PEPPA PIG Update.
Our 49-pound potato dog made another trip to the vet today. This time, because she stopped eating. The food in her bowl this morning is the same scoop of food I gave her Monday night. Last night, I went as far as chopping up a chicken nugget in her bowl. She wouldn't even eat that! Today, she got another shot of Cerenia, hoping it would settle her tummy. We shall see at dinner time.
In other news, because PEPPA PIG has had a few accidents in the house, she is now kenneled when I'm gone. I started this Monday, and she actually really likes her comfy kennel. I even let her have her favorite stuffed hedgehog toy in there with her since she's not a toy destroyer yet. This resulted in her now carrying that hedgehog around with her everywhere...including my bed at bedtime. I'm afraid she's acting as if it's her puppy. When she's walking around with the toy in her mouth, she whines. Once she settles on the couch, her crate, or the bed, she settles right down with her hedgehog tucked in next to her. Occasionally, she brings a few other toys to her comfy spot, but she's hyper fixated on the hedgehog. She may be trying to have a false surrogacy, and they may, in turn, be what's causing her tummy to be upset. It's possible, I'd guess.
The next couple of days, I'm going to work on removing the hedgehog from her presence and eventually gone all together. But I'll give her a bit to work through her "issues" first....lol.
This angel is the sweetest girl. Quite lazy and VERY needy when it comes to attention. She's so perfect.
She is not yet available for adoption, but should be after the holiday as long as she continues to heal.

EVERY dog deserves to try a Pup Cup!

Obviously, today's Glory Story is inspired by the ever fabulous PEPPA PIG.
We know the teenage girl that took over PEPPA'S care a few months back made a selfless decision to surrender this angel to rescue so she could have a better life. But we also know a good deal about this dogs life prior to that. I won't go into great detail, but suffice it to say she was neglected, bred, terrified, and nothing in her previous world was stable. She was exposed to things no dog should endure.
We learn a great deal about a dog when they first come into rescue. We can tell if a dogs been a "yard dog" or if they've lived indoors and secure. We can tell if a dog has been abused and neglected. And we know all too well how these things affect a dogs personality.
PEPPA PIG has been terrified of toys since her arrival. I don't know if she's never been allowed toys or if she's been attacked over toys. Today, she overcame her fear, and it took all I had not to squeal and scare her. Baby steps are still progress forward.
Part of what we do as a rescue is to teach "broken dogs" how to BE a dog. We love them into security and help build their confidence in themselves. Before you know it, they're "getting it." The joy those moments bring is indescribable for a rescuer.
Today, I thank God for the dogs and people in my own life who have helped me in my brokenness. Those who have been there when I didn't even know what I needed. True love truly heals. ❤️ No matter the species.
Happy Sunday, friends! I hope your week is filled with opportunities to both LOVE and BE LOVED.

Someone is feeling a whole lot better today. My granddaughter spent the night last night, and she and PEPPA PIG were fast friends. PEPPA'S new collar came in too, and she's mighty proud of it. I just can't get enough of this chunky love.
Thank you again to everyone who's helping give this dog a chance at an amazing life!

PEPPA PIG update.
Our sweet stray girl had surgery yesterday to remove her baby making parts. She's been through so much. While the surgery went perfectly and she handled the waking up okay, she's had a rough time since. Yesterday afternoon, she had to have a Cerenia injection because of vomiting. She moped along all evening with no appetite. This morning, she was in the same place on the couch where I left her last night. She didn't even want to get up to go to bed. She still didn't want to eat this morning, so I left a half measure of her breakfast out for her as I went to work. She was in the same place on the couch as when I left this morning. But her food was eaten and there was one small pile of vomit on the kitchen mat. So, now we will add a tummy med to her pill collection for the next couple days. She's getting a small, bland dinner tonight and will likely promptly go to bed. She still tail wags and wants all the lovin', but she's sedate and yucky feeling. She'll be a different dog by the end of the weekend, I'm sure.
Thank you for all your prayers and support. PEPPA PIG will be "right as rain" soon enough!

UPDATE on stray dog found in Tate parking lot last week.
This dogs microchip is registered to a person who is currently in jail on drug charges. Apparently, several months ago, the original owner gave the dog to someone else. Last night, this individual made contact with us. I have to say this before going on: She was the most mature, kind, and thoughtful 18 year old I've spoken to in a long time. After discussing the dogs medical issues and ongoing care, she agreed it would be better to allow this fur baby to be vetted and placed for adoption to a home that's financially stable. So, she signed over custody to the rescue. This young lady didn't make a decision because she didn't care about the dog. In fact, it is BECAUSE she loves this dog that she made the decision to sacrifice her own heart. THAT is true love. There aren't many teenagers these days that grasp that concept. This young lady is exceptional, to be sure.
Now it's time to get this baby healthy. The steroids we added yesterday have made a huge difference in her healing. She finally stopped scratching at her ear and shaking her head constantly. She slept so soundly last night that her snores woke me up....lol. I'm so grateful she's feeling better.
Stay tuned for more updates. She is scheduled for surgery tomorrow. We're still about $300 short of covering all her meds, tests, and vetting. If anyone wishes to help, PLEASE feel free.
You can donate directly to the vet, Companion Animal Clinic at 850-968-0226

Someone had to go back to the vet today because of her ear infection. Despite multiple meds, her ear was still bothering her greatly. Now, we have added a short-term steroid to the mix to try and get her some relief.
If you don't know, this dog was found last week...by multiple people... and posted to social media. Eventually, she was picked up in the Tate parking lot and brought to Companion Animal Clinic. Phoenix Rising Rescue agreed to keep her safe while looking for an owner....which we've had zero luck. We HAD to start some medical care because this angel was suffering from infection and pain. She needed immediate help and meds. We're still trying to locate an owner, but the person her chip is registered to doesn't respond. We've said it before, but we'll reiterate now...this dog is being vetted on Wednesday if she's still with us. She's at high risk for pyometra and a host of other issues.
She doesn't have a name. We've just been calling her Fat Fat, or potato or stinkerbell or Little Momma for the time being.
Anyone wishing to help with her vetting is very welcome to do so.

This week's Glory Story is near and dear to my heart. I'm big on love and not a fan of hate.
I had occasion this week to run into an acquaintance I haven't seen in 20 years. We chit chatted and shared our current struggles with each other. We talked about church and where each other goes as well as how our kids have grown up. Inevitably, the conversation turned to the election. Wouldn't you know that she voted one way, and I voted another. We did give each other a brief quizzical look and an awkward smile, but then the conversation went right back to grandkids, jobs, pets, and days gone by. We talked for nearly an hour in a parking lot of all places. It was a joyful "blast from the past."
As I was driving home, it struck me how rare it is for people who don't agree on major life topics to get along. In recent years, I've experienced my own fair share of ridicules, judgement, and hate from people I love over topics we don't agree on. I think it's silly. Why is there a need for us to be at odds over differences of opinion when there's so much more to life? I don't want to perpetuate hate and ugliness. Why would anyone? There's already enough of that out there. We can't overcome the darkness of the world by adding to it.
Just sayin'...
I hope you have a fabulous week, my friends. Let's focus on showing love to others this coming week. Let's be a blessing and not a burden.

Another FOUND DOG.
This angel was found in the Tate High School Parking Lot. A good Samaritan family brought her to the vet clinic I work at. She does have a chip, but the woman it's registered to is either in jail or running from a warrant? I dunno. THEN, we heard that the dog was actually given to someone else a few months ago. We were even given a number to contact. We've sent 2 texts since this morning and have gotten no response. Animal Control stated they can't take her, and it would be 7-8 weeks before we could get a pick up. Their instructions were to release her back where she was found. Uhhhhh, no. That's a very busy area for traffic and teenage drivers.
So here's the deal.
I'd love to see this baby reunited with her family and maybe offer to help with her vetting, ear infection treatment, antibiotics, skin treatment, etc. If you know where this dog belongs, please contact us here on social media or at [email protected]
If no one comes forward, we don't have the luxury of waiting 7-8 weeks for animal control. So....we will continue to keep her safe throughout the weekend and early part of next week. After that "stray hold" is up, we will vet her, and she will be made available for adoption.
We've already had to spend a good deal of funds for this dog, so if anyone wants to help with vet bills, THANK YOU. I'll put the donation info below. Her infected ear is so bad that it's literally leaking blood, and she's close to having a hematoma from all the head shaking. She's also clawed the outside of her ear until it's bloody raw. AND she has arthritis, gum disease starting, and parasites. We HAD to start her on antibiotics and ear medications as well as medicated baths. She's also been given flea prevention and put on a sensitive skin diet. We had to do a bit of lab work and a Cytoppint injection as well. She was tearing herself up.
She's a sweet but fearful dog.
If you wish to contribute to her care, u can donate via our website at:

Or directly to her vet account at Companion Animal Clinic at:

Let's get this baby healthy and home one way or the other. Together, we can change the world... one dog at a time!

SEVERAL Members of the family attached to this dog had to be banned from the page. Normally, we allow people to speak their opinions as everyone is entitled to disagree. However, they became incredibly nasty and rude and we're even launching verbal attacks towards some of our supporters. It was juvenile and ugly, so we banned them. Many comments below will not make sense as the offending comments have been removed.
This sweet angel was returned to her owners last night. I'd love to say it was a beautiful reunion, but that's not the case.
After our post about the dog being found, we got a message from someone claiming to be the owner. We asked for proof of ownership...ie. vet records, family pics/videos with the dog, breeder papers, etc. This "owner" refused even after it was explained that we can't just give a dog to anyone who says they're the owner. In the past, people have tried some fishy business, and any rescue, shelter, or Humane Society requires the same before an animal can be released to an owner. It's really NOT such a big deal and makes absolute sense regarding an animals safety. Regardless, the lady continued to refuse and kept demanding I give her the dog. She then called the police like we stole her dog! We spoke to a VERY nice officer who got the straight story and then made her produce the proof... which was pictures and videos of the dog with the family. I am unsure why that was so hard. It could be that she was offended that I asked her why the dog was in the condition it was in and allowed to roam the streets freely. Neither question did she answer, BTW.
Once we have proof of ownership, we legally have to relinquish the dog to the owner. So I set up a time after work for them to come pick her up. One person came to the door, another adult was in the driveway, and another person outside their car. Were they expecting some sort of drama? The lady at the door asked where her dog was and proceeded to grab her up. The poor thing was terrified. She didn't say another word until I held up the dogs collar she was wearing when found. It was caked with grime and dirt and nearly black...though it was originally pink. I wasn't going to put it back on the sweet dog after bathing her and getting her all clean. The lady snatched the collar and headed to their car. All the people piled in, and they took off. No "thanks for keeping my dog safe" or "did she get hit by a car or have any injuries?". Nothing but attitude.
This is why rescues often won't take in found dogs that are likely someone's pet. The same dog will be wandering and running in traffic again in a few days. And we get tired of the drama "owners" create. It's sooooo heartbreaking when we have to give them back to a home we know neglects them or just has them for breeding. Uuuggghhhhh.
So anyway....rant over. This dog is "home".

FOUND this weekend running in traffic on Muskogee Rd. near the papermill. A good Samaritan stopped and was able to wrangle the dog from the road. She kept the dog safe in her garage and reached out for help. This stray is now at Phoenix Rising Rescue until the owner can be located.
The owner must provide proof of ownership as well as an explanation as to why this dog hasn't received proper veterinary care.

Whose ready for a Glory Story?
I know I surely am after another massively painful week. My precious mother passed away Monday, and then my best friend (and last fur baby) crossed the rainbow bridge on Friday. The hits just keep coming, and everyone is just waiting for me to lose my mind. Well, admittedly, I HAVE had many come aparts and tear filled nights. I HAVE cried and anguished so much these past 4 1/2 months that I've often made myself physically sick. I'm human just like the rest of you. And don't think for a minute that I haven't become a little punk sometimes during my prayer time with God. In fact, I've had a couple of downright hissy fits like a child. Don't even try to tell me you haven't been there, because we ALL have.
But I have a secret superpower that I cling to. It's called praise. And it's never let me down.
Sometimes, it's "praise & worship" and all that that term entails. I start a playlist and just allow the music to wash over me. Sometimes I dance and sometimes I sing at the top of my lungs. I've always been moved by music, and powerful lyrics can "speak to me." Sometimes, all I can do is hit my knees, let the tears flow, and give thanks for all that God has done and is doing.
Another way I praise is by keeping a gratitude journal. It's just a notebook, and each day, I write down at least 3 things I'm grateful for that day. Often, I'm moved to run, get my journal, and jot down a blessing that's just happened. The more I do this, the more I NOTICE blessings throughout the day.
If you're in a desert place like me, learn to praise. You have the same superpower. If you can learn to focus on goodness and being thankful, you'll find an oasis in your desert that will sustain you through this season of heartache.
I hope you have a fabulous week, friends. Thank you for all your love and encouragement. You rock!

Guys! We need your help. This sweet angel was rescued by a girl I work with and is now healthy and fully vetted. Her name is NIFTY. She's an energetic 1 1/2 year old lab mix at 37 pounds. Yes. She's full-grown! She is an absolute sweetheart and very food motivated. Great to cuddle with even though she snores, lol. She is very comfortable in her crate and knows some basic cues like sit, stay, lay down, and we are working on recall. Walks well on a leash. She'd do wonderfully in a home with other dogs her size where she can play to her heart's content! She has lived with small dogs but has a lot of playful energy and has the tendency to bowl them over. She has also lived with cats and is friendly with them. She plays wonderfully with other larger dogs, and she loves to swim and splash around in the pool or at the beach!
Don't miss your chance at making this wonderful pooch a part of your family.
And PLEASE help us spread the word about sweet NIFTY. She truly is an amazing, little love bug. ❤️
Please help us spread the word.

HELP!!! Kitty Babies dumped last night!

Four sweet, but terrified, kittens need homes after being abandoned last night. The grey and white tabby is a female and the other three are boys. We cannot keep these babies here as there's no one here at night and we don't really have the space. They're currently in a surgical kennel waiting for YOU to come adopt...lol.
We've tested them for feline diseases and given them flea pills. We will also give them their first vaccine later. PLEASE spread the word. If you're looking to adopt a kitty baby, contact Companion Animal Clinic on Hwy. 29 in Cantonment at 850-968-0226 or come by and meet them.
There is no adoption fee, but you must have the ability to care for a kitten/cat long term. Also, if you wish, Companion Animal Clinic is offering a reduced kitten package that includes their next vaccines, one month of flea prevention AND spay/neuter. Call or stop by for details.

If you've had a week like me, you NEED a Glory Story right about now. Man! Has it been a doozy. My Mom's been moved to hospice care. I'm still looking for a rental home in the Cantonment area. My sweet fur baby is having an incredibly hard time and is nearing the end. My daughters baby shower is next weekend, and I've got to get everything for the caramel apple bar. My home is on the market, and every time there's a showing or open house, I have to load up my dog and leave for a while. It's been soooooooo emotional and hectic. Friday, I finally just fell apart on my lunch break and had a good cry. (Paige, thank you for the shoulder.)
Shortly after my come apart, I was wasting time on my phone. Facebook reminded me that 2 years ago this week, I was in my "happy place," Africa. Pictures and videos have been popping up and stirring up all the feels in my spirit. It's like a wave of joy and gratefulness continually washing over me. It's JUST what I needed.
I know I've said this before, but what we focus our minds on becomes what dictates our state of mind. You see, I was focusing on all the sad and painful things going on in my life. As horrible as they are, I have ZERO control over their duration or outcome. Yet, I was fixated and anguished. But when the Facebook Memories began popping up, my focus was shifted. My mind was filled with gladness as I scrolled and walked down memory lane. My spirit was lifted, and my balance returned. It was so simple, yet profound.
Years ago, my current situations would have spun me out and sent me down a path of self-destruction. Thank God for leading me and reminding me that sometimes I just need to shift my focus to all the things that are good, lovely, true, and wonderful.
Happy Sunday, friends. I hope this coming week is amazing and that each of us maintains our focus on life's blessings.
