequently in the midst of a large project. When I get overwhelmed, my brain feels a need to just abandoned the task at hand with any excuse.
As I began my list, frustration and fear began to build inside me. My impending divorce means I am losing so much: my health insurance and benefits, my financial support, my home, the rescue, security, and who I thought was my forever. My emotions must have been palpable because CHARLIE waddled right over to me and placed his sloppy smile on my knee. Without missing a beat, he said, "Stop. Just stop. Breathe in deeply and exhale. Pray. Then, make a list of your current blessings."
Baffled, I asked him what this was all about. CHARLIE piped up with, "You know that in this life, everyone serves one of two masters. Whether they believe it or not, whichever one you feed is the one who grows stronger in your life. Stop feeding the enemy. His desire is to get you so busy worrying about the future that you can't focus and enjoy the joys of right now. Take your thoughts captive and switch gears. Focus on the things that make you smile...like ME!"
Talk about a shift in my focus. Wow! So simple and yet soooooo spot on.
Happy Sunday, friends. I hope your week is joy filled and fabulous.

Doesn't CHARLIE make LONDON look small? He's definitely a hefty boy, but so is she. LONDON is a 5 year old female weighing 70 pounds. CHARLIE is a 3-4 year old male weighing 79.6 pounds. She is taller than he is, but CHARLIE is more round...lol.
Please remember that CHARLIE is not yet available for adoption. He is on medications for an injured front leg and then will need to be neutered once he finishes his medicines. We will keep you posted, for sure. Until then, just enjoy his massive smile and chunky self.
